Chapter 354: Krabby vs. Exeggutor! (Second Update)

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

The battle began.

“Exeggutor, use Psybeam!”

Guangwu initiated the first attack.

Blue light glowed in the eyes on Exeggutor's three heads. A rainbow-colored, ring-shaped shockwave of psychic energy then materialized before it and shot toward the floating platform where Krabby was.

“Krabby, move sideways!”

Ash immediately chose to dodge. On a water battlefield, it was only natural to make full use of the surroundings.

“Koko!”

Krabby understood. Its legs moved instinctively as it leaped directly into the large pool below. The Psybeam struck the floating platform half a second too late, blasting a penetrating, elliptical gouge right through it. Its power was clearly not low.

Seeing Krabby fall silent after entering the water, Guangwu simply snapped his fingers elegantly.

“Did you think I'd have no way to deal with you just because you submerged yourself? Exeggutor, use Confusion on the entire pool!”

“Nasshii!”

A blue light once again flashed in the eyes on Exeggutor's heads. Within seconds, its powerful psychic energy had scanned the entire environment at the bottom of the pool.

Since the pool was filled with pure water and had no other impurities, it quickly pinpointed Krabby's position.

Guangwu waved his thumb. "Found it, have you? Use Psybeam and expose it!"

Psybeam wasn't limited to being a shockwave; it could also take the form of telekinesis to manipulate objects.

“Whoosh…”

Following some arcane manipulation from Exeggutor, the water's surface around Krabby began to spin out of thin air. Bathed in blue psychic light, a small but powerful whirlpool quickly formed. The current spun so intensely that one could even see the bottom of the nearly three-meter-deep pool.

Krabby's body was completely exposed, with half of it trapped in the vortex. The raging current made it impossible for it to break free.

Guangwu made an elegant, curtain-call-like gesture, as if standing on a theater stage, and called out in a loud, flamboyant voice.

“Finish it off, use Seed Bomb~”

“Nasshii~”

The palm leaves on Exeggutor's head swayed, as if gathering some kind of power.

Although the situation looked dire, Ash was unhurried. He suddenly gave a command:

“Go against its whirlpool! We'll use Whirlpool!”

“Koko!”

Krabby understood. A strange blue light now glinted in its eyes, and a swirling current began to form around its body. The current rapidly expanded, and within moments, a new, counter-rotating whirlpool had formed inside the first one.

Two negatives make a positive.

The previously raging whirlpool was instantly nullified, and the water's surface became calm again, as if nothing had ever happened.

“Hmph, how dare you compare the power of Whirlpool with a Water-type Pokémon?”

In the Johto Region, the Whirlpool move is used as a tool for navigation. To break through the dangerous whirlpools surrounding the Whirl Islands, one must use a counter-rotating Whirlpool—two negatives make a positive. It could be said that Ash had unintentionally used Whirlpool in its most fundamental way.

“Now's your chance, dive to the bottom!”

“Koko!”

Seeing a barrage of gleaming white Seed Bombs falling from above with considerable power, Krabby immediately sank to the bottom of the pool to dodge.

Between its agile body, no longer trapped by the whirlpool, and the buffer of over three meters of water, the fully charged Seed Bomb attack fizzled out, causing no damage whatsoever.

“You've had your turn for long enough. It's our turn now, isn't it?”

Ash fixed his sharp gaze on the Exeggutor still standing on the central floating platform and suddenly raised his hand to command:

“Leap out of the water and use Clamp!!”

“Splash!!”

A fiery red figure shot out violently from the water's surface right next to Exeggutor. It had already snuck into this position.

“Koko!”

Krabby leaped three feet into the air, its sharp pincer—almost larger than its own body—clamping down directly on Exeggutor's palm leaves. These weren't just useless external foliage, but one of Exeggutor's organs. The excruciating pain from the clamp caused it to let out a wail of pain on the spot.

“Nasshii…”

Guangwu was also startled by Krabby's sudden sneak attack. But seeing that the target was now at point-blank range in front of Exeggutor, he immediately ordered an attack:

“Exeggutor, now's your chance! Use Psybeam directly!”

But Ash was faster: “Krabby, use Leer!”

Just as it was about to unleash its psychic power, Exeggutor unintentionally met Krabby's gaze. It was overcome with a baseless fear, and the startup animation for Psybeam halted.

Exeggutor flinched, unable to use its move.

“What!?”

Meanwhile, Krabby's clamp continued to exert pressure and inflict damage. It brandished its might, its tiny body forming a stark contrast with the massive Exeggutor, like a child riding a giant cart. The scene was bizarre.

Seeing Exeggutor's body begin to sway, its stamina now low enough, Ash commanded once more:

“Finish it off! Use Stomp!!”

“Koko!!”

Krabby flung its pincer, using the palm leaves to launch itself high into the air. It then dropped down abruptly, its hard, bone-like hind legs stomping heavily on Exeggutor's trunk. The powerful force was so great it even left a visible dent, causing the latter's three coconut-like faces to turn ashen in an instant.

“Nasshii…”

By the time Krabby leaped away and landed on another floating platform, Exeggutor's eyes were swirling, and it had completely lost its ability to battle.

“The first battle's winner is Contestant Ash's Krabby!!”

The Referee announced in a timely manner.

“Wooo!!”

“Krabby is awesome!!”

“This year, I'm not eating shrimp, only crabs!!”

Krabby's series of decisive moves and its fierce offense, which gave its opponent no room to retaliate, instantly won it a lot of seafood fans, who all cheered and applauded.

However, something seemed to be wrong with Krabby's body. It suddenly froze in place.

“Krabby?”

Before Ash could jump over for a closer look, Krabby's body was suddenly enveloped in a brilliant, mystical white light, completely covering its form. In the white light, its body began to expand, and the structure of its limbs started to change shape.

“It's evolving?”

“Whoa, mid-battle evolution…?”

“This trainer must have planned this…”

The evolution of a Pokémon is not a common sight. The surrounding audience widened their eyes, staring intently at Krabby's transformation on the field, letting the dazzling white light shine on their faces and into their eyes.

“BOOM!!”

Half a minute later, with a mighty swing of its now enormous pincer, Krabby shattered the white light surrounding it, revealing its brand-new form to everyone.

Its previous form was perhaps only knee-high, but now it was even larger than a person. Its exoskeleton shell emanated a hard, metallic glint, and sharp spikes had grown from several parts of its body.

This was especially true of its two large pincers, which were now almost larger than its entire body. When it swung them, you could feel a powerful gust with the naked eye. Its imposing might was extraordinary.

If the previous Krabby looked shabby and scrawny, the current Kingler was incredibly cool—a being worthy of being served at the main table!

“Whoa, it evolved into a Kingler!?”

In front of the television.

Professor Oak's eyes lit up instantly, his face flushing red. Even the instant noodles he had just prepared suddenly lost their appeal.
