Chapter 41

Chapter 41: Karma Value—Surrounded!

Author: Amnesty L

Looking at the changes on his status panel, Tang Zheng felt that his efforts over the past few days had not been in vain; his "Sword Saint" class had reached its maximum level.

Next, he needed to level up the "Genius" class. Once it reached Level 10, he should meet the basic prerequisites.

"The experience requirement has reached 5,000. As my level increases, the amount of experience needed grows too." Tang Zheng swallowed the wild boar meat in his mouth.

However, there was nothing he could do about it.

Tang Zheng had always worried that at higher levels, there wouldn't be enough monsters for him to kill.

He shook his head.

This wasn't something he should be considering right now.

"My Karma Value has changed."

"Killing so many goblins actually resulted in a positive increase. So, is this 'Karma Value' calculated from my race's perspective?" Tang Zheng wondered, looking at the Karma Value on his attribute sheet.

The "Karma Value" was also a very important stat in the game "YGGDRASIL."

Not only did it affect matters of race, equipment, and classes, but it could also significantly amplify or weaken the effects of some skills.

For instance, the eighth-tier spell, "Moral Distortion," could twist an individual's high Karma Value to a negative one.

The tenth-tier spell "Divine Flame" dealt more damage the higher one's Karma Value was; when the value was negative, it became even less potent than a first-tier attack spell.

In Tang Zheng's opinion, having a Karma Value that was too high or too low was never a good thing. In "YGGDRASIL," there were quite a few skills and spells that targeted Karma Value.

Keeping his "Karma Value" low was a good choice.

If his class, race, or equipment had no specific requirements, it would be safest to keep his "Karma Value" stat at 0.

Gulp…

Tang Zheng took another gulp of water, his gaze falling on his iron sword, which was now covered in nicks.

It seemed this iron sword was ready to be scrapped. Fortunately, he had prepared ten of them beforehand, so he wouldn't be left without a weapon.

"Since intermediate classes provide better stats than low-tier ones... the attack power of a max-level 'Sword Saint' should surpass that of a level 15 adventurer from this world. Maybe not by much, but it should be around level 17, right?" Tang Zheng speculated.

Combined with the 'Fast Slash' skill and passive bonuses, his physical attack strength would be at 120%, which should boost his power by at least another level's worth.

Rustle!

Rustle!

Rustle, rustle—

Huh?

Tang Zheng expressionlessly raised his head, looking toward the commotion coming from the thicket ahead.

Thud!

The heavy thud of footsteps on fallen leaves echoed as a massive, sallow-yellow figure pushed aside the tall bushes and emerged.

"An ogre?"

"I knew it. There were too many goblins in this encampment for there not to be any ogres."

Seeing the ogre appear, Tang Zheng not only showed no panic, but a smile actually spread across his lips.

But the next moment!

The smile on his face froze.

Behind the first ogre, another one appeared.

Two of them?

Rustle, rustle—

Rustle—

Rustle, rustle—

From all around the surrounding forest, the sound of rustling leaves echoed continuously.

Heavy footsteps drew closer.

The smile on Tang Zheng's face vanished completely.

One by one, ogres emerged from all sides, fanning out to surround him!

"Whoa, six ogres... that's not a normal number," Tang Zheng muttered to himself.

The appearance of six ogres instantly made the atmosphere tense.

Tang Zheng stood up, his expression serious.

With his current level and strength, dealing with one ogre was no problem, and two wouldn't be much trouble either. But six at once...

This was no longer a matter of whether he could win.

"An ogre's limited intelligence shouldn't be enough to come up with a trap like this."

Tang Zheng's eyes flickered. He turned his body slightly, trying to keep as many of the ogres in his line of sight as possible.

The small goblin encampment he'd just cleared couldn't possibly support six ogres. Moreover, they had appeared in a perfect encirclement.

This didn't fit the low-intelligence profile of ogres.

However!

The ogres clearly had no intention of giving Tang Zheng time to think.

"Human!"

"Roar!"

"Die!"

Almost simultaneously, the six ogres let out ferocious roars, brandishing their huge wooden clubs as they charged toward Tang Zheng.

A chorus of heavy footsteps thudded in unison.

As they charged, their hulking two-meter-tall bodies generated an invisible wave of pressure.

I can't let them surround me!

The thought flashed through Tang Zheng's mind. He quickly scanned his surroundings and locked onto the ogre furthest from him.

"Magic Arrow!"

In this situation, it was clearly not the time to conserve magic.

Magic surged from Tang Zheng's body.

In an instant, three magical arrows condensed in mid-air and hurtled toward the most distant ogre.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The three magic arrows swiftly struck the ogre's chest, leaving three fist-sized bloody holes.

"Aghh-roar!" The ogre let out a painful bellow.

However!

An injury of this level was far from serious for the large, thick-skinned ogres.

After all, Tang Zheng's "Magic Attack" stat was only 13.

He hadn't expected his spell to cause much damage to that ogre anyway.

When the spell landed, the ogre's charge faltered, instantly creating a gap in the encircling formation.

As he launched the magic attack, Tang Zheng moved simultaneously, charging toward this gap.

"Wah-roar!"

The ogre that had been hit, seeing Tang Zheng rushing over, furiously swung the huge wooden club in its hand.

A heavy whoosh tore through the air!

Whoosh!

As he charged forward, Tang Zheng swiftly ducked, letting the massive club brush past his head. He dodged the attack and used the opening to completely break out of the ogres' encirclement.

"I'll be back to play with you later."

Without looking back, Tang Zheng pushed off the ground and quickly fled the area.

However!

The six ogres behind him clearly had no intention of letting him go, roaring in unison as they gave chase.

Thump—Thump—

The heavy footsteps caused the ground to vibrate slightly.

The dense thicket and trees seemed to be no obstacle for the ogres. As their massive bodies charged, the tangled branches and leaves were simply smashed to pieces.

The forest was their home turf!

For Tang Zheng, however, the undergrowth severely hampered his speed.
