Chapter 675: Interstellar Annihilation (1)
Galactus's Heralds were guarding Galactus's head. Although Galactus was dead, his four Heralds stubbornly remained on guard.
Silver Surfer, Stardust, Tyrant, and Firelord, these four Level Seven Beings, all held a certain affection for Galactus, having spent long ages together.
They knew even more clearly that those damned Insectoids wouldn't spare Galactus's head, and Annihilus wouldn't give up on plundering the Cosmic Energy.
"Are we just going to wait here?!"
Tyrant growled irritably. The long-handled great axe on his shoulder could easily cleave a planet, but Tyrant dared not swing it carelessly, fearing he would enrage the Monster on Earth.
Galactus's head was larger than Earth itself and posed a significant threat to it, which was why this area had always been monitored.
But the four Heralds dared not move, because there was an even more terrifying entity on Earth. That Monster could even dismantle Galactus; killing them would be even simpler.
Galactus was already dead. They had no reason to desperately fight an invincible foe for a deceased master; they had already fulfilled their respective duties.
Only Stardust, the Energy Being who held feelings for Galactus that transcended a master-servant relationship, angrily wanted to go to Earth for revenge, but was stopped by Silver Surfer and fell into a prolonged silence.
Firelord sat upright, the flames burning around him emitting temperatures of hundreds of millions of degrees, far higher than the Sun's Core temperature. He raised an eyelid and said indifferently, "If you're impatient, you can go to Earth. There's no need to wait foolishly here."
Tyrant's face fell, and he grumbled curses, but still didn't dare to do anything.
Go to Earth? That would be courting death. Without Galactus, they, as Heralds, had also lost the source of Cosmic Energy. Their power progression was negligible, and in Red Lantern Hulk's hands, they'd be instantly killed.
Silver Surfer suddenly looked up and said in a low voice, "They're here... prepare yourselves."
A piercing buzzing sound rang in every Herald's mind, filling them with a nauseating discomfort.
The Annihilation Wave had finally arrived in the Solar System. They came to seize Galactus's head and extract the last remaining Cosmic Energy.
Cosmic Energy possessed the ability to instantly transform a weakling and a good-for-nothing into a super genius. If the Annihilation Wave could acquire this ability and decipher the principles of Cosmic Energy, they could continuously produce super Swarm Soldiers and sweep across the entire Universe.
In the center of the swarm, where numerous elite Swarm Soldiers gathered, a rare bipedal green figure entered the Heralds' perception range.
This creature already had distinct facial features, wore a Cape, and subtly exuded a powerful pressure. Invisible Mental Power fluctuations controlled a massive number of insects.
"Annihilus, that guy really came," Silver Surfer said.
Large amounts of white energy particles shimmered as Stardust exuded a burst of rage: "This bug won't even spare the master's corpse!"
"Aren't we just waiting for him to come? The moment he enters the Solar System, he's bound to affect Earth. That Monster won't let Annihilus go. No matter who among them dies, it's good for us. We'll then kill the one who survives and avenge our master."
The flames on Firelord's body flickered, "After this, I will no longer owe my master anything. I will regain my freedom and do what I want to do."
Repaying a debt, that was the true thought in the hearts of the four Heralds.
Over the years, they had supplied Galactus with countless planets, personally witnessing billions of lives die because of them. This daily repetition, the frequent and continuous screams and wails, had long filled their hearts with disgust.
Now that Galactus was dead, they would fulfill their final obligations. If they miraculously survived, they would scatter in all directions, regain their freedom, and do what they wanted to do.
Among the four of them, only Stardust truly harbored thoughts of revenge. The other three merely intended to fulfill their duties as Galactus's Heralds and then live the lives they desired.
Anyway, having received Cosmic Energy infusions, their power was immense, and their lifespan was infinite. The universe was so vast, with so many varieties, that there would always be things they liked.
The Annihilation Wave arrived in the Solar System, and Annihilus's figure instantly appeared before Galactus's head.
"You rats are too stupid. If I were you, I would run as far as possible right now, instead of staying here to await death."
Annihilus spoke through Mental Power fluctuations, his words received and understood by the four Heralds.
"Annihilus, spare Galactus's head. This is all that remains of him," Silver Surfer said, flying before Annihilus on his Surfboard, quietly advising him.
"Precisely because it's all that remains is why I've come personally to seize it. If I don't seize it now, it'll be gone later. This is the head of one of the Five Creator Deities, and its value to me is immense."
Annihilus stepped past Silver Surfer, examining the huge head that had long lost its life force yet still emitted powerful fluctuations. Annihilus's ugly green insect head lightly nodded, seemingly very satisfied.
He had personally come to Earth precisely to obtain Galactus's head and extract Cosmic Energy from within it.
As for the four Heralds... to be honest, Annihilus truly didn't consider them worth his attention; they were all just trash.
The massive swarm flew to the edge of the Solar System and suddenly stopped moving, aggressively roaring and howling at the Solar System, but never crossing its boundary.
Only Annihilus himself descended into the Solar System's interior.
The four Heralds' hearts sank.
Annihilus sneered, "Do you think I haven't investigated Galactus's cause of death? I won't touch Earth unless I have absolute certainty of victory; that would bring me no benefit."
Tyrant wielded his great axe, rushing out fiercely and chopping down hard at Annihilus, while cursing, "You disgusting bug! I'm going to slaughter you!"
Annihilus extended a slender palm, easily catching Tyrant's heavy axe, then backhanded him with a punch, sending him flying like a piece of trash tossed into the distance.
Annihilus's power surpassed Galactus's; beating a Galactus Herald was simply too easy.
The fierce and ruthless Stardust slammed into him, large amounts of cosmic particles converging into a torrent far more terrifying than any energy cannon. She herself was like a galaxy, rushing to engulf Annihilus.
Firelord flew up, flames boiling, howling as he pounced on Annihilus.
Silver Surfer, riding his Surfboard, nimbly circled and opened his silver palm towards Annihilus, blasting out a fierce energy beam.
The four Heralds besieged Annihilus.
"Visually impressive attacks," Annihilus said. "Unfortunately, completely useless against me. Your petty schemes are also ineffective."
Annihilus said with sharp and strange Mental Power, fighting the four Heralds alone.
Without a doubt, the four Heralds were no match for Annihilus. They had been utterly defeated years ago, and now that Galactus was dead, they were even less of a match.
Soon, some of the four Heralds died, and others fled. Annihilus calmly obtained Galactus's head, and finally, after casting a wary glance at Earth, turned and left.
