Chapter 39
Chapter 39: Reunion
Ordinary horses couldn't enter the Star Dou Great Forest, but the Dragon Horse, which had already evolved into a Soul Beast, could.
The Dragon Horse carried Aotian and Xiao Wu into the forest, moving as if on level ground, its speed barely decreasing.
However, Aotian and Xiao Wu could still feel that the ride was a bit bumpier.
There were already Soul Masters deep inside the forest. Aotian's divine sense could see that two Titled Douluo were leading the way at the very front.
After entering the forest, the Dragon Horse headed in a different direction, breaking away from the Soul Master teams up ahead.
"This way is a shortcut," Aotian explained.
"How do you know?" Xiao Wu asked, curious.
"I saw it," Aotian said, patting the horse's flank. "Time to fly."
The Dragon Horse excitedly unfurled its wings and took flight. Aotian and Xiao Wu no longer felt any bumps.
Now that she was back in the forest, the tension in Xiao Wu's heart eased considerably.
Aotian said, "At the speed those people are moving, they'll need until nightfall to arrive. Besides, it's not wise to fight at night, so they'll definitely find a relatively safe place to spend the night and make their move tomorrow. You don't need to worry."
Xiao Wu nodded, realizing she had been worrying too much.
At this moment, with her mood no longer so tense, the atmosphere suddenly turned a little ambiguous.
Feeling Aotian's warm legs pressed against her, Xiao Wu's pretty face grew redder and redder.
But under the circumstances, she couldn't bring herself to say anything.
Aotian didn't have such complicated thoughts as Xiao Wu. After all, in his eyes, she was just a little girl, and he simply found her cute.
His gaze swept over their surroundings. Flying through the forest on horseback was a new experience, and not without its own kind of fun.
He wasn't in a hurry anyway. Otherwise, he could have reached Xiao Wu's mother's location with a single thought.
Suddenly, he frowned slightly and looked at Xiao Wu in front of him. "What's wrong with you? Why is your body so hot?"
Xiao Wu shifted forward a little and said in a small voice, "I... I don't know."
Aotian was a little speechless. He could tell that the little girl was probably just shy.
The Dragon Horse sped along like the wind. Whenever it began to tire, Aotian would inject a trace of Dragon Energy into its body, instantly revitalizing it.
All the soul beasts in their path were scared away by a sliver of the pressure Aotian released. Finally, around two or three in the afternoon, they approached the small lake where Xiao Wu's mother resided.
In the small lake, a massive bull's head breached the surface, its long, thick body swaying beneath the water. This was the other, unknown overlord of the Star Dou Great Forest—the Azure Bull Python.
Beside the lake, the Titan Giant Ape, whose body was the size of a small mountain, sat on the grass, its gaze respectful as it looked down.
In front of it stood a beautiful woman with hair draped over her shoulders, appearing to be around thirty years old, named Tu Baobao.
"Aunt Bao, I think we should leave this place first. Those detestable human Soul Masters have already entered the forest and could find us at any moment," the Titan Giant Ape said.
Its voice was deep, like the rumbling of muffled thunder.
The Azure Bull Python said, "Leave? Where can we go? The Star Dou Great Forest is only so big. It's not like you don't know how greedy those human Soul Masters are. As long as we're in this forest, we'll be found by them sooner or later."
"Big Brother, what do you suggest we do then?" the Titan Giant Ape asked.
The Azure Bull Python said coldly, "Prepare for battle. We'll kill as many as they send. If they want to kill Aunt Bao, they'll have to step over our dead bodies first."
"Then let's fight them to the death! All humans deserve to die!" Its lantern-sized eyes flickered with a crazed killing intent.
Tu Baobao sighed. "I appreciate your good intentions, but there are far more human powerhouses than we soul beasts. If many Titled Douluo come this time, not only me, but even you two will be in danger. I think I should just leave the Star Dou Great Forest to avoid implicating you."
"Aunt Bao, your injuries haven't healed yet. It will be very dangerous for you to enter the human world again," the Azure Bull Python said urgently.
Tu Baobao said, "You don't need to persuade me anymore. I watched you both grow up; you are like my own children. How could I let you walk into danger?"
"Besides, if I stay here, greedy Soul Masters will keep coming. They won't rest until they've killed me. No matter how strong you are, you can't protect me forever. Only by hiding in the human world do I have a sliver of a chance to survive."
The Titan Giant Ape said anxiously, "Aunt Bao, believe me, Big Brother and I can protect you. Once you enter the human world, if you encounter danger and we aren't by your side, who will be there to protect you?"
"Er Ming, Aunt Bao is right." The Azure Bull Python's voice became much deeper. "No matter how strong we are, we can't fend off so many blood-crazed Soul Masters. It's actually more dangerous for Aunt Bao to stay here."
Tu Baobao looked at Da Ming with relief. "Then it's decided. A few days ago, those Soul Masters fled in the direction of the Heaven Dou Empire, so they must be from there. You two will protect me as I leave in a different direction."
"Alright."
The surface of the lake began to churn as a monster with the head of a bull and the body of a snake, over thirty meters long, crawled out.
Its massive bull head was over four meters in diameter, and its entire body was covered in dark green scales that emanated an oppressive aura.
"Someone is approaching quickly," Da Ming said, his bull head snapping to look in one direction.
That direction was towards the Heaven Dou Empire.
This was their territory; normally, no soul beast would dare to enter. Therefore, the ones approaching had to be human Soul Masters.
Er Ming stood up straight. It resembled both an ape and a chimpanzee, entirely black except for its earthen-yellow eyes.
After standing up, its body was immense. The bulging muscles on its body were like small hills, containing unimaginable, ferocious power.
"Tear them apart," Er Ming growled.
The beautiful woman, Tu Baobao, quickly moved to stand behind Er Ming.
Because the soul beast auras of Xiao Wu and the Dragon Horse were concealed by Aotian, Da Ming and Er Ming couldn't detect that soul beasts were approaching.
Otherwise, they would have likely sensed Xiao Wu not long after she entered the forest.
Their eyes widened as they saw a white phantom weaving through the gaps between the trees, rapidly approaching their location.
Atop the white phantom were two small figures.
"It's Sister Xiao Wu," Da Ming exclaimed in pleasant surprise.
"Roar, roar..." Er Ming let out an excited roar, pounding its chest forcefully.
"Da Ming, Er Ming!" Xiao Wu shouted excitedly. After the Dragon Horse rushed to the lakeside, she stood up and leaped forward.
Da Ming lowered his bull head, catching Xiao Wu on top of it.
Xiao Wu stroked Da Ming's head and shouted excitedly, "Da Ming, Er Ming, I missed you guys so much!"
Er Ming's head leaned in as well, letting Xiao Wu's small hand stroke him. He squinted his massive eyes, a look of pure enjoyment on his face.
"Xiao Wu." Xiao Wu's mother, Tu Baobao, walked out from behind Er Ming.
"Mom!" Xiao Wu cried out in delight, leaping down from Da Ming's head and into her mother's arms.
Da Ming and Er Ming's gazes fell upon Aotian, a hint of confusion in their eyes.
"Why is there a human kid?" Da Ming said.
"This little pipsqueak isn't even enough to fill the gaps between my teeth." Er Ming brought its head close to Aotian and opened its massive mouth, revealing a ferocious expression.
Aotian immediately held his breath, unable to stand the intense bad breath, and slapped out with his palm.
With a resounding bang, his palm never touched the Titan Giant Ape's body, yet the Titan Giant Ape was sent flying, crashing into the lake...
