Chapter 771: The Birth of the Lantern Entities, the Light of Creation
Updates from the various teams were continuously being sent back to Cybertron. So far, the most difficult fight was being waged by Hal of the Yellow Lantern Corps. Aside from Hal, none of the combatants had reached the Demigod Tier, so the battle against Ophidian, the Orange Lantern, was taking a little more time.
As for the other Lantern Entities, they were all being assaulted by terrifyingly powerful enemies capable of crushing them.
But there was one exception: Proselyte, the Lantern Entity of the Indigo Tribe.
This peculiar, tentacled Lantern Entity had encountered some mishaps when it used the power of the Light of Creation to escape Nekron's influence, resulting in its low intelligence and lack of wisdom.
The Kryptonian Legion, the first to track down Proselyte, was now surrounding it. They could only look at each other helplessly as they observed it.
"The world needs compassion. You are all products of compassion."
"Charity starts with you and me. The world becomes a better place when we all help each other."
"Have you done your good deed for the day?"
Proselyte waved its tentacles, slapping a nearby Kryptonian soldier and sending the man flying.
"See? I told you to be compassionate. Why are you still so angry?"
Proselyte squirmed its massive body, its tentacles flailing, as it spoke with profound pity to the Kryptonian soldier who had just been inexplicably struck.
The Kryptonian soldier trembled with rage, his eyes turning red. His Heat Vision was on the verge of erupting.
He couldn't take it anymore.
Ever since they had tracked this behemoth down, Proselyte hadn't fought them. Instead, it had been generously showering the area with its Compassion Energy, turning the entire star system a dazzling indigo.
In Proselyte's own words, this was generosity born from compassion, and there was no need to thank it.
Proselyte just kept babbling, refusing to fight the Kryptonian Legion. Even when a soldier attacked it, it would just widen its eyes, look at its attacker with immense grievance, and then… continue babbling.
Its most outrageous action was to occasionally swat a soldier and then lecture them on how to maintain a compassionate heart.
"Rage is the nemesis of compassion," Proselyte said quietly, carefully eyeing the soldier who wanted to attack it with Heat Vision, lowering its voice to a soft babble.
All the soldiers stared blankly at Hant.
Hant's face was dark as he looked at the giant creature before him, a headache brewing.
"Come back with me, and we won't hurt you," Hant said, his face grim.
Proselyte whispered, "You are not yet compassionate. I won't go with you."
Hant covered his face, groaning in frustration.
If he had a choice, he would much rather face a Lantern Entity like the Butcher, which attacked on sight, than deal with one that wouldn't fight back, wouldn't talk back, and insisted on reasoning with you.
"The Proselyte recorded in the database was clearly a young child. How did it become so…" Hant groaned.
Did it grow up?
After thinking for a moment with a dark expression, Hant waved his hand. A group of Kryptonian soldiers menacingly surrounded Proselyte, grabbed the big creature, and simply dragged it away.
Whether Proselyte had taken some strange medicine or had been like this from the beginning was not within Hant's consideration. He only cared about the mission.
"In the end, my team turned out to be the slowest one."
Hant received a message from Cybertron through the device on his arm. Seeing that the other Lantern Entities had been beaten half to death and brought back to Cybertron, he couldn't help but sigh.
At this moment in the Prime Universe, many more members of the various corps were casting a wide net, tracking the whereabouts of the Lantern Entities. Hant intercepting Proselyte meant the mission was complete.
"I originally thought Proselyte would be in the Indigo Tribe's Central Staff, but I didn't expect it to be roaming free."
After receiving the news of Hant's successful capture, Tony couldn't help but nod.
The Indigo Tribe was different from the other corps; they didn't use a Power Battery at all, but rather a staff-like object.
In Tony's original line of thought, Proselyte was both the easiest and the hardest Lantern Entity to capture. It was easy because this Lantern Entity's intelligence wasn't high, roughly equivalent to that of a human child. If you couldn't beat it, you could trick it. It was hard because Tony thought the Indigo Tribe had already captured Proselyte.
As it turned out, the Indigo Tribe had let the big creature roam free, showing no intention of looking after it carefully.
With this, the seven Lantern Entities of the emotional spectrum had all fallen into Tony's hands.
As the Lantern Entities were captured and brought to Cybertron one by one, these seven old friends met again after hundreds of millions of years. The reunion was extremely lively; arguments and brawls were their unique way of communicating, and emotional energy flew about wildly, making it quite a ruckus.
But these were all minor matters.
"With the seven Lantern Entities in hand, I can use them to sense the life energy of the Life Entity…"
Tony pondered, his expression grave as he felt the increasingly heavy and oppressive feeling in the universe.
These seven Lantern Entities had a close connection to the White Lantern. It was thanks to the White Lantern that these seven could escape Nekron's shadow and live independently and freely.
In ancient times, these beings, including the seven Lantern Entities and Nekron, were all members of the endless darkness. They were revived continuously in a frenzy of slaughter and devour, an infinite cycle.
This continued until a brilliant light from the Source Wall shattered the coldness of it all. All things in the world began to awaken from their eternal slumber and tranquility. Seven energy beings were awakened by this light, no longer immersed in aimless slaughter.
This white light was called the "Light of Creation."
And these seven energy beings, influenced by the white light, all fled while the Light of Creation was battling Nekron. Under the protection of the white light, they gained complete consciousness.
The first to break away from the darkness and chaos was Adara. When it arrived in the world of light, it felt safe and encouraged the others. It thus became the Lantern Entity of Hope, because it brought the most precious hope to other beings.
Proselyte was the second to escape. Seeing that the others were running too slowly, it felt compassion and reached out to pull the other five. Because of this, it became the first being to possess compassion, becoming the Lantern Entity of Compassion.
Next was Ophidian. Before it had even escaped, it was incredibly jealous of Adara and Proselyte, who had successfully broken free, even though Adara had encouraged it and Proselyte had helped it. This greedy serpent wanted to become a being as powerful as Adara and Proselyte. It was the first being to feel greed, thus becoming the Lantern Entity of Greed.
Then came Parallax. As this great insect was about to break free, the clash between the Light of Creation and Nekron was at its most intense. It was terrified, and fear filled its mind. Parallax thus became the Lantern Entity of Fear.
The Predator was the fifth to escape. Although it felt Nekron's oppressive might and was also attacked by other terrifying creatures in the darkness, it broke free with Proselyte's help. It therefore felt love and became the Lantern Entity of Love.
The unluckiest was Ion. It was the sixth to escape. In the process, an energy being from the darkness bit off half its body, leaving it on the verge of death. It was the tentacles Proselyte reached into the darkness to rescue it that saved it. Although those tentacles necrotized from exposure to the darkness, they were grafted onto the part of Ion that had been bitten off, allowing Ion to survive.
Because of this, Ion developed unyielding Willpower and became the Lantern Entity of Willpower.
The last survivor was the hot-tempered fellow, the Butcher. It was right behind Ion and flew into a rage after witnessing its plight. It struggled madly, headbutting a dark creature out of the way. With Proselyte's help, it finally entered the light, covered in wounds.
Thus, the seven Lantern Entities were born. They were the lucky ones.
Many more dark energy beings were unfortunate; almost all of them died in the aftershocks of the War of Light and Death.
