Tony leaped down from Optimus Prime. Under his control, the three vehicle formations rapidly transformed. One after another, Transformers took shape, fully armed. A vast number of weapons assembled in their hands as they stared menacingly at the Wakandan forces opposite them, their gazes fixed particularly on the spaceships in the air.
In an era where kinetic weapons are still the mainstream, every Wakandan warrior is already equipped with an energy weapon. Tanks, the kind of land fortresses that ordinary kinetic weapons are helpless against, can be blown up by even their weakest energy weapon.
"I just don't know what Wakanda's war potential truly is. Their population and industrial system are also unknown, making it difficult to judge the nation's overall strength from a direct confrontation."
A Transformer, serving as cannon fodder, extended its arm and formed a metal shield, brazenly blocking an energy cannon blast fired from a spaceship. The moment the shield was struck, the energy cannon detonated violently, the blast spreading out like ripples on water. It expanded evenly in all directions from the point of impact, each wave of expansion looking as if it had been precisely measured.
The destructive power of the energy cannons was astonishing. Built upon sonic and pulse weapons developed from Vibranium, they posed an immense threat even to the massive Transformers.
"All soldiers, retreat behind me immediately! Look for a chance to counterattack! Wait for the main force to arrive!"
Tony roared, and numerous Transformers charged forward, assembling shield after shield to protect the soldiers behind them.
Tony stretched out his hand and made a grasping motion at the air. Another spaceship began to wobble, then fell powerlessly to the ground. It was immediately engulfed in the Transformers' gunfire and battered into a semi-crippled state.
More spaceships flew out from behind the protective shield, and more Wakandan warriors arrived on the battlefield. A large number of what looked like somewhat comical spears appeared, launching an attack against Tony's Transformer forces.
Initially, Tony had thought these natives would be foolish enough to charge into close-quarters combat, and he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.
Energy cannon blasts slammed into the Transformers. A dozen of the cannon fodder units fell instantly, their bodies shattered by the powerful weapons, left to struggle on the ground.
Tony simply abandoned these Transformers.
The only ones with any real resistance were the twenty Transformers equipped with Type I Metal. Optimus Prime took the lead. With two cannon barrels extending from his arms and another two from his back, for a total of four energy cannon muzzles, the Allspark Energy in his core module began to rapidly circulate. It roared as he fired upon the Wakandan warriors.
The energy barriers of a few Wakandan warriors were shattered, and those behind them began to sustain casualties.
The other surviving soldiers also seized the opportunity to open fire, killing dozens of Wakandan warriors on the spot.
"Everyone, retreat immediately!"
With his probing complete and having gained a general understanding of the combat loss ratio and the power of Wakanda's energy weapons, Tony shamelessly yelled and turned to flee.
He was here to gather intelligence, not to fight to the death on the front lines. Trying to animate a spaceship was proving difficult; the best course of action was to wait for the main force.
He hadn't forgotten his ultimate goal.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The Military was thoroughly enraged. The carrier battle group patrolling the coast began to unleash its might. Countless missiles locked onto the Wakandan warriors and launched one after another in an overwhelming tide.
This saturation strike directly expended the entire missile payload of a battle group. Immediately afterward, the fighter jets on the carrier also scrambled to take off.
Although it had only been a brief engagement, the battle was proving more troublesome than the Military had imagined.
A single probing skirmish had resulted in the loss of several hundred soldiers and dozens of tanks and armored vehicles. This was one of the Military's greater losses in years.
W'Kabi seemed to have received a message and began shouting loudly. All the Wakandan warriors quickly turned back, with the rearmost rank maintaining their barriers to guard against bullets.
The protective shield that enveloped the Kingdom of Wakanda began to reveal its physical form, deactivating its camouflage and starting to move in a way visible to the naked eye.
Within the protective shield, countless high-tech skyscrapers and bizarrely styled, thousand-meter-tall buildings were completely exposed to the Military's eyes. Even the damn satellites had a clear view, leaving the military personnel back home utterly stunned.
Inside the protective shield, a large number of similarly styled spaceships took off vertically, completely unlike the Military's fighter jets, which required long runways to accelerate. These super weapons rose into the sky one after another, ready to strike at a moment's notice.
The missiles reached the battlefield. The expanding protective shield enveloped the Wakandan warriors, blocking every single missile. They slammed headfirst into the shield, setting off violent explosions whose sound carried far across the vast grasslands. The astonishing flames and fragments were easily kept at bay by Wakanda's protective shield, a sight that made jaws drop everywhere.
Tony bolted, running for his life. Around him, over forty Transformers were also running at full tilt, their heavy metal bodies making dull thuds with every step on the ground.
As he ran, Tony glanced back. A Little Transformer on his shoulder was recording everything behind them. He would carefully analyze this combat data later.
"Tsk, tsk. As expected of Wakanda. It's a pity I couldn't snatch a spaceship... This country is actually extravagant enough to dilute Vibranium, wastefully mixing it with other junk metals to build their spaceships. While that lowers the manufacturing difficulty, it also prevents Vibranium's defensive capabilities from being maximized."
Just a moment ago, Tony had used the Allspark to bring down two spaceships. Allspark particles had poured into the vessels, and in that single moment of contact, he had figured out their metallic composition.
He could animate them, but it would take some time. Even just a few minutes was an impossible luxury on this battlefield.
The Wakandans weren't fools; they wouldn't just stand by and watch Tony study their spaceships in the middle of a battle.
"If I were Wakanda, I'd definitely equip my most elite spaceships with protective shield technology. Even their most common warrior has access to shield tech, so it makes no sense that their more expensive spaceships don't have it. Unless..."
As he thought about it, a bitter smile touched Tony's lips. So damn extravagant. They spent money like it was nothing.
Unless these Wakandans, with their bizarre mentality toward warfare, simply couldn't be bothered to equip their spaceships with protective shields. They believed a single person was far more valuable than a spaceship.
Vibranium and its associated metals were everywhere in Wakanda, running thousands of meters deep into the earth. But the Wakandan people weren't a resource they could produce on demand.
Tony picked up his pace, fleeing even faster.
There was no reason for him to charge in and fight to the death against a nation with such a strange mindset. This was the Military's mission.
If the Military's losses weren't significant, where would his opportunity come from?
"Retreat! Have all troops retreat!" Ross growled through clenched teeth, forcing the words out one by one.
"Who will cover the rear?"
Ross shot the questioner a cold glance. "Isn't Tony at the very back right now? Order him to cover the rear. His war machines are more than enough to buy time for the main force."
