A voice like a low murmur suddenly echoed through all the places in the Multiverse covered by Darkness, as if a terrifying deity had just been awakened, its unconscious whispers drifting out from a hazy state.
This was a whisper filled with extreme destruction and desolate silence. For any living being who heard this voice, it meant they had been chosen by Death.
The whisper even pierced through Tony's mind, setting off a tempest within him. His expression changed drastically as he mobilized his three Mother Boxes to crash against and block Nekron's attack before immediately turning to flee for his life.
Flee!
He had to flee at top speed!
If he didn't leave now, he would truly die!
Alarm bells blared in his heart, and his sixth sense began to scream frantically. With a grim face, Tony commanded the Mother Boxes to smash a path forward, blasting open the veil of darkness in a desperate escape.
Tony swore this was the greatest crisis he had ever encountered, and one where he had no choice but to flee in such a sorry state.
In the past, he had toyed with Mr. Mxyzptlk, fought Trigon, devoured visitors from the Editorial Department, banished Doomsday, come face-to-face with Death, and forced Darkseid to retreat. Tony had faced numerous powerful enemies in major events at the Multiverse level, but he had always managed to get through them safely using various methods.
As for enemies like Amatsu-Mikaboshi and Steppenwolf's clone, who couldn't even reach Level Eight, they weren't even worth mentioning.
Yet none of these past foes had become a stumbling block to his progress. On the contrary, Tony had used every ounce of his strength to overcome each crisis.
To be fair, if Tony hadn't been there for the past twenty years, bracing himself to stand against one Old God after another, the Prime Universe would have been rebooted countless times, and Earth, at the very least, would have been destroyed many times over.
But this time was different. This time, facing Nekron, Tony had encountered his greatest crisis yet—he might actually die!
"Damn it, what the hell is going on!"
Tony was a mixture of shock and fury, on the verge of cursing out loud!
100%!
Nekron had finished charging. He now possessed the ability to roam the Multiverse at will in his true body, no longer confined to this small death planet.
"How is this possible? Even if he slaughtered all the living beings in countless universes, including the Prime Universe, he couldn't have gathered enough hearts and death energy this fast!"
Tony ducked wretchedly, narrowly dodging a swing of Nekron's scythe and once again using a Mother Box to parry the weapon.
"Much faster than I expected..."
Nekron said in a low voice. His entire being had already left its original position, silently following behind Tony. He was no longer fixed to a single spot as before.
Just moments ago, Nekron had suddenly received a massive amount of energy, pushing his reserves to a critical point and finally allowing him to break free from his shackles.
With a cold expression, Tony touched the half of his body that had been ensnared by the surging power of Darkness. The sense of crisis from within his body felt like countless fine needles stabbing him viciously.
Nekron looked down, his enormous body moving silently through the Darkness. His wide, black cape hung behind him like a solid rock, and the scythe in his hand began to transform, becoming even more sinister and chillingly oppressive.
Tony's expression shifted; he felt incredibly small before Nekron.
Even though Tony was a unique god of noble status, concepts like nobility and inferiority might have a suppressive effect on other beings, but to Nekron... they made no difference.
They were all going to be killed anyway. There was no difference at all.
"It's surprising you've lasted this long," Nekron's gaze was profound. "I'm even more surprised you can control the Mother Boxes so freely... Yuga Khan would probably be driven mad if he knew."
Tony's face was grim. After a moment of silence, he finally sighed and held out a hand, presenting the Mother Boxes.
"I didn't want to use this trump card, but you forced my hand!"
Tony whispered, his tone filled with grim resolve.
Nekron's eyes shifted slightly. His body abruptly vanished, reappearing before Tony in the next instant. In this moment, he was omnipresent. Wherever there was life, the shadow of death would follow, and so too would Nekron's attentive gaze.
Tony gritted his teeth and roared, "Nekron, you forced me to do this! You'll regret it!"
His ferocious face showed his readiness to risk it all.
Nekron remained expressionless as he swung his scythe, and the dark world converged.
Tony sneered. The three Mother Boxes slammed into each other at a speed faster than light. Dazzling white lightning coalesced into an ocean, illuminating a swath of Darkness and tearing through the limits of time and space.
The moment the scythe descended, Tony clenched his jaw, braced himself to take the blow, and dove headfirst into a Boom Tube.
"Running away...? You can't escape. Wherever you run, I can..."
Nekron was just about to follow Tony into the Boom Tube to finish off this weak, unique god and dig out his fresh heart—or perhaps his godhood, which would be a treasure even to Nekron.
But then he seemed to sense something and stopped in his tracks, quietly watching the Boom Tube slowly fade away.
Of course, this "slowly fading" was faster than the speed of light to others, but it was nothing to Nekron. He wasn't afraid of Tony escaping, because he could have instantly entered the Boom Tube to lock onto Tony's trail.
But now... Nekron stood still for a moment, a subtle ripple in his eyes, and ultimately decided not to give chase.
"Earth... I can feel he has an even stronger clone there... Creatures like these unique gods are the hardest to kill..." Nekron murmured.
The Scarred Guardian silently emerged from the Darkness, watching Nekron. "Why not pursue him? He has been the savior in many past crises. He's a big problem."
Nekron ignored the Scarred Guardian, stepping off the death planet and flying towards Earth.
From a god's-eye view, one would see an indomitable Darkness, like a cosmic tsunami, covering everything in Nekron's path!
...
Apokolips.
Darkseid angrily smashed the wine cup in his hand.
The good mood he had been in from creating a passable makeshift army of Doomsdays vanished the moment he saw Tony.
Not only that, but his mood turned sour.
He sat on his throne, the wine brewed from treasures collected from the many realms of the Sphere of the Gods flowing at his feet. His gray, rock-like, massive body now leaned slightly forward, looking at Tony, who was almost cut in two and struggling to heal.
"It seems you've run into some serious trouble." Darkseid looked down, the Omega Effect surging in his eyes. After a quick scan of Tony's condition, he said indifferently, "Your godhood is shattered. You're about to die."
