Chapter 40: Ten Days! Max-Level 'Sword Saint'

The next day.

Rustle—

Rustle—rustle—

The sound of rustling leaves, stirred by a morning breeze, echoed through the jungle canopy.

Leaning against a tree trunk with his legs draped over a thick branch, Tang Zheng opened his eyes, took out his pocket watch, and flipped it open.

"Eight-oh-seven. I wonder if the time in this world is exactly the same as in my previous life." Tang Zheng snapped the pocket watch shut and looked up at the forest, which was still shrouded in a dim atmosphere.

Even though the sun had long risen, very little light penetrated the dense foliage.

However, compared to the dead of night, his vision was much clearer.

Tang Zheng had been awake for a while; more accurately, he had been drifting in and out of sleep all night, perhaps due to the boost in his constitution from leveling up.

Although he'd barely slept, he felt no drowsiness or fatigue.

If not for the poor visibility in the jungle, Tang Zheng would have started moving long ago.

Whoosh!

Sitting on the thick branch, Tang Zheng shifted his weight, and his body immediately fell from the tree.

Just as he was about to land…

Thud!

Tang Zheng adjusted his posture and landed steadily on his feet.

"Time to move."

Tang Zheng held the iron sword in his hand, his gaze calm as he spoke softly.

As he ventured deeper into Ogre territory, the number of goblins he encountered in the jungle gradually increased. In turn, a large number of goblins became experience points for Tang Zheng.

One day!

Two days!

Four days!

Over several consecutive days, hundreds of goblins were converted into Tang Zheng's experience, along with some wild beasts and common monsters.

His Sword Saint level rose again, reaching Lv 9!

The number of slain goblins might seem high, but in truth, it wasn't. The entire Touv Great Forest was exceptionally vast, and a hundred goblins were merely a tiny fraction of the goblin population within the Ogre territory.

Moreover, this was just the number of goblins Tang Zheng encountered during his normal travels, averaging only about twenty per day.

So, it really wasn't many.

Furthermore, Tang Zheng discovered that not all goblins lived in large tribes; many simply gathered in small groups to live and hunt.

It wasn't that Tang Zheng wasn't trying to kill more goblins.

The problem was that the jungle environment was simply too restrictive. For thirteen hours each day, the forest was plunged into complete darkness.

This put Tang Zheng, a human, at a significant disadvantage. Goblins, though weak, possessed the innate racial ability of Night Vision.

Nighttime was completely unsuitable for hunting.

Moreover, the dense jungle hindered his movement, severely limiting the distance he could cover each day and further restricting his actions.

In the days that followed, Tang Zheng's routine became monotonous: he was either killing goblins or on his way to kill goblins.

If he was lucky, he might run into an Ogre.

Because wherever Ogres were found, there were bound to be goblin encampments nearby.

As time passed, Tang Zheng himself didn't realize that the rising body count was causing a faint, foul, bloody stench to permeate the outer regions of the forest.

The smell emanated from the rotting corpses of countless goblins that had been left unattended.

Instead of attracting the jungle's many beasts, it caused them to flee the outer area in fear, migrating toward the center of the forest.

The beasts had begun to realize that a terrifying monster had appeared in their territory!

Year 4, Pre-New Calendar.
Lower Wind Month, June 11th.

Ten days had passed since he entered the Touv Great Forest on the 2nd.

Inside a small goblin encampment.

"Waaah!"

"Waaah—"

"..."

The desperate screams and wails of goblins echoed through the clearing.

Tang Zheng impassively wielded his iron sword, flashes from his blade dancing continuously through the air.

Whether it was due to the sheer number of goblins he had slain or the increase in his Sword Saint level, Tang Zheng's skill with a sword had grown remarkably proficient.

He lashed out with a kick.

The powerful blow sent a goblin flying, causing it to slam into several others that were trying to escape.

Tang Zheng pushed off with his feet, closing the distance in a few short steps. With a flick of his blade, the heads of several goblins flew into the air and dropped to the ground.

A moment later, all the goblins had been dealt with. Following his usual routine, Tang Zheng cut off their ears, put them into a sack, and stored it in his Item Box.

Gulp…

Gulp…

Tang Zheng raised the waterskin at his waist and took several large swallows before letting out a breath of relief.

Then, ignoring the corpses on the ground and the bloody scent hanging in the air, Tang Zheng took out a piece of cooked boar meat and began to eat heartily.

"This little goblin settlement doesn't have an Ogre? A pity."

Tang Zheng's cheeks bulged as he chewed, thinking to himself.

The surrounding goblin corpses didn't affect his appetite in the slightest; after his time in the jungle, he had grown accustomed to such scenes.

At that thought, Tang Zheng squatted on the ground, setting his iron sword aside. Holding the waterskin in one hand and the boar meat in the other, he rested and replenished his energy.

The wild boar he had caught a few days ago had been cooked using the 'Heating' spell, then carved up and placed in his Item Box, ready to be eaten whenever he wished.

From a distance, Tang Zheng's current appearance was not much different from that of a wild man.

His sturdy linen clothes were tattered and torn, covered with clinging leaves and scratches from branches and bushes.

His once-short black hair had also grown much longer and was a tangled mess.

This was actually the fifth set of clothes Tang Zheng had worn; the previous ones had been in even worse condition.

If not for having mastered the 'Scentless' spell, his entire body would likely reek.

However, the skin visible through the tears in his clothes revealed that he had unknowingly developed a lean, muscular physique.

"Status Panel."

Tang Zheng thought to himself.
