Chapter 70: tony Visits Gotham
October 19, 2022 Author: Great Demon Spirit
Every Saturday, the Gotham Times would feature a lifestyle section called "Gotham Impressions." This edition of Gotham Impressions was undoubtedly dominated by the visit of Stark Industries. The exchange and cooperation between two corporate giants was undeniably the major event of the moment. Countless reporters, as if injected with adrenaline, swarmed Gotham. Their long lenses and short-barreled cameras were set up early, aimed at every corner of Gotham Harbor. Numerous prominent reporters spoke into their cameras, eager to capture the latest breaking news.
The most-watched figure was undoubtedly a special individual within the Stark team.
Mechanic tony, this increasingly prominent Mutant, recently acquired shares in Stark Industries in one fell swoop, without any prior warning, astonishing the world. Countless Mutants spread the news, believing this to be an incredible opportunity for them to gain precious equal rights. tony even made a high-profile appearance at Stark Industries' shareholder meeting, a rare sight presided over personally by Tony Stark.
These days, all news reports were dominated by tony; almost every trending story was related to tony. Headlines like "The Stark Family Backs Mutants, Pressuring The Government," "Professor X Praises tony's Contributions," and "Certain High-Ranking Officials Express Strong Dissatisfaction with tony" flew around, engaging the public and creating an extremely lively atmosphere.
Before the buzz could die down, this Mutant then showed up in Gotham. Stark Industries even specially arranged for him to have the title of a conference observer and recorder.
"I think some people are far too flamboyant. It creates a very poor impression. He completely disregards his own position, and it's hard for me to trust him," a current affairs commentator said into the camera.
Fox, the President and Technical Director of Wayne Enterprises, personally came to the port to welcome Stark Industries. He was approximately sixty years old, his slightly thicker lips revealing his gentle nature. He had a buzz cut, his half-inch white hair stood up like a layer of white velvet.
A luxurious yacht slowly docked, drawing everyone's gaze. The yacht was exceptionally opulent, rumored to have been commissioned by Tony Stark and meticulously crafted, perfectly suiting his flashy personality. tony still remembered what Tony Stark had said to him back then: "I'll send you on my private yacht. No matter what, we have to outshine that flashy guy in Gotham in terms of extravagance. He's so annoying, always copying me."
tony stood in the center of the group, neither at the front nor the back. He looked around but did not see Bruce Wayne. tony even suspected Bruce had given similar instructions to his executive, Fox.
"On behalf of Wayne Enterprises, I extend our welcome," Fox said, reaching out his hand as he stepped forward, taking the lead to shake the hand of Stark Industries' representative, Pepper, Tony's secretary.
Tony Stark was soon to depart for Afghanistan and would not need Pepper to serve as his secretary, housekeeper, and nanny for a short period.
"Thank you, Mr. Fox, I believe we will have a good start." Pepper's appearance immediately caught everyone's eye. Her slender figure, well above average among women, her soft golden hair reaching just below her ears, framed an oval-shaped face, flushed with a healthy glow. But what was most striking were her vibrant eyes, sharp and deep, sparkling beneath her gracefully arched, thin brows.
tony had absolutely no interest in the pleasantries exchanged between these businessmen. He simply scanned the crowd intensely, but ultimately couldn't find Mr. Wayne, causing him to sigh deeply.
"Mr. tony, are you perhaps not entirely satisfied with our reception?" Fox asked with a warm smile, like an approachable elder, expressing his greeting. At Bruce's request, he was to pay special attention to this uninvited guest. According to Fox's understanding of Bruce, at this very moment, Bruce was probably monitoring the situation through surveillance cameras.
Fox was one of the few who knew that Bruce was actually Batman.
"No, I'm just thinking that I've never experienced such a lively welcome before," tony chuckled, speaking nonsense with a straight face.
Ah, the legendary city with "simple folk"... There are always many "simple-minded" citizens here, who, if they say they'll rob you today, definitely won't wait until tomorrow... The customs of this city have always been so "simple," very... well, "honest," yes, "honest."
"Just experience it a few more times. Seeing you reminds me of my youth; back then, I was also like this, knowing nothing, having everything to learn," Fox said with a smile, ushering the group into the specialized cars sent for them.
...
Not far from Wayne Manor, there was a hidden cave, leading directly underground. This was the Batcave, which Bruce Wayne had painstakingly transformed into an underground base. At this moment, Bruce was sitting in front of the Batcave's computer, the screen displaying the visiting Stark group—or rather, he was intently watching tony through the monitors with keen eyes.
Bruce, as a noble heir, seemed to possess a polished demeanor, but upon closer inspection, one would find an undeniable weariness etched onto his face. His hands, occasionally splayed open, revealed thick calluses, remnants of arduous training with various weapons.
The sound of the elevator signaled the arrival of the Wayne family's old butler, Alfred, who slowly walked in, holding a drink in one hand and a newspaper in the other.
"After Wayne Manor was rebuilt, I had hoped everything would improve, but that hasn't been the case," Alfred said, crossing the vast underground platform, maneuvering around various Batmobiles and high-tech weapons. "You used to refuse to sleep in the attic, and now you refuse to sleep in the mansion. Every time you go looking for trouble, things inevitably end up in a mess."
"Indeed, one must learn from mistakes... and the person who's arrived this time isn't simple, he's even quite dangerous." Bruce frowned as he took the drink, taking an indifferent sip before casually opening the newspaper in his hand, which was filled with news about tony.
"Then you must be overflowing with wisdom by now. Are you interested in the person himself, or the power he represents?" Alfred asked, half-jokingly, half-seriously. He put on his glasses and took Bruce's muscular arm, beginning to stitch up his latest wound.
Batman had been out again last night, taking down a large number of gangs.
"Listen, Alfred, I have no intention of discriminating against the Mutant Community... I'm more interested in his purpose for coming to Gotham. No one travels thousands of miles for something completely unrelated, and this tony is no different; he definitely has his own agenda." Bruce grimaced, enduring the pain in his arm, as he adjusted the computer, bringing up images of tony from various angles, leaving no blind spots. "How was your vacation?"
"Just average, I suppose. And you weren't using this monitor to keep tabs on me the entire time I was on vacation, were you?" Alfred asked.
Bruce smiled: "If you actually took a vacation, I probably would."
