Chapter 256

Chapter 252: Dehryan

Superman. On Earth, the name is practically synonymous with invincibility. You might not have seen him, but it's impossible to have never heard of him, and even more impossible not to know what he's capable of.

The moment that S-emblem appeared on the battlefield, a single phrase seemed to flash through the minds of the Dehryan soldiers.

Game over.

What happened next was just as expected. Superman's figure blurred, a red-and-blue afterimage streaking through the air like a whirlwind. They couldn't see his movements at all, only hearing a series of thunderous booms in mid-air as the soldiers' Mecha exploded and were disabled one after another.

The guns in their hands were powerful, but only relative to Earth's weapons. And when fired at Superman, you couldn't say they had no effect, you could only say... alright, they had no effect whatsoever.

Their flying Mecha were fast and cool, but in front of Superman, they were at best better than nothing.

Generally, conflicts between nations weren't part of Superman's job description, but when it escalated to the level of an interstellar invasion, the nature of the situation was entirely different. In just one minute, Superman demonstrated to everyone what an outrageous role he could play single-handedly in a war if he so chose.

And for them, this was only the beginning of the nightmare.

Following right after was Supergirl. Although she rarely made public appearances, the S-emblem on her chest, identical to Superman's, was intimidating enough. And reality soon proved their fears were not unfounded. The girl's performance was in no way inferior to Superman's; she swept across the battlefield like a gust of wind, and wherever she went, Mecha exploded and men were thrown into chaos.

Next was Martian Manhunter. This one was a heavyweight—in the literal sense. The Martian landed and immediately activated his shape-shifting ability, his body swelling to over fifty meters tall. His form changed into that of a terrifying, upright dragon with a long fin running from its spine down to its tail, and from its open mouth, it spat scorching flames of light.

Everyone was even more dumbfounded.

Superman and Supergirl were one thing, but what the hell was Godzilla doing here joining the party?

"Hold the line! The Alpha Lightning Squad is here as reinforcements!"

A dagger-like squad pierced through the Dehryan formation, splitting into two groups to outflank the edges of the battle.

This was a special unit. Unlike the regular flight squadrons, they weren't equipped with heavy exoskeleton armor, but with a more form-fitting Battlesuit. When active, glowing stripes crisscrossed their entire bodies. Although their defense capability was weak and most weapons had been removed, they possessed extraordinary running speed.

Because of this, they never engaged in frontal assaults in their battle plans but were more adept at flanking guerilla tactics. Using their elusive speed to support the frontline troops, the enemy would never know who had launched the attack.

That was how it usually went.

However, just as this squad took off, a red-and-gold afterimage chased after them from behind. The figure was covered in golden electric light. He turned around, facing them while running backward, and stared at their Battlesuits with wide-eyed curiosity.

"Whoa, you guys are really fast. What kind of technology is this? It doesn't look like the Speed Force..."

The entire squad was stupefied.

The feeling was a bit like in a game, after you've spent money to buy top-tier, god-like gear for maximum movement speed, and you're just about to go on a rampage and have some fun, when some guy with no gear nonchalantly overtakes you from behind and asks, "Hey bro, wanna buy a cheat?"

No, but seriously, running backward is just too much, isn't it?

The damage was secondary; the insult was just off the charts.

"It's The Flash! The Flash from Central City!" someone shouted.

"Get him!"

The soldiers all drew their guns and opened fire, shooting out energy beams. The Flash's figure blurred as he dodged to the side, muttering, "Alright, if you don't want to talk, fine. You don't have to be so... ugh, what a bunch of hotheads."

As he spoke, he took a step, and a red afterimage crackling with electric current flashed through the entire superspeed squad. The soldiers only saw a flash of red before their eyes and instinctively raised their arms to protect their faces, but the anticipated superspeed impact never came.

Instead, they just felt a little chilly, especially around their crotches...

Looking down, the entire squad froze.

They had been stripped naked.

In an instant so fast they couldn't react, The Flash had brazenly run through their ranks, casually stripping them of their high-tech Battlesuits, firearms, and everything else, piece by piece.

So when they came to their senses, the entire squad was streaking across the battlefield...

What the hell kind of speed was that!?

The entire Alpha Lightning Squad was dumbfounded.

And to think they had been so impressed with their alien technology, believing they were invincible for being able to run faster than a bullet. Now, in comparison, how could they dare call that pathetic, third-rate technique 'speed'?

An entire squad of so many people, all with their superspeed battlesuits operating at full power, and The Flash had stripped every single one of them naked without anyone managing to react. It was obvious this meant that in The Flash's eyes, they were no different from an eighty-year-old Old Man strolling in the park.

After all, would you care which snail was the Usain Bolt of snails?

If they had previously thought him running backward in front of them was an insult, they now realized it probably wasn't.

After all, from the looks of it now, he could probably hop on one foot—no, he could freaking crawl faster than they could run.

Meanwhile, the other squadrons nearby were also suffering various degrees of physical and mental torment.

For instance, at this moment, no one in the heat of the battle noticed a huge shadow falling from the sky. A squad of Dehryan soldiers, enveloped by the shadow, looked up and were shocked to see a gigantic shadow plummeting toward them from mid-air.

It was a glistening green, huge and heavy, and it looked like a... road roller?

"Eat my Road Roller!"

A road roller fell from the sky, accompanied by a deafening roar that shook the very ground. The Green Lantern, remotely controlling the road roller construct, descended from the sky. He formed a green megaphone near his mouth, his voice loud and full of vigor.

"Listen up, aliens! Your actions have violated interstellar law. I am the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. If you know what's good for you, raise your hands and surrender. You have the right to remain silent, but everything you say will be..."

His Power Ring reminded him, "Actually, according to Oan law, the actions of Apokolips are generally not within the jurisdiction of the Lantern Corps..."

"Shut up! What I say goes! Don't ruin my moment!" Hal rebuked.

The Power Ring fell silent.

However, down below, the battle was still raging. The high-tech soldiers were locked in an earth-shattering struggle with a group of beings with god-like powers... well, 'battle' might not be the most fitting word. It was more like the other side was doing all the hitting, and they were doing all the getting hit.

But in any case, no one had the time to pay attention to Hal.

Hal, feeling snubbed, dismissed the megaphone.

"Alright, it seems no one has time for us. In that case..."

Hal raised his Power Ring. A green light shone, creating constructs of countless metal parts that assembled around him until they formed a twenty-meter-tall Mobile Suit bristling with weapons from head to toe. A glistening green Lantern symbol flickered on its chest.

"Then let's party!"
