Chapter 163: Red She-Hulk
2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit
"Betty, let's be clear. I can't help you for nothing, especially not by injecting you with the Hulk Serum. If word gets out, I'll have to bear the greatest responsibility." Tony looked at her and said slowly, "I need you to keep this a secret, at least until it's fully exposed."
"Of course," Betty agreed without hesitation.
Tony nodded slightly and took out the vial of Serum he had retrieved from Ross. This was the culmination of Ross's years of research on the Hulk, a genetic Serum he had specifically formulated for himself after studying his own genes.
As Ross's only descendant, Betty's physique should, in theory, possess some of his traits, making her somewhat compatible with this Hulk Serum.
Of course, if Ross had been cuckolded, then just pretend I never said that.
In fact, a closer look reveals that the success of the Hulk transformation, whether from the Serum or the Hulk's blood, was always somewhat related to the subject's own genes.
For example, the original She-Hulk—Dr. Banner's cousin—transformed after Dr. Banner risked giving her a life-saving blood transfusion during a crisis, which led to Banner's Cousin becoming a Hulk.
Similarly, since Ross could transform into a Hulk, his daughter should also possess the potential to do the same.
But success or failure depended on luck, and especially on Betty's own willpower. If the powerful Serum's impact turned her into an imbecile, there was nothing that could be done.
However, seeing Betty's grief-stricken and hate-filled expression, Tony was quite satisfied. This would slightly increase the probability of success.
"Follow me. I will inject you with the Serum in the Underground Laboratory. If you succeed, you will stay by my side as repayment, and I will help you get your revenge. If you fail, or if you turn into something else... don't blame me for putting you down."
Tony stood up. Max, without a word, faithfully carried out his duty as a bodyguard, silently following behind him.
Betty bit her lip, a flicker of determination and stubbornness on her face, as she trotted to keep up with Tony. She had no path of retreat left; she could only rely on the man before her, the only one from whom she could obtain immense power.
If her father had possessed superhuman power, even that of a lesser Super Soldier, he wouldn't have died so easily, right?
Tony secured Betty to a prepared laboratory table. Carefully selected restraints held her limbs firmly in place.
Tony wasn't worried about being unable to defeat a transformed Betty; he was merely preventing accidents. What if she couldn't maintain her sanity after the injection? If she escaped, Tony would have the trouble of hunting her down and explaining the situation to the Military.
As for the Hulk Serum, he had actually studied it for a while after obtaining it, but he hadn't made much progress. He didn't have Ross's research data at all. Trying to study the specially made Serum directly—what the hell was he supposed to find?
Besides, this kind of power was useless to Tony anyway.
As the Serum was slowly injected, the nervous Betty gradually began to feel at ease. From her vantage point, she had a clear view of Tony's face.
Tony's expression was focused and calm, and he exuded a peculiar aura that set one at ease.
The moment the injection was complete, Betty's body reacted violently.
Her eyes rolled back into her head and her body convulsed violently. All over her body, blood vessels bulged, swelling to dozens of times their normal size from beneath her skin. A few even expanded until they burst, tearing through the surface.
Inside the delicate girl's body, the Serum's power erupted with terrifyingly corrosive and destructive force. This domineering substance was on a level beyond an Ordinary Human; it was capable of inflicting devastating destruction upon a mortal body.
Tony's Allspark pulsed faintly. Under his control, a stream of particles flowed into Betty's body, allowing him to observe the changes in every cell on a microscopic level.
Her expanding chest strained her clothes, and her trembling arms put immense pressure on the restraints.
Max watched with a vigilant and worried expression.
"Sir, will she succeed?" Max was worried that if Betty failed, she would become a mindless beast and pose a threat to Tony.
As Tony's most die-hard loyalist, Max was privy to many things Tony kept secret. He was different from Amanda and Crane; their backgrounds gave them complex motives, but Max was someone Tony could truly trust and be at ease with.
The fact that Max was willing to lay down his life for him was enough.
But Tony hadn't told Max about killing Ross. After all, Max would have to work with Betty in the future, and if he knew too much, he might let it slip one day, causing unnecessary trouble.
But Max was crystal clear on the dangers of the Hulk Serum.
He fully understood the terrifying risk, because he himself had been on the verge of death back at Oscorp, which was how he became Electro.
Betty's reaction grew increasingly violent, and her body began to show signs of expanding.
What was even more worrying was the possibility that her body might just explode at any moment. Max moved to stand directly in front of Tony, preparing to take the force of the blast.
On a microscopic level, Tony silently observed every minute change. At that moment, he was like an omnipresent monitor.
"There's a chance of success... but it's really not high," Tony answered.
From Tony's perspective, the cells in Betty's body were being frantically destroyed by a violent external force. Every second, vast numbers of cells were unable to resist the corrosive power and were dying off.
A portion of her cells were changing, but it was far from enough. Moreover, these cells were feeding the changes back to the genetic factors in her Gene Chain, initiating a reverse proliferative modification from the surface back to the source.
It was an extremely dangerous, unconscious, and irreversible process. To use a single vial of serum to reverse-engineer a human's native genes was simply insane, with an extremely high failure rate.
If this continued, Betty would most likely die.
Tony frowned. He sent an even greater number of Allspark particles into Betty on a microscopic level, forcibly interfering with the transformation process.
The Allspark particles, which could alter matter on the atomic level, naturally had no problem dealing with things on a cellular level. It was just that, in the past, his particles had only affected inanimate objects like mechs.
The cells, nearly dead but still maintaining a brief state of reactivity, were partially reactivated after being infused with the Allspark. Under the influence of the Serum, they began to transform.
They turned white with a reddish hue.
Betty's body underwent a noticeable change. Her height shot up from around 1.6 meters to just over two, and the color of her physique changed as well.
Red, not green.
"Looks like Ross added something else to the Serum, something to make it more compatible with his own genes. That modification has carried over to his daughter."
Tony raised an eyebrow, surprised for a moment before understanding dawned on him.
Hulk or Red Hulk, it didn't really matter. As long as her combat power and potential were assured, that was all that mattered.
