Chapter 683: Jean, Omega
An all-out collision has erupted, with large numbers of warriors falling every day, but even more new warriors join the battlefield.
The Kryptonian Legion is extremely active on the battlefield; each of them a Superman, their combat power off the charts, and their organized units sweep across the Galaxy.
The Mutant Legion, however, follows the main force, making steady progress under the leadership of several Omega Level Mutants.
"We clearly have better options," Pyro John complained. "Give me a few lighters, and I can burn tens of thousands of bugs to death."
"It's useless. You need some time to burn them to death, but that's enough time for these things to pounce on you."
Iceman Bobby clapped a hand on John's head, then swiftly snatched a bug flying past. With an open palm, large swathes of bugs in the air turned into ice.
Bobby's performance was extremely outstanding; possessing unlimited ice manipulation, he was simply effortless on this battlefield.
Even more so than Jean Grey.
Jean's power comes from the Phoenix Fragment residing within her body, which is very difficult to control. So, when not in a power burst, she is indeed a bit weaker than the rapidly growing Bobby.
Bobby is already a Demigod, rapidly advancing towards a higher peak. For a true Omega Level Mutant like Iceman Bobby, as long as he is given time to grow, he could even freeze the entire Multiverse.
Unlike Jean, who has to carefully use her power, for fear of losing control and going berserk.
A sharp screech echoed in everyone's minds as a massive flaming Phoenix spread its wings, flying across the battlefield. Brilliant golden light spread, and countless glittering specks of light scattered; with a mere brush, they annihilated countless bugs.
But that was all. Jean dared not overuse the Phoenix Force, and Professor X and Magneto, who were by her side, were constantly observing her with worry.
"I'm fine, Professor," Jean's face was pale.
Cyclops shot a long Heat Vision forward, repelling a column of bugs. He tilted his head at the people around him, and dozens of Kryptonian Warriors quickly filled the gap left by their retreat.
"Jean," Logan said, his face full of worry, as he gently supported her.
Cyclops's face darkened, and he couldn't help but want to shoot a red beam at him.
"It's starting again... It's tempting me to kill again," Jean let out a muffled groan, her face devoid of color.
Professor X's expression was serious: "You can overcome it, Jean. It is a part of you, but you have never been it. You can defeat it."
As they ventured into interstellar space, the Iacon Hall of Records had been frantically collecting all sorts of knowledge. Alpha Trion, as its curator, had been very competent, and Professor X and others also had the good fortune to examine some extremely secret cosmic knowledge.
Among them were descriptions of the Phoenix Force.
He further understood that the one within Jean's body was merely a Phoenix fragment, and there were even larger, multiple fragments scattered throughout the Multiverse.
The terrifying nature of the Phoenix Force, just thinking about it sent shivers down one's spine. A mere fragment created Jean Grey; what if it were completely pieced together...?
At least it would be a Level Eight Being, perhaps even a Quasi-Ninth Level.
Jean finally suppressed it. These years of self-cultivation and discerning her true self on Cybertron allowed her to finally muster the courage to communicate with her other self. In the past, she would never have dared to do so, nor would she have had the ability.
"Once we defeat the Annihilation Bug Race, we will enter a long period of rest and recuperation to deal with even more difficult universe crises. We must use this time to solve your problem. The best outcome is for you to control the Phoenix; the worst outcome is simply to expel the Phoenix Fragment."
As Magneto spoke, he was also remotely controlling the earth's magnetic field, clearing large areas, and had to contend with the super-powered bugs within the Insect Swarm.
"Tony can do it, but he hasn't expressed any interest in the Phoenix Force... I need to have a good talk with him," Professor X said.
Magneto scoffed, "Tony only uses controlled power. The Phoenix within Jean has already developed its own consciousness; there's no way Tony would be interested in that."
Jean clutched her head, the conversation of the others filling her ears. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and her steps faltered; she almost fainted.
For this great war, Jean and Iceman were deployed among the four Omega Level Mutants, while Wanda and Elizabeth remained behind on Cybertron, ready to respond to new crises at any time.
Frankly, Tony wasn't afraid of unleashing Jean Grey, because he was confident he could suppress a rampaging Jean. The power of a single Phoenix Fragment is limited.
But he was truly uneasy about Wanda. Chaos Magic was too terrifying. Tony had to personally stay by Wanda's side, constantly vigilant for a potential Wanda rampage. One must know that a berserk Wanda—that is, Wanda whose spirit and mind were controlled by the twisted evil power of Chaos Magic—could casually cast out a "Chaos Wave" and reboot the Multiverse.
Many of Tony's arrangements were not yet complete. He was traversing the Multiverse, and before he had raised his own strength to its limit, it would be truly unfair if the world were to be rebooted by his own woman like this.
As for Elizabeth, who was also Psylocke, this amply-endowed woman had only recently raised her potential from Quasi-Omega to Omega Level, so there was no need to deploy her in such a hurry.
With Tony's main body watching over them, everyone felt reassured.
Icebergs materialized out of thin air, and tens of thousands of bugs were frozen, permanently solidified. Even the distant space was frozen into a continuous ice bridge, making for a magnificent scene.
Whoosh!
A bug pounced down. Bobby slightly raised his foot, and an ice field materialized out of thin air. Bobby slid away along the ice path, casually freezing the bug that had attacked him to death.
Bobby was like a true artist. He lacked no strength, and the aesthetic beauty of his abilities was even more remarkable. Each realistic ice sculpture, precise to the atom and molecule level, was his work, and in each piece, large numbers of bug Wraiths were wailing.
The Kryptonians, including Supergirl, shuttled back and forth across the battlefield like invulnerable missiles. Their supersonic attack frequency caused massive casualties among the bugs.
Bang!
Supergirl pinned down a powerful bug that had consecutively killed over a dozen Kryptonians, punching it repeatedly, then tore off the bug's head, her entire body drenched in green slime.
Seemingly very naturally, Supergirl joined New Krypton, without the slightest sense of estrangement.
Moreover, she was now rightfully on the battlefield, and not as a mercenary, but as a member of the regular army...
A continuous stream of troops was sent to the battlefield, trying to make up for the numerical disadvantage. Transformers that had entered a mass-production state, with the entire Cybertron Galaxy and hundreds of planets within the entire Pocket Universe all transformed into armories. Large numbers of newly born warriors emerged from Incubation Chambers, directly stepping onto the battlefield.
A trial by fire, this was the cruelest selection method, but also the most effective method.
