Chapter 719

Chapter 703: Phoenix Force

2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit

Thane was actually very powerful. This mixed-blood Inhuman was born far superior to many of his peers, possessing not only superhuman physical qualities but also the ability to emit different cosmic rays from his hands.

His left hand projected a death beam, and his right a confinement cube.

These were Thane's innate superpowers; upon Awakening, he stood at a level countless people longed to reach.

But as the saying goes, whether one is powerful or not depends on who they're compared to. Pitting an undeveloped Thane against Grail made him seem like absolute trash.

When Grail killed Ebony Maw, she also eliminated many of his subordinates. It was only after she temporarily sensed the considerable power and potential within Thane that she spared him, subsequently becoming his boss.

"We shouldn't passively wait for opportunities; we should actively seek power," Thane said somewhat reservedly. "Since the New Gods can contend with Ancient Deities, they naturally have the ability to oppose your father. He won't care about your pleas for help."

"You're right, but what does that matter?"

Grail drained her drink, a melancholic expression on her face. "Elsewhere, I always receive the highest treatment. As soon as I declare my identity, I'm either accorded the highest courtesy or subjected to relentless pursuit... But only here do few people care about the daughter of Darkseid. I'm merely someone's daughter."

Thane whispered, "The more powerful one is, the less inclination they have to care about meaningless gestures... They don't even care about Darkseid, so of course they won't care about Darkseid's daughter."

Bang!

Grail irritably smashed her wine glass, drawing many side glances. But upon realizing it was the formidable Grail, they tacitly averted their gaze simultaneously. No one dared to cause trouble.

Many had provoked Grail, but many had also died.

Thane hesitated for a moment, then quietly said, "I do have an idea. Ebony Maw told me something when he was still alive..."

"Major news! Major news!"

In the noisy bar, a dusty and travel-worn fellow burst in, roaring hoarsely and interrupting the bar's atmosphere.

A group of cutthroat Mercenaries and Bounty Hunters looked over cruelly.

"Hey, look who it is! I know him, a Kree, a war correspondent by profession."

"Did an Insect Swarm rebel somewhere again? I just made a fortune; I don't need to fight desperately with bugs anytime soon."

The Kree swallowed a mouthful of saliva and shouted, "Major news! The Spectre has been crushed by the New Gods!"

The entire bar's atmosphere froze, everyone staring at him blankly.

"Who is The Spectre???"

"Is this guy famous? Never heard of him."

The Kree shouted, "The Spectre is a formidable figure from the Outer Universe, said to be the strongest Spirit of Vengeance. He calls himself a Herald of God."

"A Spirit of Vengeance? I've heard of such beings. They supposedly appeared suddenly on Earth twenty thousand years ago and even defeated Archdemon Zarathos, who crossed over from Hell..."

"I've come up with a rule: anything related to Earth is a major event, and anything related to the New Gods ends miserably."

A group of drunken fellows roared with laughter.

The Spectre? Never heard of him.

The strongest Spirit of Vengeance? Who knows how many self-proclaimed strongest beings have been defeated. Didn't some guy claiming to be the strongest Demon in myths also fall a few years ago? He was defeated just the same, twice even.

As for the title of Herald of God... they just dismissed it as rubbish.

This group of people, residing on a Mercenary planet under the New Gods, naturally had overflowing pride. Gods who only existed in ancient myths meeting their demise one after another was far too common.

It was a common occurrence; surprise and terror for the first one or two times, but after a while, they grew numb to it.

"Where did you get this news?" Grail grabbed hold of the Kree, asking.

The Kree's head spun. Facing those blood-red, pupil-less, terrifying eyes, his scalp instantly prickled. "Many people detected the battle between the New Gods and The Spectre; it couldn't be hidden from the Interstellar civilizations!"

Grail expressionlessly dropped the terrified Kree, her brows furrowed tightly as a storm raged in her heart.

The entire bar's atmosphere returned to normal, and everyone continued their revelry.

Thane cautiously asked, "Is The Spectre very powerful?"

Grail frowned and said, "Not just powerful, but terrifying, perhaps even stronger than my father... I wonder what methods the New Gods used to defeat The Spectre."

Her knowledge and vision were far beyond what these Mercenaries, who had only ever roamed the Main Universe their entire lives, could imagine.

The Spectre's great renown made countless Ancient Deities wary. Grail had, of course, heard of him and even hoped The Spectre could avenge her.

But The Spectre was actually defeated, imprisoned by the New Gods...

An immense sense of urgency and unwillingness swelled in Grail's heart. She had fallen too far behind the New Gods.

By age, she was much older than the New Gods, but in terms of combat power, she couldn't even compare to them...

"If I had known this, I would never have left the Main Universe," Grail thought, filled with intense regret.

Thane cautiously glanced at the somewhat dejected Grail, then whispered, "I have an idea, it might be a chance to turn things around... Ebony Maw once told me a piece of news; he knew a clue to a Phoenix Fragment."

"Phoenix?" Grail raised her eyebrows, abruptly turning her head. "You have a clue to the Phoenix Force?"

"Of course! Ebony Maw once mentioned this power to me. He hoped I could master it someday," Thane said.

The Phoenix Force, Chaos Power, and Fey Force are three extremely powerful Forces, all capable of freely altering reality and distorting the illusory, renowned throughout the Multiverse. Ranking first among them is the Phoenix Force. To this day, no one has completely assembled the Phoenix Fragments, but even an Incomplete Version has demonstrated potential and combat power that has attracted the attention of countless beings.

Grail's eyes lit up, a flash of red light passing through them. If she could acquire the Phoenix Force, she might be able to master the power of vengeance herself!

"Where is it?! Where is the Phoenix Fragment?!" Grail demanded, looking at Thane.

...

Just as Grail and Thane were planning their search for the Phoenix Fragment, Tony had just suppressed the Dark Phoenix within Jean.

The rampaging power was suppressed by Tony in an even more forceful manner.

"Let me out!" The Dark Phoenix roared.

"Go back to sleep, have a good dream. You'll have everything in your dreams," Tony said calmly.

The Power of Singularity poured in, suppressing the Dark Phoenix.

Professor X's expression was incredibly grave. "I can no longer suppress the Phoenix. If this continues, Jean will be devoured."

Magneto said, "A decision must be made. Either completely expel the Phoenix Force, or find a way to eliminate the Dark Phoenix."
