Chapter 416

Chapter 411: All-Out Battle! The Outcome is Decided!

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

"Ivysaur, use Frenzy Plant!!"

At the command, Ivysaur roared, just like the Venusaur across from it. It then raised its forelimbs, gathering power. A strange green light shone from the petals on its back, its aura surging with might, before it stomped heavily on the ground.

*Rumble rumble rumble...*

Instantly, the entire Battle Arena began to shake, the tremors no less intense than the earlier Earthquake.

In the next second, the ground on Ash's half of the Battle Arena cracked and shattered. Countless thick, reddish-brown thorns burst from the soil, growing to a height of five or six meters. Like monsters, they danced back and forth across the Battle Arena in a chaotic frenzy.

Each thorn seemed to possess its own will. Their thick stems were covered in sharp, terrifying spikes that glinted with a menacing light. The mere sight was enough to make one swallow hard and feel their hair stand on end.

Soon, Frenzy Plant locked onto its target, sweeping towards the incoming emerald-green Power Whip.

*PAPAPA!!*

The thorns and vines began to clash. Both were incredibly powerful, brute-force moves. Power Whip’s vines coiled around the thorns, while Frenzy Plant’s writhing tendrils used their immense power and built-in spikes to tear through the whip's energy form.

For a moment, fragments of thorns and green energy rained down onto the ground. Their power was evenly matched, and the two Pokémon at the source continued to grit their teeth, frantically channeling more energy.

*Swoosh!!*

After a stalemate lasting several minutes, the younger one's power ultimately proved greater. Amidst the deadlock, several of Frenzy Plant's thorns finally broke through the collision point in the middle and shot towards their target. The Venusaur could only widen its eyes, its body momentarily unable to move. It watched helplessly as the terrifying thorns grew infinitely larger in its pupils.

*BOOM BOOM BOOM!!*

Finally, a terrifying explosion roared out. The energy spread outwards in a ripple-like shockwave, forcing both Ash and the Masked Man to take a step back.

The green energy of Power Whip dissipated, and the fearsome thorns of Frenzy Plant retreated back underground as if they had never appeared, leaving only the wrecked and shattered ground of the Battle Arena as proof that a great battle had indeed just occurred.

"Saur..."

"Venu..."

As the smoke and dust cleared, both Pokémon were still standing firm in the Battle Arena, but their bodies were covered in wounds. They trembled, panting heavily. This time, both had entered a state of near collapse.

Venusaur had taken a Frenzy Plant head-on, and a thorn had viciously lashed its face, leaving behind a grievous, bloody wound.

As for Ivysaur, having just completed its form change, it was now overdrawing on that power. Its mind was already on the verge of fainting from the strain.

No one would have thought that a situation that seemed so one-sided at the start would reach such a point...

At this moment, any single move could end the battle. The Masked Man, being the more experienced veteran, was the first to react, letting out a low shout to seize the initiative.

"Strike first to gain the upper hand! Venusaur, use Razor Leaf!!"

"Venu!!"

Venusaur immediately roused the last of its strength, converting it into countless green leaf blades, ready to fire.

Although it wasn't Sunny Day, the sun was still hanging in the sky, creating a sort of mild sunny weather. It could activate its minor Chlorophyll ability and still attack first.

Although Ash was a step behind, he was inexplicably confident. After sweeping his gaze across the field, he suddenly declared:

"Ivysaur, you can use that move now!"

This sentence made the Masked Man freeze, feeling a sense of foreboding from the unknown.

Before the match, Ash's Ivysaur had actually been holding an item—the so-called Grass Shoes, which would allow it to use Grassy Glide regardless of the terrain. However, because it was an illegal item, it was confiscated by The Officials before the match even began, much like a modified car getting caught by traffic police the moment it hits the road.

Artificial Grassy Surge abilities were not legal in the Kanto Region.

But right now, the Battle Arena's ground was covered in the fragments from Razor Leaf, the remnants of Frenzy Plant's thorns, and the green energy left behind by Power Whip. It was more than enough to create the effects of a Grassy Terrain.

