Chapter 567 Soul Stone and the Fifth General

"Swish!"

The purple and gloomy sky and dilapidated buildings filled his eyes. Everything before him made Thanos feel a bit dazed. This place was just like the planets he had destroyed before, devoid of any vitality.

After stepping out of the portal, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight consciously moved to Thanos's presence, acting as guards. Even though their master was countless times stronger than them, the necessary etiquette could not be omitted.

The three of them started walking forward along the only road underfoot, until a figure hidden under a black robe appeared before them.

Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight immediately raised their weapons, blades and gun tips pointing at the figure before them simultaneously. But the latter showed no fear, and instead calmly opening his mouth.

"Welcome, Son of A'lars, Universe Emperor Thanos, and Leader of the Black Order Corvus Glaive and his wife Proxima Midnight."

"You seem to know us?" Thanos stared at the black-robed figure before him, waiting for the other party to give an explanation.

"Since I came here, I have been cursed." The black-robed figure raised his head, and in the dim light Thanos and the others could clearly see the figure's appearance. The scarlet skull face was indeed unique.

Red Skull slowly opening his mouth: "I know everyone who comes here, just like you."

"Where is the Soul Stone?" Thanos went straight to the purpose.

"It's right here." Red Skull slightly moved his body aside. "But I must warn you, obtaining it comes at a great price."

"I am prepared." Thanos's expression remained peaceful. "Always have been."

Having received the answer, Red Skull stopped the nonsense, signaled for everyone to follow, and turned to walk away. While Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight were still hesitating, Thanos had already strode forward to follow.

After walking along a road that was neither long nor short, they arrived at the summit. Two huge stone pillars pierced straight into the sky, like two door posts. The small road sandwiched in between led directly to the cliff.

"This is empty!" Corvus Glaive sternly rebuked Red Skull. "Are you playing us?"

"If it were the me of the past, perhaps." Red Skull sighed. "A long time ago, I also pursued these supreme powers, though not as legendary as you, but I did once touch one of them myself."

"It's a pity I am not the destined one. It abandoned me and discarded me here, leading others to treasure, but I myself can never obtain it."

"What does this mean?" Thanos walked to the edge of the cliff, asking Red Skull beside him.

"The Soul Stone is different." Red Skull explanation. "Its status is lofty, and to obtain it, one must pass a test."

"Tell me, what does it require?" Thanos's tone brooked no refusal.

"To ensure the user understands its power and its uniqueness, the Soul Stone requires your sacrifice." A strange light flashed in Red Skull's gaze.

"To obtain it, you must sacrifice the soul of your beloved, soul for soul."

After hearing Red Skull's words, everyone present exchanged glances. A bad premonition rose in Proxima Midnight's heart, and she immediately opening her mouth to speak.

"We will immediately go and capture two truly loving humans, please grant us some time, Your Majesty."

"No need." Thanos didn't turn around, still staring at the bottomless abyss underfoot, only the Mind Stone on his hand lit up with an eerie light.

"Clang!"

Proxima Midnight's body began to tremble uncontrollably, even the Proxima Spear in her hand slipped and fell to the ground. Corvus Glaive beside her was also affected. The two of them walked towards the cliff together.

"You shouldn't have spoken." Red Skull shook his head. The moment Proxima Midnight opened her mouth, everything was already decided.

Here, only Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive shared a bond that could be called true love. If she hadn't spoken, it would have shown she didn't care about Corvus Glaive's life and death, but she did speak and eagerly sought a substitute.

Whose substitute? A substitute for her beloved.

"No! Your Majesty! No!" Proxima Midnight roared. Before her was Corvus Glaive, just one step from the cliff. Under the control of the Mind Stone, her hand was relentlessly reaching towards her beloved.

"Snap."

Finally, before Proxima Midnight was nothing. Her beloved, who had been blocking her view, vanished without a trace. Instead, a gem shining with orange light appeared in her hand.

"Thanos!" Proxima Midnight roared in anger. Turning around, she waved her palm forward, and the Proxima Spear lying on the ground immediately flew into her hand. Just now, the Soul Stone had told her that Corvus Glaive, her beloved, would never return.

Orange light bloomed instantly. Proxima Midnight held the gem in one hand and the spear in the other, determined to fight Thanos to the death.

But Thanos merely snapped his fingers. After a flash of red light, Proxima Midnight, who had just been so awe-inspiring, turned into a pile of petals. The Soul Stone, now without a holder, fell to the ground but was summoned into Thanos's hand by the Space Stone.

Pinching up the Soul Stone, he embedded it into the opening. Looking at the single remaining opening, Thanos murmured, "One more to go."

He snapped his fingers again, and the petals transformed from Proxima Midnight gathered together once more. After a brief reorganization, they formed a new figure.

Snow-white from head to toe, with the same blue face as Proxima Midnight hidden beneath a white hood. The slender figure knelt before Thanos immediately after appearing.

"Thanos, my lord, please bestow a name upon me."

"Supergiant." Thanos faintly uttered a name. "I bestow upon you supreme power. Help me find that last gem; it is on Earth."

"Your will be done." Supergiant slowly raised her head, revealing a charming smile.

"What are we going to do now?" Rocket looked at the distant blue planet. Even as a space veteran, he had to admit that Earth's beauty was top-tier in the universe.

But at this moment, this beautiful planet was surrounded by a densely packed fleet. Obviously, just as Gamora had guessed, Thanos's fleet was still here. This proved they weren't too late, but...

"How are we supposed to get in?" Rocket patted the control panel before him. "These insects haven't even left us an opening!"

"Rushing in rashly, we'll just become space junk." Star-Lord was still cold, but at least he was communicating.

Gamora also frowned. She hadn't expected Thanos to deploy his entire fleet, leaving none to guard home, looking as if he wouldn't give up until he achieved his purpose.

Just when everyone was at a loss, a strange sound suddenly rang out.

"I believe I can help with this."

A gentle and peaceful sound, easy to gain favor. But for the Guardians of the Galaxy, who had just experienced something similar, this was more terrifying than anything.

"Who's there!" Star-Lord immediately drew his dual guns, aiming randomly at something. The rest of them were also like frightened birds.

"Wait, everyone." Mantis stopped the others. "This sound is coming from inside our brains."
