Chapter 189: tony, Where Are You From?
2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit
Mordo, the dark-skinned mage, led tony into Kamar-Taj.
The architectural style of Kamar-Taj was rustic and ancient, preserving the look of buildings from centuries ago, before the advent of the Industrial Age. Amidst a rich sense of history, it was imbued with a majestic grandeur—ancient, yet thriving.
Along the way, numerous Apprentice Mages could be seen everywhere practicing their spells. As they waved their hands, a multitude of sparks clashed and formed. From time to time, people could be seen coming and going using spatial spells.
Mordo led tony on, occasionally turning back to give him a scrutinizing look. It wasn't one of dislike or disgust, but it was far from friendly or welcoming either.
It was a complex, unreadable scrutiny.
"Do you treat everyone who comes to Kamar-Taj this way? First, you leave them outside in the cold wind for over a month before finally letting them in?"
tony asked as he followed behind. His eyes were deeply drawn to the self-training mages, who, with the widely available ring-shaped magical artifacts in their hands, were attempting to cast the Portal Spell under the guidance of their mystic energy.
tony planned to probe the principles behind the Portal. He might just be able to develop the GroundBridge Technology suitable for Cybertron.
"In fact, it's only like this for you," Mordo said, raising his eyebrows. "Kamar-Taj was just attacked, and something was lost, so we're under lockdown. You were just unlucky enough to arrive at such a time."
tony remained noncommittal and silent. Was that all? A mere Kaecilius was enough to put Kamar-Taj on lockdown?
He didn't believe it for a second, but since the other party said so, he would listen. True or not, he would treat it as the truth.
In any case, he wasn't seeking the Sorcerer Supreme for answers to these questions.
The two continued forward, crossing numerous training grounds and passing many magical buildings of unknown function, until they arrived before a standalone, utterly ordinary building.
This building was too ordinary; one could even see where the paint was peeling from the doorposts, which were etched with the heavy marks of time.
Perhaps because Kamar-Taj was situated in a small Pocket Dimension similar to Earth, the temperature inside was quite pleasant, far from the cold of the Outside World, and free from the constantly howling gales.
The door was already open, as if its master had been waiting for their guest to arrive.
Mordo made a gesture for tony to enter and warned, "The Sorcerer Supreme is waiting for you inside. Reign in that untamable personality of yours. No disrespect towards the Sorcerer Supreme will be tolerated."
tony nodded slightly. Disrespect? Who would dare? Would they really not be beaten half to death by the Sorcerer Supreme? Only someone like Doctor Strange, who possessed an incredibly high affinity with a powerful Multiverse magical entity like the Vishanti Trinity, was so uniquely favored by the Sorcerer Supreme the moment he appeared.
When Doctor Strange first met the Sorcerer Supreme, his attitude was absolutely atrocious, a perfect example of the Gary Stu Archetype. It was only because the Sorcerer Supreme saw his potential; anyone else would have been taught a lesson long ago.
tony looked down at himself, casually brushed the dust from his clothes, and stepped forward, slowly entering the unremarkable little building.
Inside, the various decorations and furnishings were filled with a rich Eastern style. An incense burner sat in the center of the room, burning some unknown substance that gave off a peculiar scent, one that calmed a visitor's mind.
A bald woman in a White Robe stood peacefully with her back to tony, looking up at something. From behind, the Sorcerer Supreme's figure appeared incredibly frail, and she lacked any sort of aggressive or sharp aura. She gave the impression of a perfectly ordinary... nun?
The Sorcerer Supreme's eyes could cross countless Dimensions, break through the barriers that made innumerable beings despair, and observe all major changes of the past and future.
tony didn't doubt for a moment that from the second he set out for Kamar-Taj, the Sorcerer Supreme already knew the entire content of their impending conversation, and was well aware of every answer tony would give.
The Sorcerer Supreme who wielded the Time Stone was just that terrifying. Otherwise, she wouldn't have shaken countless Other Dimensions with her might, beating the World Tree Native Pantheon into submission.
Over the past thousand years, the corpses of Deities and other beings from other Dimensions, and even Other Universes, that the Sorcerer Supreme had killed could be piled up to form another Mount Everest from scratch.
tony had been curious about what the Sorcerer Supreme would look like. He originally thought she might resemble the comics version—an old Chinese man with the surname Yao. Now, it seemed, she was the movie version.
It was this utterly ordinary woman who had single-handedly slayed countless Supernatural Beings and guarded Earth's thousand years of peace.
But unfortunately, in this day and age, even the Sorcerer Supreme could feel powerless.
"tony, where are you from?" The Sorcerer Supreme asked, her back still to him, her gaze fixed on the ceiling, though no one could know what her eyes were observing.
"New York, Queens," tony answered without a second thought.
"Where are you from?"
The same question, in the same flat tone, yet it placed immense pressure on tony.
In that instant, tony wavered.
Where am I from? It's true I'm from New York. It's also true I'm from China—truer than gold.
But how could he answer? Was he supposed to say, *"I came from the Third Dimension to specifically visit you, a Second Dimension paper character..."*
He wondered if, on some unknown timeline, the version of him who gave that answer was slapped to death by the Sorcerer Supreme.
"I don't know. Perhaps the Multiverse. That's what I think," tony answered honestly.
Lying to the Sorcerer Supreme... did she really think the Time Stone was just for show? Did she really think the Sorcerer Supreme, who could see through countless timelines and the very essence of innumerable beings, was a fool?
The Time Stone controls time, a power more terrifying than the Speed Force Wall. To lie in the face of time is simply impossible.
Time remembers everything.
What is happening, what hasn't happened, and what happened long ago—all are firmly recorded by this domineering thing called time. And the Sorcerer Supreme, master of the Time Stone, has the ability to view these recorded moments.
Any one of the Infinity Stones possesses an absurdly high level of authority. A person who can perfectly control the Time Stone will, by extension, indirectly grasp the Authority over the rules of the Universe.
The Sorcerer Supreme finally turned around. Her White Robe was spotless, transcendent. Her seemingly ordinary and gentle face was like a window into the entire Universe, where countless stars orbited, countless galaxies spun, and countless histories flowed.
"You are very clever, tony, but sometimes, that's not a good thing. It will only bring you great disaster. Time tells me you are special. Likewise, the things you face will be far more terrifying than what others do."
