Chapter 772: Blackest Night!
As the first energy beings to be influenced by the White Light of Creation, the seven of them developed their own emotions after a harrowing escape from the Darkness, connecting to the Emotional Spectrum.
After the White Light of Creation beat Nekron until he was forced into slumber, it too became overly weakened and devolved into the Life Entity, subsequently falling into a long slumber as well.
Only the seven Lantern Entities remained.
Then, these seven were not content to be idle. The first to make a move was Ophidian. The great serpent set its sights on the greatly weakened Proselyte, wanting to swallow it whole.
Ion had survived because Proselyte had amputated its own limbs to repair Ion's body. It owed Proselyte the greatest debt and would naturally not allow such a thing to happen, so it began to fight with Ophidian.
The Butcher, Ion's hot-tempered big brother, hadn't even recovered from his injuries, but he couldn't stand by while his little bro was in trouble. Without a second thought, he rolled up his sleeves and helped Ion beat down Ophidian.
Adara, the leader of the group, flapped its wings, desperately trying to mediate from the sidelines, shouting, "Stop fighting! Stop fighting!" But it didn't do a single thing, seemingly enjoying the spectacle more than anyone.
Meanwhile, Proselyte had been invaded by the Darkness after extending too many of its tentacles into it to rescue the other Lantern Entities. A large number of its tentacles had become necrotic, forcing it to amputate them. Its will was in disarray and its spirit was damaged. The most direct consequence was that its intellect regressed to a childlike state, leaving it to stare dumbfoundedly as its companions fought amongst themselves, completely at a loss.
The Predator, on the other hand, was completely uninterested in the battle. Its mind was entirely focused on Proselyte. It flew back and forth around Proselyte, yearning for "love"—not the romantic love between a man and a woman, but a feeling with a much broader meaning.
As for Parallax, seeing the other Lantern Entities start fighting, it was scared off immediately.
After that, First Lantern Volthoom made contact with the Guardians of the Universe. The two sides shared the Emotional Spectrum, and then came the birth of the Anti-Matter Universe, the Manhunters, the Green Lantern Corps, the Sinestro War, the Spectrum War...
The relationship between the seven Lantern Entities and the Life Entity was extremely close; each of them carried fragments of the Life Entity's information. And a god like Tony was extremely sensitive to information aggregates. It wouldn't be difficult for him to scrape the information aggregates from the seven Lantern Entities.
A series of rumbles echoed. As the last one, Proselyte, was thrown onto Cybertron, the seven Lantern Entities were finally reunited after a long age.
Warm reunions were a minor detail; settling old scores was the main event.
Parallax watched Ion and the other Lantern Entities with wary apprehension. Ion glared at Ophidian with ill-intent. Ophidian stared greedily at the naive Proselyte. Proselyte looked innocently at the Predator, but the Predator was just circling it excitedly. The hot-tempered Butcher stood protectively in front of Ion. Adara flew back and forth in the sky, looking thrilled, though no one knew what it was anticipating...
The relationships between these seven were too complicated, far too complicated...
Proselyte, sensing the tense atmosphere, gave a dry cough and whispered, "Compassion brings us together. Compassion lets us..."
"Shut up!"
A group of Lantern Entities roared in unison.
Proselyte shrank back and mumbled, "The Predator taught me that line..."
The Predator continued to circle Proselyte, its gaze full of affection.
This tangled web of relationships was truly a headache, and this was only what had happened since the arrival of the White Light of Creation. If one were to account for the endless cycle of them murdering and resurrecting each other in the Darkness, their grudges and affections would be even more impossible to untangle.
To be honest, for them, meeting again like this made being captured by Tony seem like a trivial matter. The worst that could happen was a bit of suffering or being killed, which was of little consequence to these seven. After all, they couldn't truly die.
Their internal conflicts and grudges were one thing, but the strange and oppressive atmosphere in the Prime Universe was the real crisis.
These seven Lantern Entities had decisively seized their chance to become energy beings free from the shackles of the Darkness; none of them were fools—with the exception of the current Proselyte. They could all feel the terrifying shadow lurking at the edge of the world.
What was even more suffocating was that the shadow seemed to be spreading toward them at an alarming speed, making the seven Lantern Entities agitated and uneasy.
Tony descended from the sky, looking down coldly at the seven massive creatures.
"What in the world do you want! It's useless even if you kill us! At worst, we'll just kill ourselves!" Parallax shrieked, curling its body into a ball.
Tony gave it an expressionless glance. "If any of the other Lantern Entities said that, I might believe it. But you... forget it."
Parallax writhed, appearing somewhat agitated.
The other six Lantern Entities also watched Tony uneasily, their eyes filled with vigilance.
Tony faced them from a distance, slowly extending a hand. He said in a deep voice, "You have something I want. Give it to me now."
...
While Tony was making his move on the seven Lantern Entities, battles were breaking out with increasing frequency in other parts of the Prime Universe.
Starscream took on the important role of being a troublemaker, roaming the universe with Larfleeze and stirring up flames everywhere. He clashed with Ganthet, Saint Walker, and the others, forcing the Blue Lantern Corps completely into the open and further agitating the Emotional Spectrum before making a swift withdrawal.
Not long after, Sinestro led the Yellow Lantern Corps in an attack on the Indigo Tribe. Starscream then seized the opportunity to strike at the Star Sapphires, dragging the Star Sapphires into the war...
The entire Seven Lantern Corps was in chaos, with conflicts breaking out everywhere. The only difference was that some fought bloody battles out of hatred and selfish desires, while others, sharing a common purpose, had a tacit understanding and were merely going through the motions.
From the moment the last of them, the Star Sapphires, were dragged into the fray by the instigator Starscream, everything was set in stone.
With the entry of the Star Sapphires, the Spectrum War escalated to an unprecedented level. The energy bands of the seven emotional spectrums, encompassing the colors of visible light, began to vibrate at an astonishing rate. These terrifying fluctuations spread continuously, eventually expanding from the Emotional Spectrum into the real world, and from the Prime Universe to the entire multiverse.
A great sense of oppression suddenly appeared, like a heavy weight pressing down on the hearts of everyone in existence. Yet, no matter how they searched, they could not find the source of this oppressive feeling.
The eyes of the Darkness began to slowly open in the dead silence. The chaotic war of the Seven Lanterns was the catalyst for its awakening.
The Scarred Guardian, who was fighting in coordination with the other Guardians, suddenly stopped. With a blank expression, she broke away from her four companions and flew off at high speed. No matter how the other four called out to her, the Scarred Guardian did not respond.
On the other side of the universe, Ganthet's face was ashen. He quickly ordered Saint Walker, "Mobilize the Blue Lantern Corps immediately! I will contact the others. We must face this crisis together!"
Sayd said with a cold expression, "I just want to see how that New God plans to clean up this colossal mess he's made!"
On Cybertron, Tony suddenly raised his head. He quietly watched the sun, which had imperceptibly dimmed, and after a moment of silence, he whispered, "It's starting..."
The Blackest Night has fallen!
