Chapter 417: Event Ends and a Kiss
"The past few months have been the happiest time in millennia for me."
Circe lay on the soft bed. Everything in the room, including herself, was antique, except for one thing: a black briefcase that looked utterly ordinary.
But this briefcase was capable of controlling the lives of millions. Just pressing the button inside would unleash all of America's nuclear bombs, causing immense destruction to the world. (In reality, the nuclear button doesn't function like this; this is for plot purposes.)
However, this was exactly what Circe wanted. It was written in her agreement with Klarion the Witch Boy to cause chaos in the world. Although Circe was a witch of the God Era, she didn't dare to easily break her agreement with the Lord of Chaos. After all, he was a true god. No matter how crazy or arrogant Circe was, she couldn't ignore a god, at least not without preparation.
Estimating the time, Circe couldn't help but frown. Several minutes had passed since the time she had agreed upon with Klarion the Witch Boy. She had always hated waiting.
"Tap, tap, tap."
Her finger lightly tapped on the briefcase. Circe was getting impatient. It was clearly him who said they would enjoy the joy of victory together, but now even his shadow was nowhere to be seen.
'Could he be entangled by his allies?' Circe couldn't help but think. Early on in their cooperation, Circe had said that his human-supremacist friends would not allow him to cause such a big event.
But Klarion the Witch Boy didn't care. Rather, it was more like he simply looked down on his allies. The reason he joined them was just because he wanted to make the world more chaotic. After all, he was the God of Chaos, and he didn't care what the others in the organization wanted to do.
Thinking that the longer the delay, the more variables there would be, Circe decided not to wait for Klarion the Witch Boy anymore. If something unexpected happened and the plan failed, it would be bad if this Lord of Chaos blamed her. It would be better to press the button herself sooner rather than later.
Having figured this out, Circe no longer hesitated. Using magic, she opened the seven locks set on the briefcase. This box, capable of controlling tens of thousands of lives, slowly opened.
What came into view were several neatly arranged files: the number of nuclear bombs and their deployment locations, base lists, and several action plans. Circe only glanced at them roughly before losing interest, discarding them all. Then, she saw a separate switch. According to the manual attached to the side, this was a device to notify the masses for emergency evacuation. Circe was naturally not interested in it either and tossed it aside as well.
After clearing away the miscellaneous items, the true identity of the nuclear button was finally revealed. Circe first saw a number pad, and next to it was a red button covered by a transparent barrier. The barrier of the button also had a symbol representing nuclear weapons attached to it.
Looking at the number pad, Circe annoyedly tapped her face. Obviously, launching nuclear bombs required a password, but Circe didn't know the password. She hadn't expected this at first, otherwise, she would have kidnapped the President Old Timer together.
But this couldn't stump her. After thinking for a while, Circe came up with a method. There was nothing that magic couldn't solve.
With a gentle wave of her finger, the slender screen above the number pad began to scroll through numbers. The speed of the number scrolling was very fast, almost reaching the point where the flesh eye couldn't keep up.
Just like Constantine would use quantum magic to find answers on the network, Circe could also modify magic to use truth magic on electronic devices, letting the nuclear button itself tell her the answer.
Circe didn't have to wait long before a string of numbers fixed on the screen. Accompanied by a crisp beeping sound, it represented that the nuclear button had been unlocked.
Flipping open the transparent barrier, Circe gently pressed the launch button.
…
Cyborg's body was emitting red electric current, and he fell to the ground in pain. He was currently struggling to fight against the virus in his body, completely unable to attend to the missile silos opened across America.
"It's already… too late!" Cyborg looked in despair at the missile silos opening not far from him. Although he might survive this destruction strike, for other life on Earth, this was a cataclysmic disaster.
Not just humans, many animals might also become extinct because of this. Even gathering the power of the entire Justice League wouldn't be enough to stop all the nuclear bombs.
"Save as many people as possible." Batman's voice sounded in the communication channel. "The entire League is mobilized to send as many people as possible to the safe point I marked."
