Chapter 459

456

"While I'm happy about your decision, I must remind you that joining the Global Defense Agency is a very serious matter. Are you sure you've thought it through?"

Sunlight streamed through the glass, casting itself across one side of Director Cecil's face.

At this moment, his expression was solemn as he spoke with great earnestness, "If you're only choosing to join the Global Defense Agency to find out Omni-Man's identity, then I'd advise you to reconsider. After all, it's not easy to quit once you've joined."

"Listen to you. I've never regretted a decision I've made."

As soon as Xia Shang's voice fell, Cecil nodded, took a few photos from his pocket, and placed them on the table.

"If I were my old self, I would have never brought you into the Global Defense Agency."

He pushed the photos toward Xia Shang. "In my view, you possess all the characteristics of a supervillain."

"Because no normal person would go looking for trouble with a superhero like Omni-Man. This indicates that you have extreme confidence in your own strength and a disregard for Omni-Man's status as a guardian."

"After being defeated by Omni-Man, you immediately sought out his family in an attempt to provoke him."

"This proves once again that not only are you belligerent, but you also hold a grudge. Most importantly, you have no ties like a family, so it seems you can do whatever you please."

"Fortunately, you still have some semblance of a bottom line and didn't harm his family. Otherwise, the consequences would have been truly unimaginable."

"You might not even realize it yourself, but you almost detonated a nuclear bomb—one capable of blowing the entire world to pieces."

At this, Xia Shang picked up the photos, glanced through them, and then a playful smile emerged on his face.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Comparing Omni-Man to a nuclear bomb, and you're secretly monitoring him. It seems he really is dangerous."

Cecil, dressed in a sharp suit, shook his head slightly, his face calm. "We only accessed the surveillance cameras near his home to ensure the safety of the Grayson family. After all, with the commotion you two caused, it's perfectly normal for us to monitor the surrounding area."

"A feeble and powerless lie, utterly unconvincing."

Xia Shang threw his hands up. "Forget it. I'm more concerned about Omni-Man's identity right now."

After a few seconds of silence, Director Cecil slowly began to speak. "After I became the director of the Global Defense Agency, during an unexpected incident, I made contact with the hero fighting the monster. He was Omni-Man, Nolan Grayson."

"According to him, he comes from a planet called Viltrum. That planet exists in our solar system and has an ecosystem very similar to Earth's, but it is far more advanced, whether in technology or other aspects."

"And on their planet, there is an organization called the World Betterment Committee."

"When the members of this organization come of age, they leave Viltrum to venture into the galaxy."

"At the same time, they bear a mission: to use their talents to help developing planets. And the planet Omni-Man chose was Earth."

After speaking, Cecil took a sip of juice from his cup to wet his throat.

"Sounds like a plot from a movie. A highly advanced planet extending a helping hand to other planets. Hmm, logically, it's barely plausible, provided that Viltrum is really that benevolent."

Xia Shang looked at Cecil with a half-smile.

"I'm sure the information above is all from Omni-Man's side of the story. Don't you suspect he's lying?"

"Why would I? The facts prove that he's done everything he said he would. He is genuinely helping Earth and ensuring the safety of the planet and humanity."

Looking at Director Cecil's unchanging expression, Xia Shang couldn't help but chuckle. "Mr. Cecil, you truly are a genius at playing dumb."

With that, he stood up and extended his right hand to Cecil.

"I'm pleased to be joining the Global Defense Agency."

"Welcome aboard."

The moment their palms touched, Xia Shang looked into Cecil's eyes and whispered, "You know Omni-Man is lying, don't you?"

Director Cecil then answered unconsciously, "That's right. The scientists at the Global Defense Agency deduced from Nolan's heart rate, breathing rhythm, and pupil dilation that everything he said was a lie."

"But I don't care what his real purpose for coming to Earth is."

"As long as he genuinely helps protect the planet, I don't care if I'm making a deal with the devil. Because that's my job."

"So you sought me out to find someone strong enough to keep him in check?"

"You're no match for Omni-Man. I want you to join the Agency to protect you. With this status, he won't dare to move against you so easily."

Hearing this, Xia Shang released his mental control over Cecil and said with a smile, as if nothing had happened, "Director, now that I've joined the Global Defense Agency, what do you need me to do?"

Cecil felt a bit dazed but didn't think much of it, attributing it to long work hours and lack of rest recently.

He said, somewhat wearily, "After you've handled three criminal incidents and built up some reputation and fame, I'll place you in the Guardians Team."

"I can't give you the team leader position, but I can make you the deputy leader. Before that, however, you'll have to put on a dazzling performance, or else the guys in the Guardians Team might not respect you."

He then added, "I'll have someone send over a communicator later. You can consider yourself a provisional member of the Guardians Team for now."

"OK."

…………

A week later, Xia Shang, dressed in his battle suit, stood atop a skyscraper, looking down on the city below.

His current look was similar to Batman's.

His pitch-black battlesuit was adorned with silver patterns outlining stars, countless of which converged to flow across his body like a galaxy.

In addition, his billowing cape featured a pattern of orbiting stars, giving off an impression that could be summed up in two words: mysterious and powerful!

BANG!!!

A few gunshots shattered the city's peace.

Like a falcon, Xia Shang leaped down, weaving effortlessly between the city's buildings.

Just then, however, he saw a figure wearing a yellow bandana and strange goggles, stumbling through the air toward the sound of the gunshots, as clumsy as a fledgling that had just learned to fly.

"Mark?"

With his X-ray vision, Xia Shang recognized the figure's true identity at a glance.

As if realizing something, he immediately looked up into the sky.

Sure enough, Omni-Man, in his uniform with his arms crossed over his chest, was standing firm in the azure sky, braving the howling wind as he gazed calmly down below.

"This guy's got some serious control issues."

Ignoring the glance Omni-Man shot his way, Xia Shang teleported and then dived into a small alley.

He arrived just in time to see Mark send a rock-man flying.

"Buddy, this prey is mine."

Before Mark could get up, Xia Shang, who had suddenly appeared behind him, planted a solid foot on his back, nearly making Mark cough up blood.
