Chapter 221: This Thing is an Emotional Entity?
2023-10-23 Author: Rowing Without Oars 233
On the surface of Mars, at the negotiation site between Orin Vale and Almeric.
At this moment, everyone remained stupefied. At first, it was because the arrival of the Emotional Entity Parallax sent a tremor through their souls, an instinctive fear that left them paralyzed.
But now, they were simply amazed by the sheer smoothness of this big shot's seamless combo, from arrival to escape.
Seriously, why are you so practiced at running away?
Even Cyborg Superman, who had summoned it, was stunned by the scene. He stood there, mouth agape, all his prepared lines stuck in his throat, his train of thought completely derailed.
Cyborg Superman began to have some slight doubts about the knowledge he had acquired during his travels through space. He had always believed that the so-called Entity of Fear should be an ultimate demon that fed on the fear of all living beings in the universe, spreading fear throughout the cosmos. But looking at it now, could the "Entity of Fear" actually refer to the most terrified creature in the universe?
A cowardly Emotional Entity, is that it?
While they were still frozen in a daze, an intense burst of light suddenly erupted in their midst. An electric arc kicked up a whirlwind as it flashed past the crowd. An azure radiance bloomed like a lotus flower, and the afterimage it carried rapidly expanded as it moved at high speed, its body instantly undergoing Gigantification to a size comparable to Parallax.
Before the radiance around him had even dissipated, Orin Vale had Parallax's tail in his grasp. His feet sank deep into the Martian surface as his wrist strength erupted. With a "lift" stance, he hoisted Parallax up by its tail, swung it over his head, and viciously smashed it onto the ground!
The massive impact caused the very ground to sink.
The area where Parallax landed quickly collapsed, creating a huge crater. The earth split and the mountains crumbled, sending dust and debris soaring. The distant volcanic range was activated by the shock, and lava began to overflow as fiery light shot into the sky.
With that slam, the Boom Tube in mid-air had already closed. It seemed its escape plan was now in tatters.
But an Emotional Entity was, after all, thick-skinned and tough; this fall didn't affect it much. It turned, its gaze locking onto the Giant of Light blocking its path, and let out a furious roar via telepathy.
The meaning seemed to be, "I gave you face by not bothering with you just now, don't you fucking push your luck!"
After all, although Blue Light was the natural counter to Yellow Light, Parallax was an Emotional Entity, not just an ordinary Yellow Lantern.
The reason it had fled at the first scent of Blue Light was firstly because it had been imprisoned for too long and was currently in a weakened state, and it didn't want to face a member of the Blue Lantern Corps in this condition.
Secondly, it figured it wasn't that close with Cyborg Superman anyway. Cyborg Superman had merely released it from an antimatter cage, and the two had made an agreement to help each other eliminate their respective enemies.
A mere life-saving favor, what was that worth? If its cheap ally died, so be it. What did that have to do with it, Parallax?
But this glowing guy actually wouldn't let it leave!
If it, Parallax, didn't show its might, people would really start treating it like a bug, wouldn't they?
Parallax was enraged, charging forward shrouded in a roiling smokescreen. Orin Vale, not to be outdone, immediately pushed off the ground, his body rocketing forward. He initiated with a frontal Boar Rush, meeting Parallax head-on with an Iron Mountain Lean.
The two behemoths collided at supersonic speed on the surface of Mars. A transparent shockwave instantly spread out, like the splash from a boulder falling into water, only a thousand times more ferocious as it rippled across the Martian surface.
The planet trembled as mountain peaks collapsed and plains fractured. A mountain range rapidly split open with the point of impact at its center, as if a massive bomb had detonated, blasting open a giant chasm to a bottomless abyss. All matter was sucked into it. The edges of the crater crumbled, and cracks spread like a spiderweb, making the surface seem like a fragile piece of glass, ready to shatter at a touch.
The Giant of Light and the monster at the very center of this collapsing domain, however, were almost the only things left completely unscathed.
A smoke-like substance wrapped around Parallax's body, and an eerie golden radiance seeped out from between the smoke. Those were the constructs of fear that formed Parallax's body, making it look like a large bug wreathed in a smokescreen.
Parallax shrieked, its insect-like legs swinging like scythes. It had a bizarre number of limbs, which stabbed out from the dense smokescreen in a continuous stream of golden light, like dense lightning flashes between dark clouds.
