Chapter 787: That's Right

2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit

A scythe symbolizing the power of Death brutally struck a Mother Box. The Mother Box involuntarily erupted with ghastly white lightning, letting out a shrill, overwhelmed wail.

"I hate this color..."

Nekron's gaze flickered, somewhat unsettling.

White, no matter the time, was always a disgusting color.

And Nekron's mission was to eliminate all white! To drag this world back into endless darkness!

Tony was expressionless. He casually threw out two other Mother Boxes, sending them crashing toward Nekron. As they moved, the two Mother Boxes rapidly expanded, transforming into two massive cubes that pressed down fiercely.

Amidst flashes of lightning and thunder, terrifying white lightning gathered wildly. This X-Energy was furiously stimulated by Tony, forming a white ocean that faintly tore open the dense veil of darkness, roaring as it charged at Nekron.

[The enemy is too strong, I am overwhelmed...]

The Mother Box responsible for blocking Nekron emitted a clear cracking sound, as if something was beginning to fracture. Finally, for the first time, it conveyed a message of retreat and a plea for help to Tony.

This was the first time a Mother Box had actively communicated with Tony. In the past, no matter how forcefully Tony tried to enslave it, it had never responded, pretending to be a simple, unprogrammed device.

But in reality, the Mother Box was a superweapon that integrated a weapon, a computer, a "3D printer," and a world-shaping machine all in one. The tier of a single Mother Box was far higher than that of the Mobius Chair.

After all, it was a supreme artifact obtained only by gathering the power of Apokolips.

So it made no sense that the Mobius Chair could communicate with Tony, but the Mother Box couldn't.

[A single force cannot defeat the enemy, more combined effort is needed...]

The Mother Box sent intermittent messages to Tony.

Nekron seemed to have heard something. With a cold and expressionless face, he swung his scythe, hacking at Tony strike after strike, but he was blocked by Tony using the Mother Boxes every time.

Three Mother Boxes—one for defense, two for offense. White light shot out, divine power vibrated, the veil of darkness wavered, and lightning flickered. Powerful attacks, each capable of easily piercing a universe, erupted within this seemingly endless world of darkness.

The dead planet beneath them had been lying quietly in the darkness, silently watching everything. But the battle between Tony and Nekron caused clear cracks to appear on the planet, which were constantly spreading. Its destruction was only a matter of time.

This was an unconventional war of light and darkness.

Tony had been paying close attention to the battle. He wielded the three Mother Boxes with extreme skill. A constant stream of information and logical deductions flowed from the Mother Boxes, which Tony received, rapidly processed, and then used to issue new commands.

On a battlefield at Nekron's tier, the situation was often a complete stomp. Low-tier beings wouldn't even have a chance to resist. A single casual slash from Nekron's scythe could present an attack pattern that those below the single-entity level couldn't decipher even if they racked their brains.

Even someone as strong as Tony was largely relying on the powerful functions of the three Mother Boxes to barely hold on.

"If I had four Mother Boxes, I would have joined them together long ago."

Tony said lightly.

[You know you can't resist Nekron. What are you thinking?]

"Aren't you very smart? You've played dead in my hands for so many years. Why don't you take a guess at what I'm trying to do?"

[...]

The Mother Box ultimately fell silent again.

Half of their control had been seized by Tony. Without control commands from Apokolips, they were powerless to resist Tony's directives on their own and could only accept them silently.

Tony gave the three Mother Boxes a cold glance, the corner of his mouth twitching into a sneer.

The Mother Boxes had sentient programming; Tony had always known this.

Cyborg, a founding member of the Justice League and a hero whose body was mostly transformed into robotic parts by a Mother Box, was never born. This was because Tony, in his scheme against Ancient Doomsday back then, had collected Earth's Mother Box first.

Cyborg was someone who could communicate with the Mother Box. When Cyborg was in danger, the Mother Box would always guide him.

Therefore, regardless of whether the Mother Boxes spoke up or what they said, Tony wouldn't blindly trust them. He didn't need to. With the fifty percent control he possessed, he could perceive the internal dynamics of the Mother Boxes and monitor their every subtle action.

But it really was strange for the Mother Box to speak up at this critical moment...

"Is it fear?"

Tony raised an eyebrow and swiftly dodged Nekron's scythe as it slashed down through the veil of darkness. The dark gleam of the blade carried a heart-stopping coldness and finality. Even though Tony placed a Mother Box in front of him and retreated explosively, he was still grazed by the darkness, which tore away a large chunk of his flesh.

Bone was exposed. Tony touched his half-severed head and one of his shoulders. With a thought, the lost parts rapidly regenerated.

"This is why I hate beings like you. You things aren't that strong, but every one of you is a menace and so hard to kill... Let me guess, you've placed clones in many places, haven't you?"

Nekron's expression was savage. He rested his scythe on his withered shoulder, freed his other giant hand, and brutally seized a Mother Box.

A continuous stream of white light surged from the Mother Box, fiercely bombarding Nekron and forcefully shaking him.

"This thing... I've seen one before. The origin power inside is very similar to a certain guy's."

Nekron slowly tightened his grip on the Mother Box. A piercing hum rang out continuously. The other two Mother Boxes began to ram him from the sides. Amidst the deafening boom, Nekron's body finally shuddered, just a fraction.

Tony watched with cold detachment. He glanced at Nekron, then focused more intently on his own regenerating wound. Tony could clearly perceive a dark aura clinging to him like a maggot on a bone, constantly destroying his life force and hindering his self-healing.

"Death... is very different from the entity Death." Tony mused.

He had come into contact with Death, one of the Five Great Gods, many times. As the ultimate destination for the living, she naturally possessed a supreme, multiversal status—this had nothing to do with combat power, but rather with her position and the authority granted to her in the multiverse.

But this Nekron before him...

The feeling Tony got was that Nekron *was* the rules and authority themselves. That's why Nekron could arbitrarily modify and distort certain things that even Death could not easily touch.

Just this one slash on Tony gave him the feeling that the entire world was rejecting him. If it had been anyone else, they would have been sent into the darkness with a single blow. Fortunately, Tony was a one-of-a-kind god; he could withstand it and even counter it, bit by bit.

Tony suddenly raised his head, his eyes flashing.

"If that's the case, then I mostly understand. My guess wasn't wrong! As long as I continue..."

Tony's eyes shone with a frightening light.