*Swoosh!*

The next second, Ivysaur's body was already sliding forward. Its speed was as fast as a phantom, and its body was cloaked in a layer of cyan energy, as if it had transformed into a powerful, cyan-colored shockwave.

Though it had started a step behind, Grassy Glide managed to get ahead of Razor Leaf, ultimately slamming heavily into Venusaur's forehead.

A priority move doesn't care if you have minor Chlorophyll or major Chlorophyll; it will always strike first!

*BOOM BOOM!!*

The cyan light exploded, kicking up another sizable cloud of smoke and dust.

"Is the outcome finally decided?"

"Holy cow, this first battle is already so intense, and you're telling me there are five more?"

"Everyone shut up, the smoke is about to clear."

When the smoke and dust dissipated, the situation in the Battle Arena left everyone utterly dumbfounded.

The massive, third-stage Venusaur had collapsed, its four limbs splayed out as it lay fainted on the ground.

And Ivysaur, though still panting for breath, had one of its forelimbs resting on Venusaur's head, holding itself steady.

The outcome was decided!

"SAUR!!"

It then threw its head back and roared. As it did, the petals on its back bloomed into magnificent flowers, letting everyone feel its wild and arrogant aura, leaving them all in shock.

It, #002, was stronger than #003!!

"Venusaur is unable to battle! Ivysaur is the winner!!"

The Referee immediately announced the verdict. The words made even Ash tremble slightly in disbelief.

He never expected to be the first to take a round.

But soon, looking at his Ivysaur's high-spirited face, Ash also broke into a smile, secretly clenching his fists.

His Ivysaur would one day, in this very form, become the most powerful existence of the Bulbasaur line!

"Hiss..."

"Holy cow..."

In the audience stands, even Ash's own supporters were repeatedly shocked, drawing in several sharp breaths. They never imagined that against the Masked Man, it would be Ash who took the first win.

Although that Venusaur's strength wasn't as exaggerated as Incineroar's, it was still incredibly powerful!

Sitting to the side, Blue's face was flushed, her breathing rapid. A look of envy filled her eyes as she constantly tugged on Professor Oak next to her, saying anxiously:

"Professor, Professor! My Little Garlic wants to bloom too!!"

Her Ivysaur didn't want to evolve either! If it could bloom in its second stage, that would be the most perfect form!

Damn it, that Ash guy was holding out!

"Uh... I'm even more curious than you are."

Professor Oak had a troubled expression. He had seen at least five hundred of the so-called "Garlic Turtles," if not a thousand. He had even seen plenty of shiny ones. But this was the first time he had ever seen an Ivysaur like this. His research spirit was about to explode; he wished he could drag Ivysaur back home for a physical examination right this instant.

But it wasn't a big issue. After all, Ash's respawn point was at the Research Institute. He'd heard this Ivysaur had already conquered several Totem Pokémon to become the king of the backyard, so he would have plenty of opportunities to study it in the future.

The key right now was this quarterfinal match. It was originally a lopsided affair that no one thought Ash could win; the odds on Ash's side had even risen to over 100-to-1.

But now, the situation had become baffling and unpredictable once more.

Meanwhile, in the commentary booth, the announcer DP was practically spitting as he roared, continuously praising the brilliance of the match.

*Thump.*

At that moment, a microphone was shoved right up to his nostrils, cutting his words short.

DP: "?"

"Dalang, time to eat the microphone."

Xiaojia simply said with a smile.

But DP was a slick one and had already thought of an escape route. "Just put it on my tab. It's not like I can run away. I'll eat however many microphones I owe after the tournament."

"The classic 'put it on my tab' again?"

"You got a problem with that? Hehe."

The two announcers were still bantering, serving as a buffer before the start of the second battle. After all, the Battle Arena had been left pitted and ruined by Frenzy Plant, and they needed to switch to a different venue.
