Chapter 395: Overwhelming Level Difference

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

(Thanks to Free Falling Angel for the donation, here's an extra chapter.)——

Misty watched the two in the arena, her brow tightly furrowed.

When she said they were similar, she wasn't just referring to the scene of a Charmander evolving and immediately breathing fire on its Trainer because it was disobedient.

There was also the scene of an underdog victory, of a Trainer's "rejuvenation roar" in a desperate situation, and the Pokémon responding to his voice to launch a counterattack. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but blurt out:

"For Psyduck's sake, isn't this just Ash's standard operating procedure!?"

No wonder everyone said they were similar.

Sitting beside her, Brock's brow furrowed once more, his eyes flashing with a wise light.

"Hmm, the two of them aren't really alike at all... Ritchie is still missing something."

Misty: "?"

What kind of riddle was this?

How is it that just as I've grasped this layer of "similarity," you've already jumped to a higher understanding of "dissimilarity"?

"Misty, you're getting caught up in appearances."

Brock just patted Misty's shoulder lightly. On the path to understanding Ash, she was several Great Perfection Realms behind him.

Misty: "?"

She couldn't help but pat the brown-haired girl sitting on her other side and ask in a low voice:

"Blue, don't you think this guy is a lot like someone from your hometown?"

Blue was still lost in thought and was slightly startled when she finally registered the question.

"Ah! Oh, I wasn't watching the battle. I was observing my Little Fire's sitting posture. It stands up to change its position every five minutes, then sits back down. Do you think there's something prickly in that brazier?"

Her perspective was always so peculiar.

She had already figured it out during the first battle with Butterfree.

Ash had it in the bag.

With the outcome all but certain, Blue lost her curiosity and instead turned her attention to the Moltres perched in the high brazier like a mother hen.

"Hey, do you think I should go give it a fireproof blanket later?"

Misty: "..."

In the arena, the battle continued.

Although the newly evolved Charmeleon seemed imposing, evolution hadn't restored its depleted stamina. After spitting out a stream of flame, it began to pant heavily.

At opposite ends of the arena, the two Trainers were still staring intently at each other.

"Ritchie, I won't be holding back!"

As Ash's voice fell, blazing flames had already ignited on Gengar's fists, which were hanging at its sides.

"Jiang Ben and I won't admit defeat either!!"

Although he didn't know why he'd just gotten a face full of fire, Ritchie wiped the black ash from his face and shouted back. Similarly, flames ignited on Charmeleon's fists as well.

By absorbing the energy from Gengar's Fire Punch, it had successfully learned the move.

The next second, both Trainers yelled in unison:

"Use Fire Punch!!"

As they spoke, both figures kicked off the ground with their hind legs, charging toward their opponent. They raised their flaming fists, aiming straight for the other's face.

"Boom!!"

Fire Punch met Fire Punch. The force of the blows was fierce, scattering flames and creating a considerable impact.

Perhaps due to the starting buff from its evolution, Charmeleon actually managed to block Gengar's solid punch.

Soon, the fists separated, followed by another clash of their other fists!

"Boom!"

"Boom!"

"Boom!!"

In less than a few seconds, the two had already exchanged several Fire Punches. The sound of sonic booms exploded repeatedly, and the entire arena floor was littered with small flames.

"Jiang Ben, don't lose to it!!"

"Gengar, don't lose to it!!"

The two Trainers' voices rose from behind, bolstering their Pokémon's fighting spirit. But in terms of technique, power, and presence, Gengar had the absolute upper hand.

After a few rounds of clashing, Charmeleon was already mentally and physically exhausted. Every punch was squeezing out the last of its strength.

"Gengar..."

Suddenly, Gengar let out a sinister laugh, leaning its body to the left to feign an opening. Charmeleon fell for it on the spot, throwing a heavy punch that passed straight through the afterimage Gengar left behind. Gengar's own fist had already shot out from another tricky angle.

"Boom-pfft!!"

