Chapter 708

Chapter 692: Arrival

2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit

It's unclear what hatred exists between The Spectre and sorcerers. Perhaps it stems from his dealings with various magic-wielding individuals since his very genesis.

In the original works, The Spectre had once initiated a Purge against Earth's sorcerers, openly declaring his intention to eradicate magic as a power system. Now, having arrived in the Prime Universe and sensing something amiss, The Spectre has once again launched a Purge against Earth's Magical Community.

The Spectre sought to destroy all magical systems on Earth, tearing apart and utterly ruining everything that had been passed down for thousands of years.

One could only say that The Spectre had a strong aversion to sorcerers.

Shazam, the most powerful on Earth, bore the brunt of his assault.

"Magic is one of the easiest powers to learn and master, but precisely because of its ubiquity, it is also the most prone to spiraling out of control and causing immense disaster."

The Spectre crushed the light construct he had drawn from Shazam's body. With a bang, the power source accumulated over thousands of years was shattered by The Spectre. The instantly expanding power diffused, but in the terrifying hands of The Spectre, it immediately became docile and slowly dissipated.

Shazam leaned on his staff, laboriously rising from the ground, his gaze somber.

According to his plan, he would remain in the Rock of Eternity until a worthy successor appeared, to whom he would pass on his Shazam's power, allowing himself to pass away peacefully.

But now, he had lost even his last shred of hope to carry on.

"Presumptuous fool, you will bring disaster upon yourself," Shazam growled, spitting a mouthful of blood.

The Spectre said, "Everything I do is for the public good, to prevent an even more terrible disaster from occurring."

Shazam sneered, the old man who had lived for thousands of years was surprisingly enraged.

A glittering stone appeared in his palm. Then Shazam squeezed it with force, shattering it, and a message shot like lightning through the Rock of Eternity, being sent towards an unknown destination.

"Tony owes me a favor, and he hasn't repaid it yet." Shazam spat, a mouthful of blood landing on The Spectre. "Now it's time for him to pay his debt! I've seen too many like you, those who create disaster themselves in the name of preventing it. To many, you yourself are the greatest disaster!"

A flicker appeared in The Spectre's eyes, but it quickly subsided. He was silent for a moment, then said faintly, "If you insist on believing that... suit yourself."

"Where's your next target, Kamar-Taj?" Shazam grunted, laboriously sitting down on a chair.

The Spectre nodded silently.

When he destroyed Shazam's power, the exploding magical aftershocks were channeled more gently across the entire Earth, and had long since been detected by many sorcerers.

Most didn't understand why, but a select few knew the meaning of this power.

Including Kamar-Taj.

It was a silent declaration.

"Kamar-Taj... too bad. You won't get that chance. The one coming to collect his debt from you has arrived!"

Shazam extended his increasingly aged hand, pointing his index finger upwards.

Boom!

The entire Rock of Eternity suddenly trembled. A deafening roar erupted, and the Rock of Eternity, which had stood for countless years, was instantly blasted open with a massive breach.

Sand and stones flew everywhere. These stones, imbued with magic power for long ages and harder than steel, now became utterly fragile, more delicate than tofu.

A figure, filled with immense malice and ferocity, burst violently from the dark portal. His feet trod upon the azure Earth, and a True God's aura enveloped the Solar System. The movements of celestial bodies were subtly disturbed, gaining a touch of unsettling obscurity.

Countless people looked up at the sky in astonishment, a heart-pounding sensation from their very souls frequently assaulting their sanity. It felt as if they were directly facing a primeval monster.

"The Spectre, you're courting death!! You touched what shouldn't be touched!!!"

The black figure, carrying immense rage, descended with a thunderous roar as if a universe had fallen from the sky, arriving in Earth's vicinity and tearing through the Rock of Eternity's space-time.

With a single punch, the Rock of Eternity was forced to reveal itself from its hidden dimension. The wind-howling breach cast Tony's silhouette long and stark.

Tony tore off his black robes, an unprecedented grim expression on his face. When his gaze met the familiar figure confronting Shazam, a moment of stunned hesitation appeared, as if he was recalling and deliberating something.

Then, an even more astonishing rage and killing intent surged forth from his eyes.

Through the familiar host body, the inner essence had long since become unrecognizable. The old man before him had long been replaced.

And by the vilest method at that.

"Your habits are truly vile. With an Avenging Emissary like you, God should feel ashamed."

Tony's gaze shifted, pausing briefly on the dying Shazam, then skipping over Phantom Stranger, his fierce eyes fixed firmly on The Spectre.

The Spectre said solemnly, "He has no trivial emotions like 'humiliation', which only belong to mortals, nor will he feel rage at your words. But that does not give you reason to wantonly insult him."

"Insult? No, I'm merely speaking the truth. You are different from other Spirits of Vengeance; since your birth, you've enjoyed using others' corpses as host bodies. But now, you've touched someone you shouldn't have."

Tony slowly advanced, raising a finger and pointing at his opponent, his eyes filled with savage malice.

Phantom Stranger reached up to adjust his hat, letting out a dry cough, hoping to defuse the tense atmosphere and perhaps salvage the situation.

"Get lost."

Tony stomped his foot on the ground, and the entire Rock of Eternity shattered. An undulating crack raced towards Phantom Stranger, and a faint red light was visible within the crack, emanating a dense sulfuric aura, as if it connected directly to Hell.

Phantom Stranger let out a wry smile, made a helpless gesture to The Spectre, and vanished without a trace the moment he turned.

His abilities, much like his name, were unpredictable; he had no intention of getting involved.

He was the one most familiar with The Spectre and wasn't worried about anything happening to him.

On the contrary, he was more concerned that the New God might fall to The Spectre.

Few dared to provoke the terrifying Spectre; the title "God's Spirit of Vengeance" was not merely for show, but was built upon countless powerful achievements.

In a clash between The Spectre and the New God, at the very least, The Spectre would never lose.

Phantom Stranger vanished without a trace, and The Spectre calmly controlled the host body he possessed, saying faintly, "Possessing this body was merely a coincidence. I will return it to you perfectly intact once I am done with it."

"Done with it? Return it to me? What do you think this is?!"

Tony revealed a savage expression, his face subtly twisting. Powerful energy surged towards The Spectre, but was easily nullified by him.

The Spectre observed Tony for a moment, then nodded. "I've heard of you. Many old geezers have suffered losses at your hands. My first impression of you is rather good; you're not a heartless bastard. That's commendable."

"To hell with your God!!!"
