Chapter 1121: Brandon and Registeel!

"So, Registeel is hidden inside these rock piles?"
Their curiosity piqued, Ash and the others spread out, each examining the surrounding rock mounds.
"It really does have an ancient feel to it."
Ash mimicked Pikachu's actions, leaning in for a sniff. The scent of soil rushed to greet him.
However, it was also possible that years of rain had simply caused the rocks here to grow moldy and covered in moss.
"If it is Registeel..."
Ash tried knocking on one of the rocks.
Weren't the Regis usually sealed within large stone chambers?
But looking at the rock mounds here, even the largest was only about half the size of a training ground. It seemed a little lacking.
"Alright, Pikachu, use Iron Tail and in one go..."
"You can't destroy ancient ruins!"
However, the Ruins Maniac immediately interrupted Pikachu's action, causing the latter to spin a few times in mid-air before landing awkwardly on the ground.
"There must be a specific method to reveal Registeel in these ruins, not violent destruction!" the middle-aged Ruins Maniac said, his eyes burning with a fervent, reverent passion.
There must be hidden mechanisms on these rocks. A light tap, and a large door would appear.
"So where's the mechanism?" Sawyer asked, clutching his notes with curiosity.
He remembered that Ash had a Regieleki, and to think he would get to see Registeel so soon?!
This was a legend he had heard since he was a child in the Hoenn Region!
"Err..."
The question stumped the Ruins Maniac.
If he knew, he would have already seen Registeel by now!
"In any case, we can first rule out this pile of mounds!"
He tried to regain his composure, pointing to the cluster of mounds closest to them.
For so many years, he had thoroughly examined this central mound, trying every kind of puzzle-triggering method from pouring water to chanting sutras.
None of them worked.
"Is that so? For some reason, I think this is the most likely spot."
Ash patted the mound. Its position, like the moon surrounded by stars, was the most unique of the lot.
"I have researched here for twenty years. Trust my professional judgment!" the middle-aged Ruins Maniac declared, his face full of confidence.
*Whoosh!*
Just as everyone was still looking around, the sound of a rushing air current came from above once more. A colossal figure landed atop that very pile of mounds.
"Is that the Tropius?!"
Ash's eyes lit up. So that creature really was nearby...
But in the next moment, Ash's expression fell.
He could now see a figure standing on the Tropius's back.
"So it wasn't wild..."
Ash shook his head in disappointment. It seemed their previous angle of view had prevented them from seeing the person on its back.
As the person jumped to the ground, Ash realized it was an acquaintance.
He was dressed in dark green Hiker gear, with short, grayish-brown hair and an incredibly serious face. His eyes constantly conveyed a stern solemnity, and he had an aura that was imposing without being angry.
"I remember you! You're that weirdo from the Regirock incident..." Ash blurted out in surprise.
Back then, in a nameless desert north of Mauville City, Ash had been blown to the edge of the desert by accident.
He had then run right into this strange man, who captured Regirock with a flawless display of skill.
The man had even given his name back then. Was it Brandon?
"Oh, you're that Team Aqua Grunt from back then."
After landing, Brandon recalled his Tropius. His gaze swept over the group before landing on Ash, evidently recognizing him as well.
Looking Ash up and down and seeing his normal traveler's attire, Brandon finally gave a satisfied nod, though his face remained taut and humorless.
"Have you really left Team Aqua? That was the correct choice," he said in a deep voice.
"Wait a minute, I told you I'm not with Team Aqua!!" Ash quickly emphasized.
He had only been mistaken for a Team Aqua Grunt because he was wearing sun-protective clothing sponsored by them at the time.
"Ash, do you know this man?"
"He looks so fierce..."
Blue and the others had gathered by Ash's side, asking weakly.
Brandon's eyes remained fixed in a harsh glare, as if everyone around him owed him money.
"Oh, yeah. About the Regirock..."
Ash told the others about how Brandon had captured Regirock, explaining that he was an incredibly powerful Trainer.
Seeing that they all looked like normal, traveling young trainers, Brandon finally relaxed his guard slightly. It seemed they really weren't members of Team Aqua.
"So, Mr. Brandon, are you here to capture Registeel this time?" Ash couldn't help but ask.
"Yes. Once I capture Registeel, I will have finally collected all three of the Hoenn Region's Legendary Titans," Brandon replied sternly, his arms crossed.
His words sent a shock through the group.
Did that mean that besides Regirock, this guy had already captured Regice as well?!
Rounding up, that was like one person capturing their hometown's Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno all by himself!
They knew that compared to defeating a Legendary Pokémon, simply finding one was the most difficult step.
"So, are you all here to capture Registeel too?"
Brandon's eyes swept across everyone present.
"!"
His gaze gave them the same feeling as when they were children who had caused trouble and were being interrogated by their parents. They all subconsciously straightened their backs, not daring to be careless.
"We're just passing by to watch the show."
"Yeah, just passersby!"
Hearing this, Brandon nodded lightly, then turned his gaze to the middle-aged Ruins Maniac.
Through years of investigating clues in ancient texts, Brandon knew how to awaken the sealed Registeel.
But if others also wanted to capture it...
As a Battle Frontier Brain, he wouldn't stoop to cutting in line or competing for it.
But he wouldn't give away the information he had to a competitor for free, either.
At worst, he would just wait on the side.
"No, no, I don't plan to capture Registeel!" the middle-aged Ruins Maniac exclaimed, shaking his head so fast it resembled a pellet drum.
He wasn't a Trainer. Even if he wanted to capture it, he simply didn't have the strength to succeed.
But it had been his obsession for so many years.
"Please, I beg you, let me see Registeel with my own eyes! And then... and then let me take a photo with it as a memento!"
The Ruins Maniac bowed deeply and respectfully to Brandon, making his request.
Hearing their earlier dialogue, he figured this man before him was a true expert. Perhaps today, he would really get to see the legendary Registeel!
In the past, he had told everyone that Registeel was sealed here, but absolutely no one believed him.
Today, he might finally be able to shove it in their faces!
"In that case, I accept your request."
Brandon nodded, agreeing.
Immediately, everyone consciously stepped back a few meters, their eyes wide with curiosity as they waited to see what Brandon would do next.
