Chapter 112: In Hand
October 19, 2022 Author: Great Demon Spirit
Ultimately, Tony acted cautiously, merely collecting some spring water in vessels and bringing it back, without rashly touching the Resurrection Spring itself.
Tony leaned forward and peered inside. This small pool of spring water seemed bottomless, its deep, dark color devouring all light, as if it could even consume a person's soul.
Luigi consistently gazed at the spring water with fervent eyes, despite his Court of Owls having possessed this spring for hundreds of years.
Nothing in this world appears out of thin air. This bottomless spring, capable of regularly replenishing its volume, might just be connected to Hell.
Hell, as a unique world independent of the universe, is self-contained, yet numerous dimension channels exist connecting it to many other universes. Demons invariably use these channels to reach other worlds.
For example, the simplest and most common method is for Summoning Magic users to draw a magic circle on the ground and summon Demons from the Hell Universe to fight for them. Although, many Rookie Mages eventually get devoured by the very Demons they summon.
Deepest within the Resurrection Spring, there might just be an ultra-small dimension channel linking two universes. No matter how stringent Kamar-Taj's defenses are, it would be impossible to seal off such tiny channels; there are always some that slip through.
"This must be a scheme laid by a Demon, to be activated when needed. A setup spanning hundreds of years must have a special purpose," Tony pondered secretly. He didn't mind assuming the worst about this mysterious substance of unknown origin.
Tony then questioned Luigi in detail about the spring water's history and any unusual events, but found nothing. There were no records; aside from longevity and recovery, nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. It was too quiet; the spring, which appeared out of nowhere, had maintained an eerie calm for centuries.
Earth must have something extraordinary about it. Various powerful figures were all laying out their plans on Earth, either through armed invasion, covert infiltration, or by planting chess pieces, ready to launch an all-out assault when the time was right.
"Heh, is this the prelude to the Infinity War... the Dark Elves stirring, the Hell Universe plotting meticulously, the Kryptonians sending their last child and the Codex of Life to Earth, the Guardians delivering Green Lantern Rings to Earthlings, the Overlord of Apokolips simply dropping a Mother Box onto Earth, the Symbiote Matriarch sending a small piece of offspring to create the Supervillain Venom..."
Tony chatted somewhat distractedly with Luigi, discussing insincere topics like cooperation and friendship, while his mind dwelled on other matters, filled with worry. He was still too weak; enhancing his strength was imperative. At the very least, he needed to quickly improve his actual combat power. The fastest and most convenient way was to start with the Allspark and raise his level. Level 4 was the minimum threshold for self-preservation, and only at level 5 could one truly move unhindered within a certain starfield.
When Tony walked out of Harbor Tower, he held a USB drive containing detailed information on Dionysium. He didn't attempt to verify its authenticity because he had no way to do so, only planning to use other methods after returning to New York. At the very least, the hope of a regenerative metal body was within reach; half the battle was won.
"Amanda, tell me, why does the Court of Owls, despite having so many Talons at its disposal, insist on confining itself to this small place, Gotham City? Why can't they learn from the League of Shadows and expand worldwide?" Tony put the USB drive into his pocket, driving idly, and casually asked the woman beside him.
"I don't know, sir. The thoughts of those elders are not for me to speculate on," Amanda replied plainly, her cherry-red lips parting slightly. She occasionally smiled kindly, but attempting further conversation with her, her elegant and otherworldly demeanor always gave off an air of keeping people at a thousand paces.
Amanda, an aide and liaison sent by the Falcone Family.
That old geezer Luigi claimed that to express the Falcone Family's friendship, they were willing to send a family member to follow Tony.
As for whether this "following" was surveillance or something else, that was open to interpretation. Tony didn't care about Amanda's intentions; if she was useful, he'd keep her; if she was harmful, he'd crush her. He and Luigi had reached a consensus: Tony would no longer deal deadly blows to the Court of Owls, and the Court of Owls would never trouble Tony again.
Luigi originally wanted to pull Tony into the fray, or rather, to board Tony's express train and leave this stagnant pool. The Court of Owls was like a constantly rotting piece of meat, slowly decaying into oblivion with the passage of time.
Tony had no objections and took Amanda with him casually as he left. He had considered taking Thomas Wayne but decided against it, realizing it would only add trouble.
Luigi and Tony were using each other, each obtaining what they desired. Tony, being outside, could serve as a retreat route for Luigi, and Luigi, in Gotham City, could be Tony's eyes and ears.
Perhaps there would be a time when they needed each other, or perhaps never—such was politics.
Tony casually cleaned the blood off his vehicle and drove straight into Gotham City. He drove very slowly the whole way because a large amount of Resurrection Spring water was loaded onto a Constructicon behind him. Tony would research this spring water as soon as he returned, then produce Dionysium metal.
As long as nothing amiss was discovered, he would use this regenerative metal to upgrade the Transformers. Future Transformers would then possess regenerative bodies. The long march had finally completed its first step; the next step was Wolverine's healing factor and special Adamantium skeletal structure.
One powerhouse after another was laying out plans on Earth, and Tony himself needed to accelerate his pace. A major battle could erupt at any time. Planning to enhance his own strength was one aspect; leveraging others' influence to deepen cooperation with major Factions was another. He needed to integrate a power unique to himself as much as possible, one that could play a crucial role at critical moments.
Although Earth had countless hidden agendas set by beings from innumerable dimensions, it also provided a tremendous opportunity for someone like Tony. He could foresightedly bring some lone wanderers into his own camp. At least on Earth, he could ensure he wouldn't be easily targeted, allowing him to calmly focus his primary attention on the Cosmos and the myriad dimensions.
Dionysium was his major bargaining chip. With it, he could at least make mortals flock to him.
The convoy gradually drove away. The sun had already shown a corner at the edge of the horizon, peeking out silently, radiating its selfless warmth, nurturing all things in the world.
Under the sunlight of Gotham City, all the sin, all the chess pieces had intertwined to their extreme, finally erupting amidst the pained curses of countless people. This outbreak would be a short-term conclusion.
