Chapter 720: Supreme Lanterns Deploy

2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit

The situation changed too quickly, greatly enraging the Guardians, who were accustomed to stability — although only Ganthet among them could feel anger, Sayd to a lesser extent, while the other five were emotionless machines driven by self-interest.

Were it not for their insufficient strength, the Guardians would have used their most practiced methods to deal with unstable factors: first to win them over, then to target their weaknesses to suppress them, and finally to utterly destroy them.

They had done this for the past ten billion years. Few who cooperated with them ever came to a good end; once their value was squeezed dry, they would be ruthlessly abandoned.

This was also one of the reasons Sinestro was determined to kill the Guardians. In the comics, Sinestro succeeded, virtually torturing all the Guardians to death to vent his rage.

Only Ganthet and Sayd barely survived.

Cruelly tortured and murdered by their once extremely respected and trusted loyal dog, Sinestro, the Guardians should actually rest in peace. This was only fair.

"Our Legion has wavered. A large number of elite Green Lanterns have fallen, and the newly recruited Green Lanterns are completely unable to fill the void in combat power."

"Deploy the Supreme Lanterns!"

Several Guardians exchanged glances, and the Power Rings in their seven hands simultaneously lit up, transforming into seven light pillars that opened a sealed door.

More than a dozen "life forms," their bodies, inside and out, filled with brilliant green light, walked out with expressionless faces.

These so-called beings, whose eyes had lost focus and from whose depths green light surged outwards, had already lost the most basic emotions of a life form.

A normal Green Lantern merely used their Power Ring to don a translucent Green Lantern battle suit, but these Supreme Lanterns radiated the green light of Willpower from their very bones.

They were augmented living "robots," the ultimate living weapons the Guardians had researched for so many years.

To put it plainly, the birth of the Supreme Lanterns was also due to the Guardians' distrust of the Green Lantern Corps, leading them to create these living machines.

Cold beings unaffected by emotional factors were the most controllable tools and the only way to skillfully use the Green Lantern Rings while still maintaining the characteristics of life.

Originally, the Guardians intended to use the Supreme Lanterns as a supervisory team and enforcement squad, not allowing them to supersede the Green Lantern Corps unless absolutely necessary.

But now, the Green Lanterns, burdened by the Yellow Impurity, were fighting an extremely arduous battle. Even if a rare few excellent individuals overcame the effects of the Yellow Impurity with strong Willpower, the majority of Green Lanterns were still being ravaged and suppressed by Sinestro's Legion, their combat power heavily suppressed.

"Worrix, kill all Yellow Lantern Ring wielders blocking your path, then destroy their Yellow Lantern Rings!" Sayd commanded with an icy expression.

Worrix looked at the seven Guardians with an expressionless face, bending slightly at the waist: "I willingly obey your will."

Ganthet said, "I want you to preserve at least one Yellow Lantern Ring. This item needs to be sealed on Oa. We can study the operating principles of the Yellow Lantern Ring."

Worrix, a living robot whose appearance was extremely similar to Earthlings, nodded coldly and slowly raised his right arm.

The dozen or so Supreme Lanterns behind him simultaneously revealed their respective Lantern Rings, the Green Lantern Rings on their limbs emitting an excessively dazzling green light that caused unease.

"Bright lands, vast seas of war.
Discipline and law, upheld until death.
Transgression and deviation, shall be judged in court.
Before my oath, the Divine Light of the Supreme."

"The Supreme Lanterns will judge all sinners, giving them the most just punishment."

"Sinestro's Legion is utterly heinous; for every Lantern Ring wielder who spreads fear, prison and death are their only destinations."

Worrix coldly stated, then led the Supreme Lanterns behind him into the sky, fearlessly charging into the war-torn interstellar battlefield.

The seven Guardians watched indifferently as the Supreme Lanterns transformed into a dozen shooting stars, exchanged glances, then raised their heads again, waiting for the results.

...

The Supreme Lanterns were indeed extraordinary. Their Power Rings were also unique; as a major sub-category of Lantern Rings, the Supreme Lantern Rings were almost specifically developed for living robots, possessing the ability to control the Lantern Rings of all Green Lantern Corps members. If they wished, they could lock any Green Lantern's Power Ring at any time.

Even more terrifying was their combat power. Their emotionless, semi-mechanical bodies could instantly calculate the optimal solution, allowing the Supreme Lanterns to mercilessly kill without burden.

The only ones who could restrict them were the Guardians.

Facts proved that these mere dozen Supreme Lanterns caused significant trouble for Sinestro's Legion.

The instant the two sides clashed, dozens of Yellow Lanterns were instantly killed, their corpses shattered and drifting in space.

The Yellow Lantern Rings scrambled to fly away, searching for new warriors, but they were quickly intercepted by the Supreme Lanterns. Over twenty Yellow Lantern Rings were destroyed, with only a few successfully escaping.

The Supreme Lanterns, born for battle, attacking ordinary Yellow Lanterns was simply like an unstoppable force.

"Those Power Rings..." Sinestro's expression was cold, his eyes fixed on these strange beings who had suddenly charged into the battlefield. Although some of their faces had changed greatly, Sinestro still recognized them.

The more he looked, the colder his heart became.

"Guardians, you actually... even your last shred of pretense has been torn away. How ironic!" Sinestro suddenly wanted to burst into laughter.

Abin Sur was right; Abin Sur had warned him long ago that the Guardians were not to be trusted, even providing evidence. But at that time, Sinestro thought Abin Sur was mad for suspecting the impartial Guardians.

It turned out that he, Sinestro, was the fool. The long-dead Abin Sur was right.

But it was already too late.

"I will destroy this planet, utterly destroy the Green Lantern Corps! A Legion ruled by hypocritical beings has long since rotted from the inside out."

Sinestro crossed his arms, floating indifferently in space, surrounded by countless warriors battling each other, yet he alone remained at ease.

"Duzun, Kal-El, formidable foes for both of you have arrived. Kill these guys," Sinestro said, pointing at the Supreme Lanterns who were slaughtering relentlessly.

These Supreme Lanterns were slaughtering Yellow Lanterns with extremely high efficiency. Willpower and Fear are mutually restraining. When a group of Supreme Lanterns, born for battle, entered the fray, not only did they lack the Yellow Impurity, but they were also immune to the effects of the Power of Fear, allowing the power of Willpower to be greatly unleashed.

Superboy-Prime sneered, effortlessly tearing the Green Lantern in front of him into two halves, his guts and organs splattering all over him.

"I'm not following your orders; I'm just interested in these guys!" Superboy-Prime's face was ferocious, a longing for wanton slaughter, pure bloodlust, an enjoyment of ending lives, establishing Superboy-Prime's terrifying reputation.

"I, Supreme Superman, claim those Power Rings!!!"