"Understood." Flash's lost voice came through, but a few seconds later, his voice sounded again, this time excitedly.
"Wait, Batman, I just passed through a white light, oh my God! The nuclear bomb next to me isn't moving! It stopped launching!"
After Flash, the voices of other heroes came one after another. They were undoubtedly reporting the same event to their partners: the missile silos they could observe were also the same, all stopped after a white light passed.
'White light?' Batman frowned tightly. Before he could figure out the reason, Flash sent another shocking message.
"Guys, the nuclear bombs aren't just stopped, they're also slowly returning to their original positions! Cyborg, is it you? Did you terminate the launch?"
"Not me." Cyborg struggled to climb up from the ground, the remaining half of his human face full of pain. "I just finished clearing the virus here, I don't know what happened either."
——Time rewinds a little——
Hearing the messages from her allies, Diana was full of anxiety. If she couldn't find Circe and stop the launch of the nuclear bombs, then everything would be too late. At this time, Diana couldn't help but think of one person—Yang Le.
Perhaps because Yang Le could always provide her with help, Diana always felt that the other party definitely had a method, as if grasping at a life-saving straw, she immediately wanted to contact Yang Le, but was stopped by a hand.
Diana suddenly turned her head and saw Yang Le, who had returned to his human form. Overjoyed, she was about to tell him everything, but was stopped by Yang Le.
Yang Le pointed to his communication device, indicating that he already knew all the information, and then said, "Leave it to me to solve."
After speaking, Yang Le once again pressed the Omnitrix. After a white light, the chubby and silly Clockwork once again appeared.
"Honestly, I haven't tried using ability on such a large scale before." Yang Le moved his limbs, his chubby figure made him look very comical.
"Bang!"
Yang Le suddenly took a horse stance, his metal feet sinking into the broken ground. The clockwork mechanism on his crown spun rapidly, just like a helicopter's propeller. Immediately afterward, a white light energy pillar shot up from his clockwork mechanism, directly towards the sky and into the sky, until even with Diana's vision, she couldn't see clearly. Then, the energy pillar began to thicken, eventually spreading out in all directions.
Looking at the light screen rushing towards her, Diana didn't dodge or avoid it. She believed that Yang Le wouldn't harm her. Sure enough, when the white light screen passed through her, Diana didn't notice anything unusual.
The white light screen spread at an extremely fast speed, eventually disappearing from Diana's vision. After a few more minutes, Diana learned from the communication that the nuclear bombs had stopped launching and returned to their original positions.
And Yang Le, the culprit of all this, was now slumped on the ground. Honestly, he should have released his ability within America. Using ability so far away from America on Paradise Island almost drained him dry. He felt like he had just finished a physical exam.
Before Yang Le could catch his breath, a black shadow pounced on him and knocked him to the ground. Yang Le steadied his heart before realizing that it was Diana. After pouncing on him, the latter was looking at him with tender, watery gaze, and then kissed Clockwork's mouth, located on the electronic screen, without any explanation.
After a long time, Diana finally raised her head, looked at the absent-minded Yang Le, and asked with a smile, "What are you thinking about?"
Yang Le came back to his senses and said, "So mechanical lifeforms can also get excited. I feel like the gears in my body are about to spin and smoke."
Diana heard this and looked at Clockwork's belly. Sure enough, just as Yang Le said, the gears in his belly had turned into a circle, which was enough to see how fast the gears were spinning.
Smiling charmingly, Diana grabbed Yang Le's hand and kissed him again. The first time was out of uncontrollable emotion, the second time was because Diana found that kissing a robot was also very fun, at least Yang Le's reaction was very fun.
Maybe she could let Yang Le transform into other appearances to try in the future, such as the appearance of an Amazonian.
The two who were hitting it off completely forgot about Troy, who was unable to move on the side.
The DC Universe mini-arc is finished, and tomorrow a new volume will be opened to go back to writing Marvel. I've wanted to write the Mutant Big Event for a long time.
