Chapter 365

Chapter 364 Ion

The Emotional Entities are creatures composed of pure energy, and they all exist by attaching themselves to an embodiment of an emotion. Therefore, after extensive research and exploration, the Guardians finally managed to prove that an Emotional Entity could select a living being as its host.

As energy beings, Emotional Entities can attach themselves to a living creature, entering a state of perfect union with their host. In that state, the host no longer needs a power ring or any other medium to wield the power of the emotional spectrum. A host fused with an Emotional Entity would be directly linked to the emotional spectrum itself, possessing an inexhaustible supply of energy from the corresponding spectrum.

In the comics, this was a development that was supposed to occur much later in the Green Lantern story. The first person ever chosen by the Guardians to be the host for the Ion shark was Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. After fusing with the Emotional Entity, Kyle no longer needed a Green Lantern Ring and was admired and respected by the ordinary members of the entire Green Lantern Corps, seen as a symbol of the corps and a guardian angel-like existence.

And by then, he was no longer called a Green Lantern, but "Ion."

Now, the timeline had changed. During Orin Vale and Ganthet's period of cooperation, not only did Orin Vale learn a great deal of knowledge about the emotional spectrum from Ganthet, but Ganthet also learned a lot from him.

For example, the existence of Ultraman, who was also a being of pure energy, and Orin Vale's already mastered ability to assimilate and fuse with living organisms. These gave Ganthet a great deal of inspiration, and with Orin Vale's prompting, Ganthet for the first time considered the possibility of having a Lantern directly harness an Emotional Entity.

Ganthet and Sayd had been conducting this research ever since they left the Blue Lantern Corps. If successful, this would be the most successful creation in the history of the Green Lantern Corps. They would create the most invincible warrior of the green spectrum, which would undoubtedly play a crucial role in their fight against the prophecy of doom from the Book of Oa.

And naturally, Ganthet and Sayd selected the Green Lantern they considered the most suitable host with almost no hesitation.

Hal Jordan.

A vortex of green light swirled around Hal, turning him into the center of the brilliance. Amidst the surging energy, the shark-like entity of willpower leaped out as if from a raging current and slammed into Hal, only to merge into him like a stream of water.

In that instant, Hal felt as if his body had been filled to the brim. He had never felt such abundant energy. A scorching warm current flowed through his limbs and bones, seemingly echoing his immense willpower, transforming into a green flame that blazed around him.

Now, he was no longer a Green Lantern.

He was the first person in the history of the Lantern Corps to achieve a perfect union with an Emotional Entity.

He was Ion.

"Get him!" shouted the Yellow Lanterns of the Sinestro Corps. Several of them seemed to want to take advantage of the moment of distraction just after Hal completed his fusion, launching a full-speed sneak attack at his back.

However, the Yellow Lantern constructs they fired disintegrated on their own before they even came within several meters of Hal's back.

The green light surrounding Hal seemed to have a will of its own. Without forming any constructs or having a specific direction, it simply flared in their direction. All the constructs were instantly disintegrated. An overwhelming green light swept out, and the shockwave shattered the shields of several Yellow Lantern members, sending them screaming and plummeting downwards.

Even Sinestro was seeing such a strange phenomenon for the first time, but he didn't need much knowledge of the spectrum to see that the current Hal had completely surpassed the category of "Green Lantern" and become something entirely different.

Those damned Little Blue Men were hiding a trump card like this!?

"Now, Sinestro!"

Hal charged towards him, trailing blazing green light.

"It's time to end this!"

*End this, my ass,* Sinestro cursed inwardly.

*You've got some nerve, shamelessly using a cheat like that.*

However, the fact that a Lantern could actually fuse with an Emotional Entity greatly startled Sinestro, and his mind quickly began to race. Did that mean the Emotional Entity of Fear could also...

But then he immediately realized.

His own corps' Emotional Entity was also on the opposing side!

That was just damn awkward.

Boom!

The Yellow Lantern construct was shattered effortlessly. A green slap sent Sinestro spinning, and he plummeted downwards like a yellow afterimage.

With Brainiac completely finished, the front lines of the Sinestro Corps on the main battlefield had completely collapsed.

The Yellow Lanterns were already on the receiving end of a beating. Both the Green and Blue Lanterns were hammering them, and they couldn't handle most of the Justice League members either. At this point, there was basically no one left on the battlefield they could afford to provoke. Their only remaining mission was to take a beating and soak up damage.

The Manhunters, on the other hand, still had room to maneuver thanks to their equipment that countered the emotional spectrum. But for that very reason, they became Orin Vale's primary target after Old Bu.

A red-and-silver afterimage flitted across the battlefield, leaving a string of explosions in its wake. Not a single Manhunter had time to even see the newcomer's direction or appearance before the afterimage flashed past, turning them into exploding fireballs. Severed limbs and metallic wreckage flew everywhere.

With a casual wave of his hand, Orin Vale shot a light beam from his fingertips. Midway through its flight, it suddenly scattered, as if splitting into a gigantic net. The beams crisscrossed the sky, but every single one, as if it had eyes, locked onto the body of at least one Manhunter.

In almost a single second, countless Manhunters were pierced through simultaneously. The continuous sound of explosions echoed all around Orin Vale—above, below, left, and right.

Many of the Manhunters were engaged with others right up to the moment they were obliterated. Those Green Lanterns and Blue Lanterns were fighting intensely with the Manhunters in front of them, only to suddenly see a light beam shoot out from nowhere, and the Manhunter that was alive and kicking a second ago was suddenly dead the next.

The Blue Lanterns were fine, at most remarking that this was to be expected of the Supreme Being. But the Green Lanterns were seeing a scene like this for the first time today. Every single one of them was left thinking "what the hell," a feeling that hadn't let up since they first arrived on Earth.

Seeing such a being on Earth, they suddenly felt that their Lantern Corps's act of assigning a Green Lantern to Sector 2814 was a bit redundant.

No, compared to the scene before their eyes, they suddenly felt that their so-called "most powerful weapon in the universe," the Green Lantern Ring they were all so proud of, had suddenly lost its appeal.

"That! That's him!"

Hank Henshaw, who was in a deadlocked fight with Superman, saw the scene from afar, and his eyes lit up.

Superman was stunned. Before he could figure out what this guy was up to now, he was suddenly sent flying by a Yellow Lantern construct fist from Cyborg Superman.

Then, as if he had lost interest in Superman, he turned and flew at full power in Orin Vale's direction.

"I am here! Let us end this—"

Before he could finish his sentence, a stray, splintered light beam suddenly appeared and blasted the mid-flight Cyborg Superman far into the distance.

Orin Vale, who was busy clearing the screen of minions, paused, vaguely feeling that the thing he had just hit felt a little different from the other grunts.

"Did something just fly past?"