In the next instant, the force of the punch and the flame energy exploded simultaneously on Charmeleon's abdomen. The terrifying power sent it flying backward like a cannonball, finally crashing heavily onto the ground several meters away.

"Jiang Ben!!"

"Roar..."

Ritchie's voice made Charmeleon struggle to its feet, but before it could fully stand, an extreme sense of weakness from its limbs finally made it unable to bear the pressure, and it collapsed with a thud.

The outcome was decided.

"Charmeleon is unable to battle! Gengar is the winner!!"

The Referee promptly announced.

The arena immediately erupted in cheers and applause. Although it had been an almost one-sided situation, the final fist-to-flesh battle between the dragon and the ghost had gotten their blood pumping and left them breathless.

The whole process was just a bit short.

Watching the Gengar on the arena floor cheering and striking various poses, its blood-red eyes narrowed to a slit, seemingly devoid of the ferocity and fierceness it had during the battle, the audience wore expressions of shock.

"That's an overwhelming level difference."

"That Gengar is still basically at full health."

"I never expected this trainer, Ash, to have such an ace."

"Is a physical-attack Gengar really that strong? I'm going to make my Haunter forget useless moves like Shadow Ball and Confusion later!"

"Return, Jiang Ben. You've already worked very hard."

In the arena, Ritchie recalled Charmeleon into its Poké Ball, subconsciously lowering his head. Though his expression couldn't be seen, one could imagine the disappointment in his heart.

After painstakingly fighting through four preliminary matches to reach the main stadium, only to have two of his Pokémon defeated in a row by an opponent with overwhelming strength right from the start—someone with a weaker mentality might have already broken down.

But soon, Ritchie raised his head again.

His eyes held nothing but a blazing battle intent.

"Ash, you're very strong, but one day I will defeat you!!" Ritchie took a step forward and said in a heavy tone. Although he could choose to forfeit, he resolutely took out his third Poké Ball, his gaze incomparably firm.

"Even if I lose, I will defeat at least one of your Pokémon today!!"

This momentum made Ash pause for a moment. This feeling was as if he were looking in a mirror, battling a past version of himself.

Immediately, a strong battle intent also appeared in his eyes. At this moment, going all out was the greatest respect he could show Ritchie.

Soon, Ritchie threw his Poké Ball forward forcefully. "I'm counting on you, Rehn, my ace!!"

A red light flashed, and what appeared on the arena was a yellow Electric Mouse Pokémon, its battle intent soaring. On the side of its head, three curly tufts of hair were sticking up.

"Pika!"

Ritchie's ace was a Pikachu.

"A Pikachu, huh... Return, Gengar."

Although Gengar's stamina was still basically full, Ash raised his hand and recalled it. The Electric Mouse Pokémon by his leg understood perfectly and leaped directly onto the arena, facing its opponent from a distance.

Electric Mouse versus Electric Mouse, ace versus ace!

The next second, Ash and Ritchie simultaneously gave the command to attack:

"Rehn, use Quick Attack!" "Pikachu, use Quick Attack!!"

As they spoke, the two Electric Mouse Pokémon dropped to all fours and simultaneously ran towards the center of the arena, their bodies covered in a dazzling white light as they sprinted.

"Clang!!"

The two white-glowing figures collided, pushing hard against each other. The force of the impact spread outwards in a stormy ripple. Whether it was speed or strength, they were evenly matched.

After the single blow, both Pikachu recoiled and landed back on their respective sides.

Unexpectedly, the moment Ash's Pikachu landed, a cunning smile appeared in its small eyes. It kicked off the ground again and charged forward, the white light reappearing on its body. The motion was so fluid and smooth it was as if it had never landed at all.

"Pika!"

Caught off guard, Rehn, who had just landed, was sent flying several meters by the oncoming Pikachu.

"That's a two-stage Quick Attack!"

Ash smiled confidently.

In a battle between Electric Mouse Pokémon, his Pikachu wouldn't lose to anyone!
