Chapter 356: Fun Fact: A Clean Sweep Already Happened Next Door! (Fourth Update)

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

"Seadra is unable to battle! The winner of this battle is Kingler!"

As the Referee announced the result, many of the spectators revealed looks of shock. From the looks of it now, was Guangwu, the one they favored, actually a scrub?

And Ash, whom no one thought much of, actually had potential?

"I remember now! Ash from Pallet Town... and that match an hour ago, that was also a trainer from Pallet Town, right? They were even strong enough to achieve a clean sweep!"

"Oh, I know, that trainer's name was Gary, right? He's pretty handsome. I'd even be up for some 'fencing' with him."

Many in the audience recalled the earlier Gary. Both his sharp, suffocating offensive during the battle and his arrogant, flashy rich-boy attitude afterward had left a deep impression.

"Guys, forget a few hours ago. Let me drop a fun fact. Just three minutes ago, I came over from the Rock Arena next door. Someone got a lightning-fast clean sweep over there, and it seems they even broke the record for the fastest preliminary match in the Indigo League Conference."

"And here's another fun fact. The one who battled over there was another trainer from Pallet Town. You remember, right? That girl with the Moltres."

His words stunned the entire crowd.

Seeing that there were indeed quite a few spectators who had just entered, all nodding in agreement with pale expressions, it was clear they had received quite a fright over there.

"Don't try to scare us. Was the clean sweep over there really that terrifying?"

"Damn, I told you that girl was a fortunate one! She even broke a record? Is her strength really that terrifying? It seems she's going to be this year's champion!"

"What a pity. If I'd known, I would have watched that match first. I could've come over to watch this one right after."

"So where exactly is this Pallet Town?"

Unwittingly, the name Pallet Town had been seared into the memories of many passersby.

For the past decade or so, the only celebrity from Pallet Town was Professor Oak. His reputation was indeed renowned, but the media rarely focused on his origins, concentrating more on his academic research.

And his contributions to the field of stand-up comedy.

But now, at the Indigo League Conference, whenever a participant was introduced, their place of origin had become an unavoidable topic of discussion.

"So is this a Pallet Town tradition? Everyone gets a clean sweep?"

The audience members turned their attention back to the Water Arena.

"Damn... Blue, she's already finished her battle?"

On the battlefield, Ash's hearing was sharp, and he had already overheard many people discussing the information about the lightning-fast clean sweep next door that had even broken the League's record for the shortest time. He couldn't help but suck in a cold breath.

You had to know, Blue had left five minutes after he did, yet here he was just getting to the climax, and Blue was already done?

"Did Azure Master step in again...?"

Blue's training hadn't focused on Pokémon battles but on all sorts of other quirky things, so her strength shouldn't be on par with his or Gary's. To get such a quick clean sweep, either her opponent was ridiculously weak, or Azure Master had stepped in yet again.

"Heh heh..."

The passersby might think Blue was a fortunate one, but Ash knew the real story. Not only did Blue have no good fortune, she was the kind of unlucky person you'd only see once a decade.

She'd even get paid to leave if she went to a Team Rocket casino, respectfully shown the door and asked to go bankrupt some other casino.

She didn't have the kind of good luck to run into a complete scrub, which meant Azure Master had taken action!

"Damn it, other people have an old-timer who can lend a hand, but is mine going to snipe me in the next match!?"

He was suddenly reminded that the current Brother Red had completely let himself go. He'd probably just possess some random trainer and plan to walk away with the trophy, right?

Ash violently shook his head to dispel the thought. The match wasn't over yet, and he couldn't get careless before the final moment. He quickly focused his attention back in front of him.

"Return, Seadra."

Guangwu raised his hand, recalling the wretched-looking Seadra floating on the water's surface.

Losing two rounds in a row had, contrary to expectations, calmed him down. A strange light emanated from his eyes as he stared straight at Ash.

"Hmph, I thought you were just a Small Fry, but it turns out you're a lucky Small Fry. You got fortunate and won two rounds..."

Ash: "?"

He wanted to jump over and punch Guangwu in the face.

To still say something like that after a clear stomp... he hadn't expected that.

"But your good luck has completely run out! My third Pokémon will not lose to anyone!!"

Guangwu suddenly roared, his face becoming somewhat ferocious. He then spread his arms in a pose as if embracing the sun. From in front of him, a Poké Ball began to slowly levitate, glowing with a dazzling light.

"Bang!!"

A flashbang detonated. The sudden light pollution blinded many people who had been staring with wide eyes.

"Ah, my eyes!"

Under the light, many spectators couldn't help but shut their eyes.

"Chaw!"

Soon, the light dissipated, and a Pokémon appeared in everyone's vision.

It was a purplish-black Pokémon, consisting of a single head. A gaping maw took up most of its face, lined with several sharp, poisonous fangs. Its eyes were sinister, and a pair of broad wings grew from the sides of its head.

"That's it?"

These two words weren't spoken by Ash, but by the nearly one thousand spectators in unison. The countless voices merged, as deafening as thunder, causing the entire Indigo League venue to tremble slightly.

If security guards weren't watching from below, Guangwu would have already been beaten to death by this thousand-strong audience.

"That's it?"

Ash uttered the same two words half a second later. All those flashy moves, even busting out a flashbang to scare people, and all you bring out is a Golbat?

Even Teacher Brock has a Golbat, and its size is way bigger than yours!

"Ahem..."

Seeing that Guangwu was about to incite public outrage, the Referee quickly waved his hand, bringing the match back on track.

"Let the match begin!"

"Kingler, this guy's speed is high, be careful."

As the match started, Ash carefully gave a warning. He had fought Golbat several times and didn't even need the Pokédex for a reminder.

"Koken."

Kingler nodded cautiously. Although it rarely got to appear in battle, if it could really pull off a clean sweep right from the start today, that impressive battle record would be enough for it to return to Pallet Town as the underwater overlord and retire in peace!

Guangwu snapped his fingers and took the initiative.

"Golbat, use Air Slash!"

Golbat flapped its wings in front of itself, and several blades of pale blue energy instantly condensed in the air, turning into sharp blades that shot forward.

"Kingler, smash them with Crabhammer!"

Kingler immediately raised its two large pincers again. After they were covered in a white, cold light, it swung them violently in front of itself, swatting all the Air Slashes and shattering them into residual energy.

However, the distant Golbat was constantly shifting its position, flashing around wildly and unleashing Air Slash from all angles. In no time, the heavy Kingler was struggling to keep up and accidentally took a slash to its back.

"Kingler, sidestep and jump into the water!"

Ash immediately changed his strategy.
