Chapter 244

Chapter 240: Have the Times Changed?

When this giant brute suddenly popped out of nowhere, Trickster was completely dumbfounded.

To be fair, this guy wasn't weak; he was definitely beyond the level of a conventional creature. The punch that slammed into Trickster's face alone was powerful enough to challenge a New God, and he wouldn't even be considered weak among the New Gods.

But this only made Trickster more baffled. It was true she was an invader, but she hadn't even had time to do anything yet. How had she provoked such a powerhouse?

And what was that about stealing his things? What had she stolen? Was he insane?

As the prophesied Son of Beginning and Destruction, The Newborn's combat power was quite top-tier. In the comics, Wonder Woman was no match for him at all; even when she unsealed her divine power and had a burst of strength, she was still suppressed by him. He had annihilated both Apollo and Hades, and all of Olympus combined couldn't defeat him.

A powerhouse who could slaughter Old Gods at will would naturally have impressive combat power among the New Gods. Moreover, Trickster was a New God who didn't excel in direct combat, so she was beaten until she was spitting blood in just a few blows.

However, her thoughts shifted, and she immediately realized the problem.

Right, wasn't she currently wearing the face of that woman from Earth?

Didn't that mean she had taken the fall for her?

Having figured this out, Trickster hurriedly raised her hand.

"Stop!"

The Newborn held back his fist, waiting to see what she had to say.

The next moment, 'Diana's' pretty face was wreathed in a purple mist. When it dissipated, it had transformed into an eerie skeleton. A purple robe fluttered, revealing the skeletal frame beneath.

The Newborn was stunned, his fist frozen in mid-air, unable to quite process the situation.

"See that, you idiot? I'm not the one you're looking for!" Trickster yelled. "You're beating up the wrong person, you moron!"

The Newborn blinked. His mind whirred for a moment, and a look of realization dawned in his eyes as if he had instantly figured everything out.

Then he roared with fury, "So, you dare to trick me!"

With that, he landed another punch, sending Trickster reeling.

Trickster: "?"

Seriously, are you fucking crazy? You know you're wrong and you're still hitting me?

This was utterly intolerable, especially for a noble New God. Trickster roared in fury, "Fine! If that's how it's going to be, then I'll show you what true fear is!"

As she spoke, she flung her arms out, and a purple mist rushed forward.

The psychic realm was her specialty. On Apokolips, she took pleasure in tormenting the minds of captives, specializing in creating fear to break their spirits.

Even the slightest crack in one's Wall of Will would be seized by her, leading them to a state of eternal damnation.

And now, looking at her opponent...

Hmm, it seems there are no weak points at all.

The Newborn threw another punch, smashing her skeletal head into the floor and shattering the tiles.

"You think you can break me with psychic power?" The Newborn bellowed. "My experiences are beyond your imagination! I was abandoned at birth, I grew up in the harshest environments, and I was tempered by seven thousand years of hellish suffering!"

"My will is indestructible!"

He threw another punch that made the ground shake, as if the earth itself was sinking. But when he retracted his fist, all that remained in the cracked ground was a tattered purple robe. The skeleton that had been inside it had turned into purple mist and drifted away with the wind.

"Hmph, coward."

Seeing his opponent use an escape trick to flee, The Newborn suddenly found it boring.

"Not even the courage to face a real fight—urgh!"

Before he could finish, a flying kick struck him in the cheek. The Newborn's head snapped to the side, and his entire body was sent flying, crashing through several walls before landing on the street outside.

He looked up to see a pair of long, fair legs striding out of the smoke and dust. Wonder Woman, now in her full battle attire and carrying her sword and shield, appeared before him.

"Ha, finally, the real one appears."

The Newborn stood up, his eyes filled with a fervent battle lust.

"Now it's time for things to be returned to their rightful owner."

"If you're referring to the position of God King, I don't want it in the slightest," Diana said coldly. "But I won't sit by and let it fall into the hands of a bloodthirsty lunatic."

While she felt sorry for The Newborn's fate—no one should have to suffer a destiny of being abandoned at birth—whatever the objective reasons, his harsh destiny had shaped him into a savage monster.

He had no morals, no emotions, only a heart full of hatred. Years ago, his first assault on Olympus was a bloodbath. In his worldview of the law of the jungle, the lives of mortals were worthless. A trail of corpses followed wherever he went.

Diana could never allow such a monster to ascend to the throne.

"Just as I thought," The Newborn bellowed. "Then perish, Wonder Woman!"

As he spoke, he stomped his foot, and the ground beneath him instantly cracked from the force of his impact. His burly figure turned into an afterimage, and just as he was about to clash with Diana, a red-and-blue afterimage suddenly descended from the sky, slamming him into the ground with a loud boom.

Superman stood with his arms crossed, pinning the Olympian brute under his foot. He raised an eyebrow. "Is this another one of your brothers?"

Although Diana had said she didn't need their help, since the enemy had practically run right into them, there was no reason to stand by and do nothing.

Diana wore a helpless expression. "Mm... Olympian family matters are sometimes like this."

"Your family's business is always complicated..." Superman said helplessly.

Boom!

The ground to the side shattered as The Newborn, who had just been slammed into the earth, burst out from a different spot. He roared and threw a powerful punch.

Smack.

Superman caught it with one open palm. The Newborn's muscular fist slammed squarely into his palm, and a transparent shockwave erupted in ripples.

"Whoa," Superman tilted his head. "You're pretty strong, buddy."

The Newborn stared at his captured fist and blinked dazedly.

What's going on?

He had no Divine Position, no Divine Power, yet he still possessed the strength to destroy Olympus. The one thing he was proud of was his arm strength. The Newborn was confident that no one in all of Olympus could take one of his punches head-on, not Zeus, and not even Hercules.

Yet this guy, who wasn't even a God, actually caught it?

He made it look effortless, without even a tremor.

And he even casually said... that I'm pretty strong?

That has to be sarcasm, right?

The next moment, Superman's fist landed on his forehead. His vision blurred as the world flew backward and his entire body was sent flying.

But he was a god who specialized in strength, after all, and his durability was no joke. The Newborn leaned back, pressed his right palm to the ground, and dragged a long crack along the surface. After sliding a considerable distance, he did a somersault to stabilize himself.

He looked up and was startled to see a strange figure in a green cape and purple cloak before him.

"My apologies," Martian Manhunter said quite politely, "but we cannot allow you to continue running amok in a public place."

"Get lost, green-skinned monster!"

The Newborn threw another punch. It was heavy and powerful, intended to obliterate his opponent in a single blow. But to his utter surprise, the Martian became intangible and phased right through it. The punch, backed by immense strength, hit nothing but air. The Newborn himself staggered, nearly falling over.

He turned his head in a daze to look at the Martian Manhunter behind him.

What kind of new trick was this?

Could it be that after he'd slept for seven thousand years, the times had changed?
