Chapter 154: The Wakandan War (7)
Tony's actions on the fierce battlefield enraged many to the point of spitting blood.
If one were to look down from high above, they would see that Tony, at the very rear and some distance from the main retreating force, had made a sharp ninety-degree turn, running off to the side without any hesitation.
More and more Transformers successively transformed into their vehicle modes, speeding across the African savanna.
Only Devastator, at the very back, remained in his battle form, dragging a crashed spaceship behind him as he ran, periodically turning back to bombard the enemy with the astonishing cannons on his body.
From time to time, Wakandan warriors could be seen being blown to bits by the super heavy cannons fired by Devastator, leaving a trail of carnage in his wake.
"That bastard, what the hell does he think he's doing? Disobeying a direct order! After the war, we're sending him to a military tribunal!"
In the headquarters, a high-ranking officer roared in anger.
More and more Wakandan spaceships flew out from the protective shield, howling as they charged toward the retreating main force. Their speed reached astonishing subsonic levels, and no one doubted that the pilots could easily break the sound barrier if they wished.
These aircraft, capable of taking off and landing at will and possessing astonishing maneuverability, were technologically several tiers ahead of the military.
The rear and undersides of these spaceships had neat rows of energy thrusters, from which blue flames could be seen spewing out.
General Ross watched the speed of the enemy aircraft and their increasing numbers, sighed deeply, and collapsed helplessly into his seat.
It was a loss. The enemy had already deployed over forty spaceships; crushing their main force would be no problem.
The ground began to tremble slightly. The more than fifty thousand retreating soldiers felt the sudden vibration with confusion.
The vibration was very rhythmic. Lowering their heads, they could hear a rumbling sound, like ten thousand horses stampeding at once, yet it sounded incomparably heavy.
From within Wakanda, countless rhinoceroses charged out!
A vast number of rhinoceroses clad in Vibranium armor charged out, urged on by the riders on their backs, pouncing ferociously!
A distance of less than ten kilometers seemed incredibly short at this moment, as if the Grim Reaper was only an arm's length away!
The many high-tech spaceships caught up with the more than fifty thousand soldiers in an instant and began a massacre from above.
Boom! Boom! Countless energy weapons fired down from the spaceships, slaughtering the soldiers who were already showing signs of breaking ranks.
The fighter jets from the four aircraft carrier battle groups had long since taken off, arriving belatedly inland to engage the Wakandan spaceships head-on. The military jets launched a massive number of tracking missiles, but they were all easily shot down by the enemy in advance.
Artificial intelligence. The artificial intelligence on the Wakandan spaceships could instantly lock onto these clumsy missiles, counter-attack, and destroy them prematurely.
The military's world-leading technology—its more accurate strikes, more precise targeting, and more ferocious explosive power and penetration—was utterly vulnerable before the well-prepared Wakandan army.
When artificial intelligence could be installed on every individual combat unit, the power they unleashed was terrifying.
This was a slaughter. The more than fifty thousand elite soldiers had virtually no power to resist the attacks from the Wakandan spaceships. Even though they fought back with heavy weapons, they ultimately only managed to shoot down a single aircraft.
The Wakandan pilots didn't know much about the weapons of the outside world, but once they figured out the war mode, everything naturally ceased to be a problem.
The loss ratio widened rapidly.
The military soldiers struggled one last time, concentrating their fire to shoot down three spaceships before their formation completely collapsed.
More Wakandan warriors charged forward on their rhinoceroses, closing the distance little by little.
The desperate soldiers raised their weapons and fired at the rhinoceroses, but to little effect; they were all clad in Vibranium armor.
The battlefield presented a terrifying and bizarre scene. Ignoring the technologically advanced spaceships in the sky and looking only at the ground war, it seemed as if the advanced side was being slaughtered by primitives.
Ross and the members of the headquarters retreated frantically, issuing orders to other combat units as they went.
...
Tony led his team into the nearest deep mountains and seized the opportunity to animate the crashed but lightly damaged spaceship. Countless particles of Allspark energy infiltrated it; the presence of Vibranium did create some resistance, but it would only take Tony a few short minutes to successfully complete the augmentation.
Tony probed, thoroughly understood, and studied the internal structure of the Vibranium spaceship bit by bit. In his mind, the spaceship's construction no longer held any secrets.
A transparent holographic projection formed in Tony's mind.
As his understanding deepened, Tony's activation speed gradually increased.
"So extravagant... no, wasteful is a better word... For a spaceship like this, you could sell just the outer hull for a sky-high price!"
Even Tony felt a pang of envy. The spaceship was practically built by crudely piling Vibranium together. Such a method of use would be enough to drive anyone who studied alloys insane.
In terms of malleability and defensive strength, Tony could use the materials from this one spaceship to create a metal alloy several times its volume, and that's without any decrease in quality.
This was the magic of Vibranium, and the reason it was far more sought after than Adamantium. Its applications were simply too broad; its jack-of-all-trades versatility allowed it to be used in every industry imaginable.
The animation of the Vibranium spaceship was complete, and it promptly stood up.
At that moment, Tony received the visual feed from a small transformer he had left behind on the savanna.
"Wakanda's main force has caught up to the military's main army. It's time for me to make my move... I'll use this chance to save half the soldiers, become a superhero, and... kill Ross!"
Kill Ross!
That was Tony's ultimate goal!
"Ross, you see yourself as some great man, high and mighty. Too bad for you, I'm going to drag you, an arrogant and hypocritical man, down from your pedestal and strangle you with my own hands."
Tony narrowed his eyes and leaped onto Optimus Prime. The numerous vehicles started moving with him. The Vibranium spaceship quietly took off from another direction, roaring as it charged toward the battlefield.
The artificial intelligence inside the spaceship was immediately cut off and shut down by Tony, as he wasn't sure if Wakanda had a central AI hub that could control the spaceship's status.
Even as an empty shell, it was enough. Its energy weapons were fully functional and had already been analyzed by Tony; unleashing its maximum combat power would be no problem at all.
The current Tony had sufficient ability to remotely control a Transformer.
"Lieutenant, are we returning to the battlefield?" asked a soldier Tony had rescued. Dozens of other soldiers also looked at him, their gazes filled with admiration and excitement.
"Yes, we're going to retaliate. We can only strike from their army's weak rear," Tony said with a smile. "My legion will lead the assault. You just need to stay back a bit and fire while protecting yourselves."
Although the soldiers were terrified, looking at these vehicles gave them an inexplicable sense of security. They gradually began to cheer, bolstering their own courage.
Tony's war party quickly set off again, accelerating along a path slightly askew from their original route. From his retreat to his return to the battlefield, less than ten minutes had passed.
This time, Tony was going back to kill.
