Chapter 91
Chapter 91: You Can Get a Rabies Shot Anytime Within a Day, Right?
2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander
“Seniors, what do you mean by ‘Failed Product’?”
Ash couldn't help but interject, and his words drew the gazes of everyone in the elevator.
An employee wearing an "R" turned his head, his expression quite hostile. He asked:
“You look new, kid. You're not with our Rainbow Group, are you?”
“Oh, oh, I'm an intern for the Rainbow Group this year. Just reported for duty today.”
Ash's eyes darted around as he replied smoothly.
In this World, 10 years old was already considered an adult, so becoming an intern at 10 shouldn't be a problem.
However, this explanation clearly didn't satisfy them. The elevator reached the sixth floor, and a few more employees with the Rainbow "R" insignia stepped in, making the already small elevator feel crowded.
The ill-tempered employee exchanged glances with the newcomers, forming an encircling posture. All eyes were now focused on Ash, and it looked like a group beatdown was about to erupt in the elevator.
The sense of pressure was immense.
“It's fine. Trust me.”
But Ash suddenly flashed a confident smile. He beckoned to the first ill-tempered employee, who, for some reason, subconsciously leaned his head closer, turning his ear to listen.
“Long live Team Rocket.”
Hearing Ash's confident words, the ill-tempered member shuddered violently, his gaze a mixture of shock and suspicion.
Seeing that this wasn't enough to convince him, Ash delivered another heavy blow, leaning in to whisper again:
“Smelly fish, smelly fish, I'm a rotten shrimp.”
“!”
The man's expression changed in an instant. This Password had only been issued less than a month ago; only internal members of Team Rocket could possibly know it. An outsider would have no way of finding out.
His way of looking at Ash changed subtly.
To join Team Rocket at this age, one had to be either a genius with extraordinary Aptitude or have connections.
Looking at Ash's naive, greenhorn appearance, he basically locked onto the "connections" theory. Could he be the illegitimate son of some Core Executive?
The man's gaze immediately became fawning.
After all, in the Kanto Region, the 'Fire' faction definitely held a higher status than their 'Rainbow' faction.
“Hehe, since we're colleagues, I'll be frank. The ‘Failed Product’ is actually referring to that special Eevee.”
The man began to frankly reveal the information.
Eevee has many Evolutions, and in the distant Kalos Region, there's even a very special Fairy Type Evolution.
A fanatical scientist among Team Rocket's upper echelons took a fancy to the Fairy Type and developed a special evolutionary radio wave that could imbue irradiated Pokémon with the power of the Fairy Type.
“Fairy Type...?”
Ash instantly thought of his own Butterfree. It seemed it really wasn't a natural product.
“But the research on this radio wave seems to have failed in the end. No Experimental Subject gained the power of the Fairy Type. I heard that big shot has already left the Kanto Region and gone to the Johto Region to research a new evolutionary wave.”
It's said he's targeting the power of a Pokémon called 'Great Ferocious One'.
Just the name sounded terrifying.
The man continued to explain:
“And the only surviving Experimental Subject is that Eevee.”
Ash's body jolted. *Finally, we're getting to the point,* he thought.
“Although it didn't complete its Evolution, that Eevee unexpectedly gained the Ability to devolve after evolving.”
This Ability might look impressive, but it's really only useful for Pokémon like Eevee.
Pokémon are always better the stronger they are, so who would consider devolving? The exception is a Pokémon like Eevee, where each Evolution is a completely different individual, making this Ability useful for adapting to different situations.
“Of course, there's no such thing as a free lunch. That Eevee also lost its mind. It became extremely prone to violent outbursts and bites people at the slightest provocation. It won't stop unless you whip it hard a few times.”
Whipping it?
Ash's gaze instantly turned grave.
“Yeah, I went to see it once. The look in that Eevee's eyes was really annoying, like it was looking down on people,” another person interjected.
“Right, right, that's the look! For Farfetch'd's sake, for a Pokémon to dare look at us humans like that... I slapped it with a whip right then and there.”
“Haha, I went and whipped it a few times a couple of days ago. It felt pretty good.”
“Too bad. That Eevee's already been sent away. No more Sandbag for us.”
“Heehee, haha...”
The elevator was filled with cheerful air.
Ash: “...”
Listening to the laughter around him, his face turned livid.
He was a rookie trainer just starting out and had always tried not to assume the worst of others. In his heart, human nature was good.
