Chapter 121

Chapter 121: Whose Soldier Are You?

October 19, 2022. Author: Great Demon Spirit

Tony was the first to depart, deliberately avoiding the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who came looking for him. No other reason than they were too annoying.

An organization like S.H.I.E.L.D. was a chaotic mix of good and bad, making them the worst kind of partners. Would Tony really hand over his Dionysium Factor technology to them, or keep the technology himself to help them create Undying Soldiers?

What a joke. Not to mention transferring the technology, he wasn't even willing to create soldiers for S.H.I.E.L.D. He'd rather spend that effort making more metal bodies for himself and building up the Transformers Corporation.

Moreover, if S.H.I.E.L.D. gained control of Undying Soldiers, they would likely cause trouble for Superhumans like Tony. That would be digging his own grave.

It was best to keep the Dionysium Factor technology firmly in his own hands. As for the Court of Owls...

Tony had a new plan in mind, but there was no rush. Even for the sake of the Fountain of Resurrection, he would have to make a move against the Court of Owls sooner or later. Eradicating them completely wasn't realistic, as some might slip through and leak information, but gaining complete control over them was a more suitable approach.

Queens, New York City, was currently licking its wounds after a period of chaos.

People moved through the streets, and a large number of buildings were damaged. Not to mention vehicles, even on the sturdy walls, bullet holes and astonishing claw marks were visible from time to time. Many citizens still wore the panic of surviving a catastrophe, their disheveled clothes and bird's nest hair clearly telling others that trouble had occurred here.

One could even see many corpses lying on the ground.

Tony pulled open the car door. The scene of chaos felt eerily familiar. It was also like that day, when Hulk and Abomination clashed in New York, the scene was one of utter pandemonium. However, this time the chaos was more widespread, though its sheer destructive power was far less than that previous incident.

Tony had already learned the details shortly after leaving Gotham City. The media, always eager to stir up trouble, enthusiastically reported on the second major disaster in recent memory.

What was infuriating was that this incident was, again, man-made. The Military was once again dragged out to take the blame, becoming another ironclad proof of their utter incompetence and wastefulness.

"Lizard… Tsk tsk tsk, Oscorp is truly finished this time. They won't be able to whitewash themselves even if they tried." Tony watched the chaotic scene with amusement, casually kicking away a falling billboard.

This crisis was resolved by New York's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, who, upon seeing injustice, drew his blade and defeated the Source of Evil – Lizard – with righteous might. By now, Queens, New York, had gradually emerged from its initial chaos. A spray solution covering the entire city had transformed most Lizard-men back into humans, leaving only scattered Lizard-men clinging to life in dark, enclosed corners.

The omnipotent media successfully dug up all relevant information and widely broadcasted it across various channels.

A broken-armed doctor from a prestigious university wanted to extract a small gene fragment from a lizard and graft it onto a human to gain the lizard's regenerative ability. The famous genius student, Peter Parker, also participated in this experiment and provided the most crucial chemical equation.

Driven by greed, Oscorp forced the doctor to conduct human experiments. The doctor, being a good man, couldn't bear to see disabled soldiers become test subjects, so he injected a Serum into himself first.

Then tragedy struck. Although his severed arm regenerated, the Rage Serum fostered a chaotic personality and simultaneously transformed him into a humanoid lizard monster. This genius monster then mass-produced the Serum, intending to turn everyone in New York into "evolved beings" like himself.

The story's protagonist, Spider-Man, after enduring countless hardships, finally defeated the villainous enemy and saved the entire city... A classic underdog protagonist template.

Even the Daily Bugle, which had been badmouthing him for thirty years, was stammering this time, uncharacteristically refraining from criticizing Spider-Man.

"What an impressive Spider-Man, becoming popular again… Huh, why did I say 'again'?"

In the shadows, Lizard-men henchmen, transformed by the gene Serum, lurked, eyeing the stranger on the road. As Tony approached them, accompanied by a roar, these genetically twisted creatures lunged out like mad.

"Humans? Humans? Kill you, eat you!" Several confused monsters mumbled incoherently, screaming and charging towards what they perceived as food.

Only Lizard retained a relatively clear mind and could even produce medicine from his Lizard body. The other Lizard-men were all violent, low-intelligence idiots, with instinct overriding reason, almost reduced to lowly beasts.

Tony grabbed one Lizard-man by the neck, and with a snap, easily twisted it off. He looked relaxed, with no intention of capturing them alive, even if they had been perfectly healthy humans a short while ago. Tony felt no psychological pressure killing them.

There were four Lizard-men in total. These confused creatures were extremely violent. When one was killed, the other three charged at Tony without the slightest fear.

Tony didn't use his armor. Instead, he used both hands, easily plunging one into each of their chests. With a forceful flick, both hands pulled out large amounts of their internal organs, splattering bloody chunks everywhere.

The last one tried to escape, but Tony caught its tail and dragged it along. He was curious about these failed genetically modified species and planned to drag it back for research, even if just to keep it as a specimen.

A team of fully armed soldiers patrolled the streets cautiously. They carried new stun weapons, capable of stunning these Lizard-men with a single hit, then capturing them alive and sending them back.

The leading Sergeant happened to witness Tony slaughtering the Lizard-men and was quite shaken.

It wasn't because of Tony's strength, but rather a sense of dissatisfaction—these remaining Lizard-men could still be reverted to humans. By using the antidote, their genes could be reversed, expelling the foreign Lizard genes.

"You, put your hands up!" the Sergeant barked sternly. "They are all humans, you shouldn't kill them, you should capture them alive! They also have families waiting for them to return!"

A dozen soldiers raised their weapons, cautiously watching Tony, who looked back in surprise. "Vigilantes with some skill, huh," they thought. "We've encountered such people before. This city-wide crisis has brought many hidden individuals out into the open."

According to colleagues, Hell's Kitchen was the liveliest, with a powerful Daredevil who could even face the Lizard-men head-on.

But what did that matter? These were Military orders! The Military had officially intervened in this incident! Who dared to oppose the Military?

"Military personnel?" Tony turned to look at them, pulling the remaining Lizard-man close to him, placing his other hand on its head as if petting a pet.

"That's right! Put down the person in your hands! The Military has issued a notice that these individuals all have a chance to revert, and should be captured alive!" the Sergeant stated righteously, looking at Tony's actions with some bewilderment. For some reason, his heart thumped wildly.

He knew a little secret: the captured Lizard-men weren't immediately injected with the restoration antidote.

The soldiers behind him were moved, feeling they were doing something just and great. They clamored, scolding Tony to immediately release the hostage in his hands.

Who dared to oppose the Military?

"Whose soldiers are you?" Tony asked. The Lizard-man in his hand struggled continuously. Tony kicked its leg, and it immediately quieted down.

The soldiers were furious, almost unable to resist opening fire. The Sergeant's heart pounded. He felt he had provoked something formidable. He slowly said, "It's General Ross's order. We are ordered to rescue these poor Lizard-men who were affected. I advise you to be sensible and not oppose our Military…"

*Pfft!* Tony crushed the Lizard-man's head. Red and white brain matter burst out, like shattered pieces of red tofu, and unknown brain fluids slowly trickled from the Lizard-man's strong body onto the ground.

"Did you say whose soldiers you are? Did I mishear?" Tony asked, looking a little surprised. He casually tossed the corpse aside. His ever-increasing power made the corpse almost like a humanoid boulder, smashing through a wall.

The corpse flattened against the wall, reduced to a pile of flesh.

The Sergeant's heart sank.