Orin Vale sidestepped the blades and closed in. He saw a pointed horn emerge from Parallax's head, from which a golden-yellow electric arc shot forth. Orin Vale leaned back, and the electric arc grazed his chest, striking sparks against his steel-like skin.
A blue electric current wrapped around his right palm. He struck back with a reverse hand-blade, and with a clang, he split the pointed horn in two. Parallax tilted its head back and grunted in pain as golden radiance spilled out like blood.
Orin Vale chuckled inwardly.
Who gave you the courage to fight a member of the Ultraman Race while sporting such weird horns?
Was it Gakuma or Goldras?
As Parallax grunted in pain, Orin Vale followed up with a heavy knee strike to its head and added an elbow strike to its side for good measure. Parallax took half a step back, only to be met with a solid front kick to its face.
It was an accelerated front kick, wreathed in lightning. The energy of the Light of Hope eroded Parallax's physical composition with every blow.
Parallax roared and shot into the sky. Its hundreds-of-meters-tall body created a transparent ripple on the ground as it blasted off, leaving behind a golden-yellow afterimage and trails of lightning as it flew into the night sky.
It turned around in mid-air, locked onto its target below, and began to gather golden light in its mouth, as if it were holding back a storm of lightning.
Physical forms of the light of fear were released as pure energy, like flames of fear!
Orin Vale gave chase, ascending into the air. His high-speed, flickering afterimages were so numerous they seemed to fill the sky. He weaved through countless orbs of light, accelerating as he advanced through the dense bullet rain.
A string of instant-cast cutting rays cleared a path, the light arrows exploding on Parallax's head. Orin Vale rapidly closed the distance, maneuvering laterally while trailing electric currents, carving a huge arc to flash to Parallax's flank.
Several tentacles suddenly shot out from Parallax's chaotic body, but Orin Vale still managed to evade them in an S-shaped path. An accelerated rear-hand straight punch struck Parallax's face, and the giant monster shrieked.
The two colossal figures fought as they ascended, engaging in a fierce battle that mixed melee with light rays. After a few exchanges of fists and feet, they would pull apart, followed by a barrage of opposing light beams. Then they would close in again for close-quarters combat, each clash accompanied by ripples of impact and explosive light effects that battered the planet's surface and shook its atmosphere.
Below, the group that was supposed to be the negotiating party, but had now been automatically relegated to the audience, was speechless.
Logically, they should join the fray and assist the big daddy they had summoned, using their numbers to their advantage.
But from the look of things, the situation didn't seem to permit that.
This was because it looked like a battle far beyond a level where they could interfere.
Orin Vale flipped one palm, and an Ultra Barrier converted from Blue Lantern energy neutralized and dissipated a round of Parallax's saturation bombardment. He then countered with an "Ultraman Dart Shot," firing it from under the cover of the barrier and the explosion. It blasted Parallax right in the head.
Parallax roared, and another volley of tentacles shot out. Orin Vale accelerated upward, dodging several supersonic tentacle lunges with side-to-side movements, all while a light wheel was already forming in his hand.
The Eight-Split Light Wheel left his hand, splitting into eight in mid-flight. With a series of sharp snaps, it severed all the flying tentacles. The severed golden-yellow tentacles, losing their energy source, dispersed into a smokescreen and specks of light, evaporating into thin air.
Orin Vale turned and dived, executing a Bombardment Flying Kick while trailing lightning. A concussive shockwave erupted ten thousand meters in the air, and Parallax was kicked downward with a dull thud. While still in mid-air, Orin Vale immediately followed up by flinging an Ultraman Ray. The light ray, enhanced with blue light, chased it down and exploded on Parallax's body.
The latter, covered in black smoke and light particles, had a massive chunk blown out of its constructed body and fell with a tragic wail.
As Parallax fell, its eyes looked ready to split with rage. It glared at the glowing giant in the sky with a mixture of shock and anger.
It was certain of one thing now.
This thing could absolutely not be just a simple Blue Lantern.
Even if it were a wielder of the Blue Light, how could it possess such heaven-defying strength?
Just what kind of ridiculous things had happened in the universe while it was imprisoned?
Could it be that this thing is the new Blue Lantern Emotional Entity???