Yet he never expected that human nature could be so cruel—to casually whip and bully a Pokémon just because of the look in its eyes.
And they could even chat about it as a source of amusement?
Misty, at his side, clearly noticed that Ash's current condition was very wrong. She had never seen him with such an expression before. She quickly grabbed his hand, signaling him to calm down.
Just then, the elevator reached the first floor, and she quickly pulled Ash out.
“Don't be reckless.”
Misty continuously tried to soothe the livid Ash, pulling him toward the Pokémon Center.
Pokémon Center lobby.
Having calmed down slightly, Ash tossed the Poké Ball. A flash of red light revealed a small, beast-like Pokémon. Its body was covered in brown fur, with a fluffy yellow mane encircling its neck.
But its fur, which should have been soft and beautiful, was now dull and lackluster.
Appearing in a new environment, Eevee first glanced around before its brown pupils fixed on the human in front of it. It let out a threatening hiss, baring its teeth ferociously.
What should have been a cute Pokémon looked extremely irritable.
“So this is the look they were talking about?” Ash murmured.
It was a gaze hostile to everything, even more intense than Gengar's had been initially. It even carried a disdainful contempt, an abhorrence that reached the very soul.
Is it disgusted by humans?
“It's all in the past now, Eevee...”
Ash forced a smile and walked over slowly with open arms, trying to soothe Eevee.
But the latter reacted like a frightened bird. Its hackles rose, and its eyes became fierce. As Ash got closer, its pupils instantly turned a violent, blood-red, and it bit down hard on the back of Ash's hand.
“Eievui!”
It bit down with great force, tearing a bloody gash in Ash's hand. Drops of fresh blood fell to the floor.
“Pika!”
Pikachu was instantly enraged. Electric current sparked from its cheeks as it prepared to teach Eevee a lesson with a Thunderbolt.
“Pikachu!”
Ash shouted coldly, interrupting Pikachu's attack. He then waved a hand to signal Misty to stay back, letting Eevee continue to tear at his hand.
If it weren't for his kind of physique, a normal person would have already lost a hand.
He winced.
The sharp pain from his hand made Ash furrow his brow. He then reached out with his other hand, took a deep breath, and forced himself to calm down despite the intense pain. Once his hand stopped trembling, he began to slowly stroke Eevee's back.
“It's alright...”
He comforted it in a soft voice.
Upon closer inspection, he could see that the body hidden beneath Eevee's thick fur was covered in wounds from being whipped.
“Ei!”
Soon, Eevee's violence gradually subsided. The red faded from its eyes, replaced by a hint of confusion.
But its gaze toward Ash remained hostile. It forcefully broke free from his grasp, scurried away to hide in the dark corner under a table, and turned its back on them.
“Eevee...”
Ash slowly stood up, letting the blood from his palm drip onto the floor.
“Nurse Joy, quickly!”
Misty quickly called Nurse Joy over to perform a simple disinfection and apply a bandage, while Ash stood like a wooden doll, letting the two of them tend to his hand.
He had already made a decision in his heart.
Suddenly, he moved, tossing Eevee's Poké Ball to Misty.
“I'll leave Eevee in your care for now. I have something I need to take care of.”
His voice was so cold it sounded foreign to Misty, who could only stare blankly as she caught the Poké Ball.
“Is he being possessed by Senior Red again?”
Then she shook her head. She could still distinguish between Red's and Ash's Aura. It was still Ash.
“No, that wound needs stitches! And there might be something wrong with that Eevee's body. You need a rabies vaccine right now, or your life could be in danger later!”
Nurse Joy hurriedly tried to stop him.
It was common sense to get a rabies vaccine after being bitten by a wild or unknown canine-like Pokémon.
Ash just silently tied the bandage on his hand into a dead knot, forcefully tightening it to stop the bleeding. Under the immense pressure, fresh blood burst out again, staining the white bandage red.
But the bleeding had been temporarily stopped.
“I can get a rabies shot anytime within a day, right?”
He asked nonchalantly.
Nurse Joy replied subconsciously:
“Yes, it has to be within 25 hours... wait, what are you planning—”
Ash cut her off, tugging his hat down slightly. An unprecedented Battle Intent ignited in his eyes.
“25 hours? That's enough. It's only the Rainbow Group.”
He slowly pushed open the doors of the Pokémon Center. Pikachu, understanding his intent, leaped onto his shoulder.
