Chapter 243

Chapter 1120: Hiker? More Like a Ruins Maniac!

"Hmph!"

Hearing the cold snort in his mind, Ash could only force a bitter smile, thinking to himself what terrible luck he had today.

No, that wasn't right. He should say he had just witnessed an incredible scene!

Ash, who had been in a great crisis just moments before, was now thoroughly intrigued, sizing up the two Kecleon from top to bottom.

It seemed that as long as he didn't break the rules, he wouldn't be subjected to their malicious attacks.

"Well, seeing them in the wild is actually another kind of luck," Winona said with a smile.

The Grass Dragon God didn't just appear in the Hoenn Region. Their figures could potentially appear anywhere on the entire planet, in any region.

Even stepping into their red cloth domain was fine. As long as you didn't take any items out of that area, you wouldn't be attacked by the Kecleon.

Seeing that the incident had come to a close and dusk was approaching, the group decided to return to Fortree City.

"Hey Ash, look at this..."

On the way, Sawyer suddenly came closer, shoving his Pokédex right in Ash's face, his expression one of terror.

"What is it..."

Ash instinctively took the Pokédex and took a closer look.

He saw two trending topics, news that had apparently just hit the charts a few minutes ago.

"Bizarre Incident: An uninhabited wild island in the Alola archipelago was, just minutes ago, crushed by an unknown power. The island, originally dozens of kilometers wide, was kneaded into an orb only a dozen or so meters in diameter. It is currently suspended in mid-air... Tourists are advised not to approach without authorization."

Below it was a picture. From a distance, it looked like a mud pill wrapped in blue light.

"Another bizarre incident: In an uninhabited mountain range in the Sinnoh Region, all traces were completely erased in an instant, with not even the slightest debris remaining..."

On the screen was a photograph of a gaping valley; everything above the surface had been wiped clean as if sliced off at the waist.

"Er, this couldn't be..."

Seeing this, Ash shuddered violently.

If he remembered correctly, Mewtwo had only used two moves earlier.

One move was intended to crush the Kecleon into a ball... and the other was intended to completely destroy them...

"Hmph!"

Hearing another cold snort in his mind, a chill ran down Ash's spine.

So the Kecleon hadn't blocked Mewtwo's attacks at all. Instead, they had completely transferred those two attacks to other places.

"Is this the power of the Grass Dragon God? It's truly incredible..." Ash marveled.

And Mewtwo, upon realizing its attacks weren't completely ineffective—that one move had crushed an entire island into a ball, and the second had obliterated a mountain range—was naturally satisfied that its divine power had been demonstrated, and it willingly stood down.

"So it really was a battle between gods."

His mouth dry, Ash could only grab Sawyer and hurry back to Fortree City.

Three days later.

Swellow's breeding task was complete.

When the great bird was returned to Ash's hands, it held its head high and its chest out, looking full of vigor and vitality. It had the same proud bearing as his Pidgeot from back in the day.

Getting a 'deluxe treatment' on a regular basis is, in a way, actually beneficial.

Ash and the other three continued on their way, heading towards Lilycove City.

After witnessing the many miracles surrounding Ash, Sawyer had already made up his mind to stick with the team. At the very least, he would follow them until the Ever Grande Conference was over! It would be a great way to see the world!

Route 120.

The terrain in this area was largely the same, with tall grass growing higher than a person everywhere. The ground was uneven, and almost every dozen meters, there would be a clear, low-lying lake.

One could say this was the most perfect wild Pokémon habitat in the Hoenn Region.

"No wonder it earned the favor of the Grass Dragon God..."

Ash nodded. The Grass Dragon Gods in other regions were extremely elusive; some people might go their whole lives without seeing one. Even Ash, who had traveled all over Kanto and the Johto Region, had never seen a Grass Dragon God's shadow. But they had certainly taken up residence here.

"They probably like to stay in places where people and nature coexist in harmony, right...?" Blue said with a smile, taking a deep breath of fresh air.

Just as the group was chatting idly, enjoying their leisurely journey...

*Whoosh!!*

At that moment, a dark shadow suddenly shot past over their heads. The air current swirled in its wake, causing the surrounding tall grass to sway back and forth.

Ash instinctively looked up and saw a brown flying dragon with wings that looked like banana leaves.

"A wild Tropius?!"

Ash's eyes lit up. He had a feeling that everyone in the Hoenn Region had a Tropius, which made him want to follow the trend and catch one for himself.

Without a second thought, Ash took off in the direction the Tropius was flying.

"Hey, Ash!"

"Didn't you say you wanted to enjoy the journey at a slow pace?!"

The others complained but still picked up their pace to follow Ash.

Before long, the four of them arrived at a rather hidden spot. It was surrounded by a dense jungle, and in the cleared area in the middle stood large mounds of varying sizes, formed by piled-up rock. The cluster of raised mounds was arranged here without any pattern, mostly spaced a dozen or so meters apart.

"Huh, I clearly saw that Tropius land here..." Ash said, scratching his head and looking around with curiosity.

However, Ash's group wasn't the only one here.

"Oh~ Four youths, are you also searching for the whereabouts of the ancient ruins~?"

In front of one of the large mounds stood a middle-aged man dressed as a Hiker. He was using a magnifying glass to examine the rock of the mound before him, though he didn't seem to be finding anything. Seeing Ash's group suddenly approach, he came over curiously.

"Ancient ruins?"

Ash and the others exchanged a glance, then looked at the raised rock mounds all around them.

These were ancient ruins?

They just looked like unremarkable gravel pits.

"Hehe~ This is the place where, according to legend, Registeel is sealed!" the Hiker said mysteriously.

Registeel. It also had a more common name: the Steel God Pillar!

"The Steel God Pillar is here?!"

Ash's eyes lit up. After all, he was currently carrying an Electric God Pillar and a Dragon God Pillar, so one could say he had an affinity with the God Pillars. Although the Dragon God Pillar was currently just an inanimate object...

When he saw their fervent gazes turn to him, the Hiker shrugged and gave an awkward smile.

"I only know that the Steel God Pillar must be here, but as for where exactly..."

This Hiker had been searching for the Steel God Pillar here since he was very young. Now that he was a middle-aged man, he still hadn't found a trace of it.

This had already become his obsession. So, even though he usually worked elsewhere, whenever he had free time, he would dive headfirst into this place to search and research.

You could call him a Hiker... but it would be more accurate to call him a Ruins Maniac.

(Oh, a bit of trivia regarding the Norse mythology mentioned earlier.)

(The story goes that Thor, the God of Thunder, once struck a giant's head three times with his hammer. The giant's defenses weren't even scratched, which made Thor so upset he became withdrawn. Later, he found out that his three hammer strikes had actually destroyed three mountain ranges, and only then did he leave, satisfied.)
