Chapter 40: The Ancient Dragon Race

2024-07-17 Author: Xianyu Wangyue

The Azure Bull Python's scales crawled in an instant. It opened its massive jaws and bit toward Aotian.

At the same time, a glacial gaze shot out. The surrounding space turned an azure hue, and everything began to slow down.

This was its Domain, which had a slowing effect.

"Not again," Aotian couldn't stand these guys' mouths. He lashed out with another slap.

The thirty-meter-long Azure Bull Python was just as helpless, with not a shred of resistance. Like a small snake, it was sent flying into the lake, kicking up a colossal splash.

Xiao Wu and her mother stood there stunned, their minds momentarily ceasing to function.

The Titan Giant Ape burst from the water, roaring in fury as it charged at Aotian.

"Er Ming, stop!" two voices cried out simultaneously.

It was Xiao Wu and the Azure Bull Python who had spoken.

The Titan Giant Ape halted in front of Aotian, but its large eyes still glared at him with rage.

The Azure Bull Python swam ashore and said, "He bears no malice. He only sent us flying; he didn't harm us. Besides, to be able to knock us away without injury, his strength is far above our own."

The Titan Giant Ape's massive face went blank for a moment. It scratched its head and said, "Is that really true?"

Xiao Wu let go of her mother and ran over, skidding to a halt in front of Aotian. "Aotian, what's going on? How did you send Da Ming and Er Ming flying?"

"Just like this," Aotian said with a smile, waving his palm.

"That's not what I meant," Xiao Wu said, a little annoyed. "Don't you only have the strength of a Soul Master? How could you slap Da Ming and Er Ming away?"

"Who said I only have the strength of a Soul Master?"

As he spoke, Aotian's form flickered, and he transformed into the appearance of a young man.

"You're Big Brother Aotian!" Xiao Wu exclaimed, covering her mouth and backing away instinctively.

Her first thought was: *This is bad. I brought a Titled Douluo back with me.*

But she quickly recovered and asked, "Are you Aotian or Big Brother Aotian?"

Aotian looked at the startled little girl and chuckled. "I am Aotian, and I am also Big Brother Aotian."

"How can you be two people at the same time?" Xiao Wu still couldn't believe it.

No matter how she racked her brain, she couldn't comprehend the fact that a young man and a child were the same person.

Xiao Wu's mother walked over, placing a slender, soft hand on Xiao Wu's head. She said gently, "Xiao Wu, won't you introduce your friend to your mother?"

Xiao Wu's expression was complicated. "Mother, he's a Titled Douluo. The little one from before is my classmate from the Academy. The little one told me the big one was his older brother, but how can they be the same person?"

The Azure Bull Python and the Titan Giant Ape moved to flank Xiao Wu and her mother, watching Aotian warily.

Xiao Wu's mother waved her hand. "Don't be so rude. This gentleman means no harm."

She looked at Aotian and said, "Mr. Ao, is it? Please come into our humble home for a cup of tea."

Aotian smiled and nodded.

Xiao Wu's mother pulled Xiao Wu toward the Grass Hut built by the lake, with Aotian following behind.

The two behemoths couldn't fit inside and could only wait outside.

"Big Brother, what do you think this human's strength is? I couldn't resist that slap of his at all," the Titan Giant Ape whispered.

"I suspect he might be a legendary Level Ninety-Nine Titled Douluo, one of the supreme powerhouses among humans," the Azure Bull Python guessed.

"That's strange then. What purpose would a Level Ninety-Nine Titled Douluo have in getting close to Sister Xiao Wu?" It scratched its big head, unable to figure it out.

"Don't overthink it. Aunt Bao said he has no ill intent, so he has no ill intent."

...

The Grass Hut was fully furnished, though the craftsmanship was a bit crude. Aotian guessed that Xiao Wu's mother had made everything herself.

He looked at the young madam before him. Her beauty was stunning. Her figure was slightly less impressive than Bibi Dong's, but her legs were exceptionally straight and slender.

She had a very gentle temperament and always wore a soft smile, making it easy for others to feel warmly toward her.

She skillfully took out a teacup, poured a cup for Aotian, and said, "You humans enjoy serving tea to guests. I lived in the Human World for a few years and grew fond of drinking tea myself."

A few chrysanthemum petals floated in the teacup, releasing a faint, fresh fragrance.

"These are the chrysanthemums I planted behind the hut. Please, have a taste."

Aotian raised the teacup, took a sip, and praised, "Not bad."

Xiao Wu sat beside her mother, her emotions complicated as she looked at Aotian.

She had already accepted that Brother Ao Tian and Aotian were the same person, but she felt conflicted. What kind of attitude should she have toward Aotian from now on?

After all, this person was a Titled Douluo.

"Aotian, is this your true identity?" Xiao Wu asked.

Aotian shook his head. His body shrank, returning to the appearance of a seven-year-old. "This is my true body size. What you saw before was just my avatar."

"Avatar? What's that?" Xiao Wu was puzzled, as was her mother.

As 100,000-year Soul Beasts, they had never heard of such a thing.

"You can think of it as a body condensed from soul power."

"Then is your age really only seven?" Xiao Wu grew even more confused.

If this was Aotian's real body, which only looked seven years old, how could he possess such immense strength?

Aotian shook his head. "I'm much older than you."

"How is that possible? Can humans live for a hundred thousand years?" Xiao Wu's face was full of disbelief.

Xiao Wu's mother joked, "From what I know, powerful Titled Douluo can live for several hundred years, and a Level Ninety-Nine Peerless Douluo can live for about a thousand years at most. Mr. Ao, you say you're older than us. Could it be that you aren't human either?"

"You guessed right. I am indeed not human," Aotian said with a laugh.

Xiao Wu's eyes shot wide open. She gasped, "Could it be that you're like us? A 100,000-year Soul Beast that underwent humanoid transformation?"

With a thought from Aotian, two dragon horns suddenly sprouted from his forehead, and a single golden dragon scale appeared in the center.

A faint pressure emanated from him, causing the color to drain from the faces of Xiao Wu and her mother in an instant.

Aotian's smile vanished. He said faintly, "I am not human, nor am I a Soul Beast. I am of the Ancient Dragon Race."

The bodies of Xiao Wu and her mother couldn't help but tremble. Even the Azure Bull Python and Titan Giant Ape outside were the same, finding it difficult to withstand Aotian's pressure.

Facing Aotian, they felt just as a low-level Soul Beast would feel facing them—as if they were gazing up at a mountain ten thousand zhang high.

Seeing that Xiao Wu and her mother were about to collapse and kneel, Aotian finally withdrew the trace of pressure he had released.

Xiao Wu's eyes were still filled with deep dread, her body still trembling slightly.

That pressure just now had been too terrifying; it was as if she had been facing a god.

Xiao Wu's mother pulled her to her feet. They bowed and said in terror, "Greetings, Senior."

This was the first time Aotian had revealed his identity to anyone other than Bibi Dong. He did so only because they were Soul Beasts.
