Chapter 404

Chapter 404 Gambit! Remy LeBeau!

The silver-haired young man's gaze swept over the man, and he couldn't help but exclaim in admiration.

"Want to gamble? How about some blackjack?" The man raised an eyebrow, looking at the silver-haired young man as if he were a juicy, ripe mark. There was nothing he could do; plane tickets were just too expensive. The airfare alone from Las Vegas to Washington D.C., USA had drained most of his savings.

Although he was a regular at casinos and his skills were decent, having made a lot of money over the years with his craft, the saying "the house always wins" wasn't a joke. Every time he made a bit of money, it would flow out even faster before he could even warm it up. Therefore, he wasn't exactly rolling in money; in fact, he was heavily in debt.

Coming to Washington D.C., USA this time, besides wanting to see what Jie Er Company was all about, was mainly to avoid creditors and lay low.

Of course, if he could make some money in the process, that would be wonderful as well.

"My mom didn't give me any money when I left home." The silver-haired young man shook his head. Ever since his dad mysteriously disappeared over a decade ago, it was just him and his mom. He didn't have a job, so they basically lived off his mom's meager salary. Plus, he wasn't very interested in money himself, so he only had a dozen US Dollars on him.

He didn't even have money for an airplane ticket. Instead, he relied on his ability, sneaking and hiding in the airplane's Bathroom to be brought to Washington. This kind of behavior is commonly known as fare evasion.

"That's a real shame." The man could only suppress his gambling urge and looked at Xia Shang standing on the steps.

"Hard to imagine you'd carry a whole deck of playing cards with you."

The silver-haired young man suddenly flashed, appearing to the man's right, and a deck of playing cards appeared in his hand.

"Give me back my cards." The young man's action made the man realize that the other party was also a Mutant.

"OK."

The young man seemed to barely move, and the playing cards in his hand turned into a driver's license. He flipped open the document, looked at the photo on it, and said, "Remy LeBeau, is this your name?"

Gambit's gaze instantly darkened. He said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Were you hired to kill me, or do I owe you money?"

"Neither. I'm just a shut-in who's interested in games." The young man handed the document back to Gambit and casually added, "Sorry."

"If what you're saying is true, then I am Remy LeBeau."

Gambit ungraciously took back his driver's license and stuffed it into his pocket.

"If this were in Las Vegas, I'd blast you into mangled flesh." Gambit hated it when people touched his things, especially playing cards. He flipped his hand, producing a King card, and injected energy into it. Instantly, the King in his hand glowed with a faint red light, as if containing extremely violent energy, leaking a trace of dangerous aura.

"kindred?" The silver-haired young man wasn't scared at all; instead, he stared at the playing cards between Gambit's fingers with great interest.

"What? Is this your first time encountering a Mutant?"

Gambit was a bit surprised. At the same time, he could sense that the young man didn't seem hostile towards him, so he put away his cards and grunted.

"Like I said, I'm a shut-in. Besides playing games, I also like playing ping pong by myself." The young man withdrew his gaze and said with a smile to Gambit, "Pietro Django Maximoff, you can call me Pete." Little did they know, at this very moment, a seventeen or eighteen-year-old young man was staring intently at them.

The young man was wearing a well-fitting white suit with light gold patterns embroidered on the collar. Additionally, what was particularly unusual was a slight bulge under the clothes on the young man's back. Just as he was about to walk towards the two, two burly men in black appeared beside him.

"Young Master, it's very dangerous here. There are government snipers hidden nearby." One of the burly men in black reached out to stop the young man and continued in a low voice, "Your true identity must not be exposed. We suspect this might be a trap set by the government to hunt Mutants."

The young man stopped and slightly frowned.

"That's impossible, right? Doesn't the establishment of Jie Er Company mean the government's attitude towards Mutants has softened?"

"It's still uncertain. According to information from within the Family, the government's attitude towards Mutants has indeed changed significantly, but that doesn't mean they won't take action against Mutants."

The burly men in black wanted to take the young man away, but under the young man's strong resistance, they could only reluctantly give up.

"Alright, but you can't leave our line of sight. After all, the master only has you as an heir, and you absolutely cannot have any accident." Several burly men in black surrounded the young man like an iron barrel, as if facing a formidable enemy, attracting many side glances.

Meanwhile.

The blonde female Reporter standing beside Xia Shang held up her microphone and pressed for an answer, "Mr. Jervis, could you please explain to us the difference between Mutants and Superheroes?"

"Of course."

Xia Shang didn't keep them in suspense. He said, "I believe everyone has a deep impression of the White House Incident that happened recently. The appearance of Butcher means the personal safety of the American people is in grave danger. In this increasingly harsh environment, if we still treat Mutants with discrimination, exclusion, and even hatred, as we have in the past..."

"...then I believe there will be more and more Mutants like Butcher in the future. By then, the war between Mutants and humans will likely break out completely. Countless happy and complete Families will be torn apart by the war. Even if we ultimately achieve victory, it will be meaningless. The dead will not be resurrected, and the living will be plunged into long and sorrowful pain."

Many people in the audience nodded in agreement. After all, the Vietnam War hadn't ended yet. Although it was a war of aggression launched by the United States against Vietnam, the haze brought by the war still hung over the heads of the ordinary humans of the United States.

It was precisely because they had witnessed the tragic suffering of those countries at war that they were even more afraid of war coming to them.

"Is it that serious? After all, Mutants only make up a small portion of us ordinary humans." The blonde female Reporter frowned.

"Leaving other things aside for now, just one Butcher is enough to stir up chaos in the United States. He possesses flight speed comparable to a fighter jet and can even launch fireballs, causing widespread destruction to Ground buildings."

Xia Shang knew exactly how to create the public's demand for Superheroes. It was by exploiting the unease and panic deep within their hearts. Only then would they realize that they needed Superheroes to protect themselves.

"What the person On Stage said is right. I don't want to be walking down the Street and suddenly get blown up by a fireball."

"I've been paying tax for nothing. Those government guys still haven't caught Butcher."
