Chapter 169

Chapter 167: This is What You Wanted

A.R.G.U.S., originally a government agency in the DC Comics world, is the Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans, specializing in providing logistical and combat support for the Justice League.

Tony knew very well that the DC Comics and Marvel worlds had almost polar opposite attitudes toward superhumans.

The Marvel Universe was filled with malice and aversion towards superhumans. Not to mention the unceasing massacres targeting Mutants, there were even many timelines where Mutants were completely exterminated by ordinary humans for various reasons. Sentinel Robots and serums targeting the X-Gene caused the extinction of Mutants in different timelines.

Other superhumans in the Marvel Universe were also subjected to various restrictions. For example, the most notorious Superhero Registration Act forcibly required superhumans to reveal their identities and abilities, directly causing the fracture of the Avengers and the death of Captain America, leading to one of the most tragic and brutal moments.

In contrast, in DC Comics, the people viewed superhumans as their saviors, fanatically worshiping the Superheroes who saved the Earth time and again. The Government did not restrict this behavior (or rather, couldn't restrict it).

But in this world, so far, there was only S.H.I.E.L.D., which was established during World War II. Back then, the number of superhumans was generally scarce, unlike today, where the population was skyrocketing year after year in an explosive trend.

S.H.I.E.L.D. naturally took over monitoring the Earth, and A.R.G.U.S. simply vanished without a trace.

And now, Tony's approach was to use his own methods to build A.R.G.U.S. from scratch.

This would not only provide a legitimate platform for a grand alliance, bringing in all the factions that could cooperate with Tony, but when necessary, A.R.G.U.S. would also function as a super-joint agency.

On the other hand, Tony would eventually leave Earth to battle in the Cosmos. He needed to leave a monitoring stronghold on Earth. Similarly, if he encountered a terrible threat in the Universe, Earth could serve as a line of retreat.

"A.R.G.U.S.? I understand. You want to establish an organization similar to S.H.I.E.L.D.? If this A.R.G.U.S. only consists of you, it's naturally a private organization. But if you pull in factions like our Oscorp, then this A.R.G.U.S. can't possibly be a 'private organization'." Harry Osborn smirked.

Harry Osborn was also a high-IQ genius; he wouldn't be foolish enough not to see something so simple. In this country, capital was the most terrifying thing in the political game, because the only ceiling on capital's power was even greater capital.

However, for Oscorp, this situation did not apply.

The act of using capital to force political change would happen naturally. At that point, not even The Government could stop it, unless someone just killed them all. But that would cause a fatal blow to the economy.

Capital itself, within a Government full of political games, was an invincible giant beast and the greatest protective talisman for the beneficiaries of certain systems.

A closer look would reveal that over ninety percent of those who dared to touch the owners of capital giants were lone wolves or groups like the League of Shadows—those who had nothing to lose. Because they weren't beneficiaries of this capitalist system, they didn't have to consider any damn interests. To them, killing was the greatest interest.

"Think what you will. I just want to protect myself... Of course, I do have my own selfish motives. Instead of passively protecting myself, I'd rather proactively build a sturdier shield and a sharper spear," Tony said frankly. As for how much the other party believed, that wasn't important.

Oscorp was Tony's target. At the same time, the current Oscorp was at its most fragile and easiest to infiltrate.

Harry Osborn, as the owner of the giant corporation, had inherited all of Norman Osborn's shares and a large amount of confidential information. But what Harry Osborn feared most was the hereditary family disease. He was desperate to find a cure and would do so at any cost.

"Mr. Osborn, it's actually not that difficult to cure this genetic disease. Norman Osborn spent most of his life researching a cure, and he had already succeeded."

Tony spoke slowly and deliberately, sitting calmly in his chair.

"You mean those mutated spiders? They were destroyed long ago! Not a single one is left! That bastard Spider-Man, he stole my family's most precious treasure! My father invested a huge amount of capital to develop those spiders to cure our family's disease! He's a vile thief and a liar!"

The mere mention of this made Harry Osborn lose control, and he roared in frustration and anger.

Harry Osborn was genuinely furious and resentful. He had sincerely begged Spider-Man for just a little of his blood, even just a tiny bit would have been enough. With it, he could have reverse-engineered the genetic formula from Spider-Man's blood. Not only could he cure his disease, but he could also gain physical attributes far beyond those of an ordinary person.

This could be seen as an alternative Super-Soldier Program.

But Spider-Man refused without hesitation, repeating "I don't want to hurt you." If he didn't give him the blood, Harry Osborn would surely die! But if he gave it, there was a glimmer of hope!

Spider-Man's refusal had once driven Harry Osborn to complete despair. This Spider-Man, who made it his principle to help others, had refused him. That would have been one thing, but the most hateful part was that he pretended to be kind, saying it was to protect him!

"Listen, I don't care where you got all this information, but I don't have time to play word games with you! Just tell me, what's the method? If you can cure me, I swear in the name of God that I will join your... A.R.G.U.S. I will repay you!"

Harry Osborn grew more and more agitated, directly demanding that Tony hand over the technology. He wasn't normally like this, but a person in despair, faced with an unexpected lifeline, would risk everything to grasp it.

Tony smiled. He playfully touched a digital watch on his wrist, silently praising in his heart, "Nice work, Max!"

At this moment, Max had transformed into an electric current, temporarily residing in the watch on Tony's wrist. Max could control electricity and could also see the human body's bioelectric field.

Electro only needed to gently induce a disturbance in a few specific currents within the bioelectric field to affect a person's emotions. The subtle changes in the body would go unnoticed, but the person would instinctively feel uneasy and irritable.

The human body is a wondrous thing. For example, the emotion of joy—does this feeling come from the consciousness and the soul's delight, or from the dopamine secreted by the body? If you inject more dopamine into a sad person, will that person feel joy?

There are many secrets. Tony only needed to grasp a few to achieve his goals.

"My method is the same as your father's. I will only provide you with what you want. How you research it is up to you."

Tony smiled, slowly placing a small vial of blood on the table in front of Harry Osborn.

"This is what you want most, Spider-Man's blood! Don't forget your promise!"
