Chapter 702: Grail: I Have a Dream
Grail repeatedly encountered setbacks on Cybertron.
It wasn't that anyone was deliberately targeting her; on the contrary, everyone was very tolerant, and their calm attitude made Grail a little exasperated.
As the Daughter of Darkseid, although Grail intensely detested her own father and dreamed of killing Darkseid, she had to admit that the identity of "Daughter of Darkseid" brought her great convenience. This status allowed her to access many people whom she wouldn't otherwise have the qualifications to approach on her own.
For many years, Grail had wandered the Multiverse, searching in one Universe after another for a powerful warrior capable of killing Darkseid. But it was too difficult, so difficult that Grail herself was starting to feel discouraged.
Trying to find a Multiversal Being in the Multiverse who possesses both the courage and strength to kill Darkseid's true self?
What a joke.
There were very few such Beings even in the Sphere of the Gods. Those with courage might not have the strength, and those with strength weren't willing to needlessly offend Apokolips, let alone the Multiverse, which served as a hunting ground for the Gods.
But when Grail arrived in the Prime Universe, when she reached Cybertron, everything changed.
For the first time, she saw hope, a glimmer of hope that Darkseid could be killed.
A New God, who had risen powerfully like a miracle, brought her an unprecedented dawn, allowing Grail to see the hope of revenge.
She felt a pang of regret. If she had known that such a terrifying New God would emerge from her homeland, she definitely wouldn't have foolishly gone exploring Other Universes. She would have simply stayed on Earth in the Prime Universe and befriended the New God when he was still in obscurity. Providing timely help is always the most precious.
Grail's mother was a female warrior from Themyscira, so Earth could truly be called her homeland.
But no matter how much Grail regretted it, she still had to face reality. She came to Warworld, a place that could be called a Mercenary's paradise, patiently searching for opportunities.
In any case, she carried Darkseid's Bloodline within her, possessing an endless lifespan, so she could afford to wait.
The entire Warworld was filled with a fervent atmosphere. Many blood-soaked Mercenaries dragged bug corpses to the trading market, and various shouts of hawkers rose and fell incessantly. The whole Warworld was plunged into a different kind of frenzy, and one could occasionally see dejected or beaming individuals.
Although Annihilus, leader of the Annihilation Wave, had been killed by Tony, hundreds of millions of bugs scattered across the Universe were still alive. The bugs would continue to multiply, which destined the war to continue and would take a huge amount of time.
Where there was war, there were opportunities, and where there were opportunities, the hyenas emerged. Mercenaries and Bounty Hunters were ecstatic.
Grail was not qualified to enter the main planet or its major companion planets. She could only remain on Warworld, trying to strike up conversations with the Cybertronian residents who appeared there, searching for an opportunity to meet the New God.
These days, her figure could be seen everywhere. Many people recognized this woman of astonishing origin, and using "Daughter of Darkseid" as a starting point for conversations and transactions always proved successful.
But when this approach was used in the Cybertronian Galaxy, things seemed to have undergone a slight change.
Perhaps it was due to the New God's protection, or perhaps it was related to the New God's series of formidable achievements, or even more likely, it was because the people here completely didn't understand the concepts of the Sphere of the Gods or Apokolips. In any case, some people were interested in Grail, but completely lacked the excited, fanatical emotion she encountered in Other Universes.
Whenever Grail spoke with someone, and they heard the phrase "Daughter of Darkseid," they would invariably be filled with awe: "Darkseid? Oh, oh, you are actually the Progeny of that legendary Tyrant, how truly remarkable."
"I am looking for powerful warriors," Grail would often say.
"Powerful warriors? Is Darkseid looking for Mercenaries? I'd be happy to take that job, as long as he can pay me a generous reward."
"Not him, it's me. I am looking for powerful warriors to fight for me."
"Then, Daughter of Darkseid, what are you looking for warriors for?"
"I want to kill Darkseid."
"...Goodbye!"
The conversation would end abruptly, and the Mercenary would flee the scene in a sorry state.
This frustrated Grail deeply; it was not what she had imagined.
Of course, she knew this bunch was not her ultimate target. She wanted to use this method to get Cybertron's High Council to contact her, and then grant her an opportunity to meet the New God.
But embarrassingly, no one paid her any attention. The entire Cybertron High Council was utterly unresponsive, showing no reaction at all to the signals she sent out everywhere.
Grail was distraught. This script was completely different from what she had imagined; something must have gone wrong somewhere.
"Boss, I think our method is wrong..." Thane, shrinking back timidly, mustered his courage and whispered a sentence, barely audible like a mosquito buzzing.
His gaze towards Grail was filled with deep fear and a hint of suppressed admiration.
"Hmm?" Grail chugged a glass of wine, her eerie, blood-red eyes with no pupils fixed on Thane. That casual glance alone made all Thane's words stick in his throat; he couldn't utter a single sound.
"Are you really Thanos's son? You can't even speak clearly," Grail impatiently cursed.
When she first arrived in the Prime Universe, she plundered everywhere to gather intelligence, seeking a way to enter the Cybertronian Galaxy. She ended up clashing with Ebony Maw, who had just found Thane. As a result, Ebony Maw was killed by her, and from then on, Thane acquired a new boss, following Grail.
Perhaps it was fate, perhaps destiny, but the Son of Thanos and the Daughter of Darkseid ending up together was astonishing.
Thane recoiled, not saying a word.
He deeply feared and admired Grail. Grail had wandered numerous Universes for many years, completely on a different level from Thane, who had only recently been coerced and enticed away from Earth by Ebony Maw.
Normally, Ebony Maw would have spent a great deal of time instilling his ideology into Thane's mind, gradually transforming Thane from a weakling into a strong-willed Powerhouse, and then tricking him into opposing Thanos. Ebony Maw would have happily watched the spectacle of father and son killing each other.
But that was no more. Ebony Maw was casually killed by Grail, and Thane, who hadn't yet been nurtured, was, to put it bluntly, just a timid child who had recently left home. His path had completely deviated.
A timid child whose core beliefs and values were not yet fully formed, encountering a strong-willed Boss like Grail — powerful in Combat Power, with an expansive worldview, terrifyingly experienced, and of astonishing origin — all of his advantages and pride were shattered beyond recognition. Thane naturally had no self-confidence to speak of.
His meager thoughts were completely dominated by the widely-experienced Grail.
Thane naturally grew more and more afraid to speak in front of the short-tempered Grail.
