Chapter 620 Old New York Status Quo
In the dimly lit Underground Garage, Reed was scribbling on a Wall. Looking closely, one could see that the Wall was already covered with quite a few 'Cryptic Symbols'.
These Cryptic Symbols were actually special symbols from mathematics or other disciplines. They were mostly grouped in sets of two or three symbols, but there wasn't much connection between the symbols in each group, so they looked like Cryptic Symbols.
In the blink of an eye, Reed had drawn another set of symbols. These symbols looked chaotic and messy, and in fact, they were exactly that. Only Reed could understand these Cryptic Symbols.
These were all Codes that he had come up with on the spot. However, these Codes were not used to record events; they were actually some kind of code, recorded purely to help Reed recall things he had memorized, a kind of Associative Memory Method.
However, only he could use this thing. Susan and the others felt that using this Method would only increase the difficulty of Memory.
He carefully put the Charcoal Pencil in his Fanny Pack. Resources were scarce now, and Reed couldn't bear to waste even a small Charcoal Pencil.
Realizing his own actions, Reed couldn't help but sigh. He didn't know when these Days would end. Even though he wasn't a materialistic person like Johnny, he couldn't stand the Days they were living now.
Reed wanted to thoroughly Research the period that had occurred to himself and the others. In his view, they were simply untapped Treasure Troves, but due to the lack of various professional Equipment, Reed could only Test some basic, extremely basic Data.
Clearly, the unknown was right in front of him, but he couldn't unravel it. For Reed, this was no different from the most cruel torture in the World, making him anxious and helpless.
Shaking his Head, driving the unhappy Things out of his Brain, Reed lowered his Head and glanced at his Watch. It was almost Time for Breakfast, Susan should be coming to call him.
Sure enough, familiar Footsteps came from behind Reed. He slowly turned his Head and saw Susan walking into his Room. She was wearing Jeans on her lower body and a men's Plaid Shirt on her upper body.
There was no other way, Resources were scarce, and it was good enough to have Clothes to wear. The Plaid Shirt Susan was wearing was already the most intact and clean Clothes they could find.
But even such a Plaid Shirt, loved by Otaku and older men, couldn't detract from Susan's looks. She only buttoned the top two buttons of the Plaid Shirt and then tied up the long hem.
A Plaid Shirt was actually modified by her into a Bikini, looking very sexy. Reed couldn't help but take a few more glances.
"It's Time for Breakfast, Reed." Susan smoothed her Hair. "It's still chickpea Canned Food today."
"Then I think Johnny must be complaining again," Reed said with a smile.
Chickpea Canned Food, a classic American canned food, but its taste wasn't very good. Eating it was purely for filling the belly and couldn't satisfy the palate.
"Having something to eat is already good enough." Susan had a headache just thinking about Johnny's fussing. No one liked to eat chickpea Canned Food, at least not among their group.
"Johnny is just complaining," Reed said, comforting Susan as they walked. "That's just his Personality. He's always complaining, but he's actually very clear-headed in his Heart."
"That's why he'll never grow up." Susan ended the Topic. In this Environment, few people could maintain a Good Mood. Johnny was like this, and so was Susan.
Currently, the only ones who haven't been affected much are Reed and Ben. The former is because he is too smart, so he has always been very reasonable and won't let those negative emotions affect him.
The latter is because he originally had a Good Personality. Although becoming the Thing made him depressed for several Days, Ben wouldn't vent his temper on his Friends.
Susan and her brother were just disliking each other. At first, Reed and Ben were worried that the two would quarrel, but later they found that although the siblings were constantly arguing, they reconciled very quickly. Their quarrels were more like mutual venting, so they stopped interfering.
After all, none of the four were idiots. They knew that internal friction was not allowed under any Situation. Now, the changing situation outside required them to unite as one.
Only by supporting each other can they be reassured.
As soon as they reached the Hall, sure enough, Johnny was no longer complaining. He was pulling Ben to replay an old Soccer game. The latter looked very interested, and his two Stone brows were constantly twitching.
"Finally here." Johnny noticed the two who had just walked in. "I thought you guys were going to wait until Dinner to eat together."
"I was calculating some Data, and Susan waited for a while before notifying me."
Reed smiled and sat on a Metal Block. This was pressed out by Ben using a Motorcycle. There were Ben's fingerprints on the irregular Metal Block, and a Car Seat was laid on top to avoid pricking his Butt.
The Table they ate at was also a Car flattened by Ben. These were by-products left over from Testing Ben's Strength, and they were just right for waste utilization.
"The Serpent Gang seems to be getting more and more rampant." Ben carefully poked open the Canned Food with his Finger. "I heard it on the Radio Station. It seems someone made a simple Radio Station and wanted to call for help from outside."
"Is there such a Thing? When did it happen? How come I don't know?" Johnny frowned and ate a mouthful of beans.
"This morning. Weren't you out scavenging Supplies today? Of course, you didn't hear what happened."
Ben, like Popeye, poured the bean Canned Food into his Mouth, without even chewing. He touched his Mouth and continued.
"They said they stole Supplies from the Serpent Gang and were discovered by them. Helplessly, they could only call for help from outside. Tonight, the Serpent Gang will raid their Camp. They are already desperate."
"Dare to steal Supplies from the Serpent Gang?" Johnny widened his Eyes. "Those Guys are all Cold-Blooded Animals. I heard their Leader even eats Humans."
"Don't talk about such disgusting Topics during Breakfast." Susan glared at Johnny in dissatisfaction. The latter also knew that he had indeed said inappropriate Words and could only scratch his Head to change the Topic.
"Then what should we do? Just leave it alone?"
The Restaurant became quiet for a Time, and even the sound of spoons clinking disappeared. After a while, Ben's Voice slowly sounded.
"I want to go. I heard the Crying of a Child on the Radio Station."
"Is there such a Thing? Then you have to count me in." Johnny raised a Brow. "We two are good Partners. When the Time comes, you'll be at the front, and I'll set Fire in the back. It's simply a perfect combination."
As the two said this, their Eyes glanced at Reed, who was eating, in unison. After all, he was the backbone of this Team.
