Chapter 103: They're Here
"Request granted, Mechanic tony. Authorization confirmed. Initiating precise targeting... Heading to your location, Mr. tony. Good luck," the synthetic voice of Jarvis, the AI butler, said from the communicator.
Before coming to Gotham City, tony had, besides painstakingly creating the Core Module, another major achievement. It was only partially complete, with intricate details yet unfinished, so tony chose to seal away this incomplete work.
He had originally thought he wouldn't need such a thing. Gotham City was, after all, a metropolis of tens of millions, and deploying such a massive contraption would be difficult. Moreover, due to its significant limitations and the difficulty of control, this unfinished creation had been sealed away.
But unexpectedly, by a stroke of fate, the perfect opportunity to deploy it had arrived. tony battled a large number of Talons, and this intense fighting was a great chance to use that massive contraption.
Tony Stark sat on the sofa. The luxurious hall was incredibly spacious, adorned with exquisite decorations and high-tech marvels that were impressive yet inexplicable, greatly enhancing Tony's aura. He listened to Jarvis's report with a hint of amusement, while watching several brilliant fiery trails rise into the night sky not far away, conspicuous against the darkness.
"Using that big guy so soon, it seems tony has run into big trouble in Gotham. Is an upgraded Optimus Prime still not enough? ...Jarvis, call Rhodey. Tell the Military that it's a new type of aircraft I've been testing. No need to panic."
Tony swirled his wine glass, a subtle smirk playing on his lips. Speaking of which, he had helped quite a bit when building that behemoth, though it was mostly transporting materials and watching the spectacle; tony had accomplished all the actual work from scratch, which truly dropped his jaw. Although he didn't know why tony wanted him to keep it a secret, especially from close acquaintances, this didn't diminish his sense of pride. Any technological product that passed through his, Tony Stark's, hands was bound to be extraordinary.
Large numbers of Talons charged at tony, fearless of death. As the ones in front fell, those behind them stepped over their predecessors' corpses without hesitation, rushing forward. Some Talons weren't killed in time. Although the Allspark could attack their body structure at a microscopic level, it was ultimately a single burst of particle energy, limited in quantity. The Dionysium implanted in their bodies would work with their flesh and blood to continuously repair damage.
Although the recovery speed was significantly reduced, they were still recovering. Once restored, they would get up and rejoin the battle. tony had an inexplicable feeling, watching these killers constantly repair their injuries and fearlessly face death. It felt like fighting a pack of Sabretooths, exchanging injuries... though he had never actually met a Sabretooth.
Arcee continuously leaped and rolled, her two longswords taking several lives with each swing, severed heads making their revival impossible. tony, Optimus Prime, and Arcee formed a triangle, providing fire suppression against the Talons.
"There are too many of them, and their lethality is truly strong... Even their melee weapons are super alloys. Even at top speed, flying from New York to Gotham City takes time; we need to hold on a bit longer."
tony frowned. The primary material of the Transformers was still Titanium Alloy, and facing the Talons' weapons still caused damage, even if only a slight surface mark. But... these Talons were as precise as robots!
If one Talon stabbed you, and another enemy charged from the same direction, they would still stab in the exact same spot, repeatedly, with an annoying and repulsive precision. The Talons are the Court of Owls' greatest weapon, after all... Don't owls catch their prey with their talons?
The leading Talon, who was also the only living person, observed coldly. tony calling Jarvis had not escaped his notice. Although he couldn't hear what was being said in the chaotic battlefield, he could understand by reading lips.
tony was summoning reinforcements; they had to speed up. The commotion tonight was already big enough! The leader silently thought. Every time the Court of Owls mobilized, there had to be bloodshed, there had to be deaths. Failure was not an option! Failure meant the Court's existence would be exposed! The high-ranking individuals in the Court would never allow such a thing to happen; they had lived for hundreds of years and cherished their lives greatly.
A figure appeared, a sharp blade thrusting towards tony's chest. tony ignored it, firing his gun at the assailant's head. Two sounds rang out simultaneously: the clang of metal and the gunshot.
The moment the Talon fell, a dark hole appeared on its forehead, and then tony severed its head with a blade, ensuring it was irrevocably dead. A mere hole wasn't enough; completely removing the heads of these Talons was the best strategy.
Even now, the consumption of Allspark within his mind was astonishing. Ever since his fight with Bruce, he had relentlessly faced the Court of Owls, even directly using energy weapons. If Optimus Prime and Arcee didn't have Core Modules inside them, the total consumption would have been several times higher.
Numerous enemies were attacking, and he didn't know how many more he had to kill before it would end.
"You possess powerful combat abilities, but unfortunately, you are all soulless puppets. No matter how strong your power, it is ultimately limited." Several cuts appeared on tony's face, blood trickling down his cheeks. He had pushed his physical limits, yet injury was still unavoidable.
Optimus Prime and Arcee's bodies showed damage; after all, they weren't organic bodies and couldn't self-regenerate. Every time tony saw his Transformers damaged, he felt a pang of heartache. How wonderful it would be if he had metal made with Dionysium. Using Dionysium to resurrect the dead was a waste; true resurrection was not that simple.
"Enough to kill you. Many people thought they could resist the Court, but everyone who held that thought became a corpse. Are you afraid? But you don't need to worry; your treatment will be elevated. You are qualified to become one of us; your strong body is qualified to be augmented by us."
"You will soon become a new 'Talon.' The Court hasn't received fresh assassins for some time."
The voice was elusive, seemingly coming from everyone in the crowd, yet also from no one. He was using this method to interfere with tony, searching for a one-hit kill opportunity.
"Too bad, you won't get that chance." In tony's mind, the Allspark pulsed slightly, perceiving several profound connections in the sky gradually tightening, familiar Allspark energy bridging the distance.
In the dark night sky, six massive containers flew at high speed, tearing through the air, roaring as they approached. The tail of each container had four flaming thruster devices, leaving long trails in the darkness...
This was the strongest Combiner tony could currently build, over twenty meters tall, specially designed for large-scale warfare! Devastator!!!
