Chapter 1209: Awakening, Jirachi
Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
"Is this Jirachi?"
In the jungle, Ash was sprinting at high speed, cradling a purplish-brown, spiky rock.
"ROAR!!"
But before he could get far, two roars sounded from behind him.
Ash subconsciously turned his head and saw a Salamence flying through the air, rushing toward him at extreme speed.
On the ground was a black, wolf-like Pokémon, leaping and running through the jungle, its jet-black fur blending in perfectly with the night.
"Uh, are pseudo-legendaries a dime a dozen now...?"
Ash saw a person standing atop the Salamence.
It was none other than the fanatical scientist who had been kicked out of Team Magma.
Catching up to Ash, Butler finally leaped off the Salamence's back.
"Kid, you dare steal my things!" he snarled, his face ashen with rage.
"Hey, don't make things up. I left a berry there. It was an equivalent exchange."
Ash quickly held up a hand, correcting him seriously.
He then stopped running and brazenly held the stone egg in his arms.
*Right, why should I run? He can't beat me anyway.*
Even if this Salamence looked pretty ferocious.
"ROOOAR!!"
Sensing the disdain in Ash's expression, the Salamence immediately flew into a rage. It leaped into the air and soared forward, its mouth opening as dangerous, orange-yellow energy began to gather.
"Awoo...!!"
The Mightyena beside it didn't attack immediately, but instead let out a howl to increase its attack power.
"You want a battle? Then I choose you!"
Seeing that his opponent had two Pokémon, Ash's eyes lit up, and he quickly threw out two Poké Balls.
Bang! Bang!
The two red lights had barely taken form before the figures within transformed into red and green streaks of light, simultaneously rushing the attacking Salamence.
On one side, a scythe-like Leaf Blade shimmered with a sharp green light, slashing right into the Salamence's chest with an incredibly tricky and fierce trajectory.
Leaf Blade!
The other figure leaped into mid-air, then executed a spinning reverse kick. Wreathed in scorching flames, the flying kick struck the Salamence's slender neck.
Crack! Crack!
Faintly, the sound of splintering bone could even be heard.
Blaze Kick!
Struck by both the slash and the kick simultaneously, the Salamence was sent flying backward before it could even fire its Hyper Beam, crashing heavily into the depths of the jungle.
Judging by its wretched state, it was clearly unable to battle.
"What?! How is that possible?!"
Butler watched in horror as his prized Salamence was flung past him.
This was a powerful pseudo-legendary! How was it taken out in a single exchange?!
But he didn't know that there are differences even among pseudo-legendary Pokémon.
If this Salamence were truly strong enough, he would have at least been an enforcer for Team Magma, not tossed out like a stray dog.
Meanwhile, the two red lights finally solidified, revealing the forms of Sceptile and Blaziken standing side-by-side before Ash.
Neither of them paid any attention to the opponent in front of them; instead, they turned and glared at each other.
"Chaa-mo...!!"
Sceptile picked up a twig, gesturing that it was the one who struck the Salamence's body first.
"Basha!!"
Blaziken, not to be outdone, immediately gestured that it was the one who kicked and broke the Salamence's neck first.
The two fully evolved starter Pokémon pressed their heads together, squawking at each other, neither willing to back down.
Fighters who use blades and fighters who use their legs are natural rivals.
"Awooo!!"
The remaining Mightyena still wanted to attack, and it snarled, baring its fangs.
This made both Sceptile and Blaziken turn their heads at the same time. The green light of a Leaf Blade flashed, and the scorching flames of a Blaze Kick ignited...
Their ferocious appearances directly intimidated the Dark-type Mightyena.
"Awhimper...!"
It then let out a whimper and ran away wretchedly with its tail between its legs.
*Gotta go, gotta go...*
*It was just a showpiece Mightyena for a magic trick...*
In an instant, Butler was left all alone, standing there with a bewildered expression.
"Sorry, but this thing's mine now. You can go find another Jirachi."
With the battle concluded, Ash recalled Blaziken and Sceptile, then waved his hand in dismissal at Butler with a look of disdain.
It seemed there was no need to be polite to people like an evil scientist from Team Magma.
"..."
Butler's expression shifted rapidly.
He desperately wanted to take back Jirachi's stone cocoon, but he was no match for the strength this youth displayed.
In the end, Butler could only watch as Ash's figure swaggered away, gradually disappearing into the dark jungle.
"Damn it!!"
He could only slam his fist onto the ground in a fit of rage.
BOOOOM!!
Behind him, the sound of a massive fiery explosion suddenly erupted, the commotion considerable.
His girlfriend, Diane, had finally made up her mind and had blown up the ominous restoration device, along with Groudon's claw, setting it all ablaze.
Turning to stare blankly at the great fiery explosion, the myriad of expressions on Butler's face finally settled into one of loneliness and despair.
"Forget it... From now on, I'll just be a magician..."
A short while later, Ash arrived at an uninhabited area within the jungle.
He placed the purple stone cocoon flat on a rock platform.
"Move back a little, I'm coming out~"
A gentle telepathic voice sounded. Ash quickly took a step back, his eyes wide with anticipation.
Swoosh swoosh swoosh...!
The purplish-brown stone cocoon burst forth with a strange light, shining with blinding intensity.
The next moment, the stone cocoon vanished. In the air, a pale yellow object had appeared, shaped like a human infant, most of its body wrapped in yellow fabric.
As the yellow fabric completely unfurled, a yellow-and-white Pokémon was revealed. Its body and head were a milky white, and its head was covered by three yellow protrusions, making it look like a star from a distance.
At the end of the three star-like points were blank wish tags.
It had large, jet-black eyes with small, light-green marks beneath them, making it look as if it were constantly on the verge of tears.
The yellow fabric that had previously wrapped its body was now tied to its back like a small cape, fluttering in the wind.
"So this is Jirachi?!"
Ash was amazed and quickly pulled out his Pokédex.
"Dee-dee. Jirachi, the Wish Pokémon. A Steel- and Psychic-type. According to legend, it can grant any wish when the True Eye on its abdomen opens. It is said to awaken only once every thousand years for a period of just seven days before falling back into a deep sleep."
Ash took a closer look and, sure enough, he could see a curved mark on Jirachi's little white belly, just like a closed eye.
"It only awakens for seven days?"
But the Pokédex's description sent a bit of a chill down his spine.
Awakening once every thousand years, and only for seven days at a time... that cycle is just too absurd!
"Wuwu~~!"
The newly awakened Jirachi paid no mind to any of this. It showed a beaming, cute expression and flew nimbly around Ash.
