Chapter 780 Source of Fear - Mysterious Wildman
Divine Spear Bureau Ring Fortress.
Director Zheng Xian was currently sitting in the Command Center, listening to the report from his subordinates.
After the Three Emperors Squad retreated, the Giants in Shennongjia were handed over to an Army to handle, but the situation at the Scene did not improve.
These Giants appeared to be flesh and blood, but in fact, each one was equivalent to a War Vehicle. Ordinary Guns could not penetrate their Skin at all, and only Large Caliber Guns could cause some Damage.
To Damage these Giants, Cannonballs or Missiles were necessary, but the terrain of Shennongjia made it impossible to transport Tanks in. If the Giants kept hiding in Shennongjia, the Military really had no Method to deal with them.
Just when the Military thought these Giants would retreat into Shennongjia for a protracted war, these Giants actually exceeded their expectations and emerged from Shennongjia.
The Army, which had remained vigilant, engaged in Battle with the Giants. The result was shocking. Just ten Giants routed the Army, even after they deployed Heavy Firepower based on the Divine Spear Bureau's recommendation.
If they had followed the initial plan and only deployed with light equipment, it was unimaginable what kind of defeat they would have suffered. Annihilation was a distinct possibility.
Having witnessed the Giants' formidable Combat Power, and based on the Data brought back by the Three Emperors Squad, and considering that there were hundreds of Giants hiding in Shennongjia, the higher-ups immediately decided that even if they had to abandon the entire Shennongjia, they would annihilate these Giants.
So, several Warplanes were dispatched to Shennongjia, carrying Missiles of sufficient yield, intending to annihilate all the Giants in one strike.
But this confident attack was met with News that all the Giants had vanished. According to the Pilot's report from the Warplane, they had flown over the entire Shennongjia but could not find a single Giant in the sky.
Some thought the Giants had hidden themselves, but this was quickly dismissed. Hiding one Giant in Shennongjia might be difficult to detect, but there were hundreds of Giants, each around five meters tall.
Even Shennongjia couldn't conceal such a massive group of Creatures.
Someone then proposed a theory: had the Giants used some kind of Magic to conceal themselves, preventing the Pilots from finding them?
After all, Magic and Witchcraft were very mysterious to modern Humans. Even within the Divine Spear Bureau, few possessed related Skills, so this theory was quickly accepted by most.
However, just as everyone was in Discussion, the vanished Giants suddenly appeared in the City.
Only then did everyone realize that the Giants hadn't used any cloaking Magic, but Teleportation-type Magic to move their main Troops from Shennongjia.
Helpless, everyone could only choose to pursue the Giants, mobilizing the Army while evacuating the People. Of course, being in the Downtown Area, large-scale destructive Weapons were out of the question.
Zheng Xian's expression was grave. He recalled Ji Shuangshuang's Report upon her return, that the Giants' Leader had taken up a Sky Hammer. The Purpose of their raid on Shennongjia was to retrieve that Sky Hammer under their Protection.
Now that the Giants had left Shennongjia, did this mean the Sky Hammer had found its wielder?
…
"Huff~ Huff~"
In the snow-covered Shennongjia Primeval Forest, a Figure darted between the Trees. The Figure's Speed wasn't particularly fast, but it skillfully used the Trees for cover, almost always moving in Shadow.
Like a Beast, it was hard to spot.
Finally, the Figure stopped after climbing an ancient Tree. He extended his Talons, digging them into the Tree trunk to steady himself. Surprisingly, despite the Figure's unremarkable Body Size, the Tree supporting him groaned under the Weight.
This was an ancient Tree that took a full arm's span to encircle, sturdy enough to support a Car. Where did this small Figure get such Weight?
The Figure wanted to survey the Situation ahead, so he cautiously poked his Head out, exposing half his Face to the Sunlight. It revealed a savage Face and Hair that stood up like Beast Ears.
This peculiar hairstyle combined with the man's Face made him resemble a Wolverine lurking in the Bushes.
Seeing the Giants encamped in the distance, the man bared his Teeth and lowered his Head, pondering a Method. But he had been isolated from Human Society for too long. His Brain was used to simple tasks. Now, suddenly needing to devise a Method, he struggled to come up with anything effective.
After all, he usually only dealt with Beasts, at most avoiding Humans trying to photograph Wild Men. He rarely needed to think deeply.
Normally, any significant disturbance in the Forest would send him scurrying into hiding. But today, for some reason, he kept hearing a Sound in his Heart.
This Sound had begun after the Meteor fell last night. The man had always lived deep in the Forest, and his slow Footsteps meant it took him considerable Time to reach the Location of the Meteor impact.
When he arrived, he saw a group of neatly dressed people, like the Military. They had secured the Meteor impact site, and the man couldn't break through. Helpless, he retreated, intending to plan a longer approach.
Unexpectedly, less than half a day later, another loud noise came from the Meteor's Direction. This time, the Army personnel were gone, replaced by a group of large, bizarre Creatures – the Giants before him.
The man was caught between a rock and a hard place. If he could avoid it, he really didn't want to interact with others, but the Sound in his Heart kept urging him on.
The Sound told him that contact with the Meteor would Answer all his past questions, and he wouldn't have to live in hiding anymore.
'Giants shouldn't count as ordinary humans.'
With this Idea, the man retracted his Talons from the Tree, and just before falling, he re-inserted them vertically, letting his Weight carry him to the Ground.
Using his Talons as brakes, the man landed silently. As he pulled his Talons free, the once-solid Tree trunk split into four and began to topple.
The Cut Surface of the Tree trunk was incredibly smooth, demonstrating the man's Talons were sharper than any ordinary person could imagine.
Next, the man slowed his Footsteps, steadily approaching the Bushes near the Giants' encampment. Although he had made a Choice, he couldn't just charge in like a Beast.
These Giants weren't just for show. He was confident he could take on one or two head-on, but there were hundreds here. Stealth was the better approach.
