Chapter 550: Covered in Wounds
Steve opened his eyes and suddenly sat up. Judging from his terrified gaze and heavy breath, he must have had a nightmare.
Steve covered his head. After a brief moment of thought, he remembered what he was experiencing before he fainted. With a kip-up, he sprang up from the ground, crouching defensively as he surveyed his surroundings, and pressed the button on his hand armor to summon his shield.
"Whoosh!" After the sound of air being torn, the shield smoothly returned to his hand. Only then did he clearly see the environment around him. He was currently in a room that resembled a dormitory. The entire room was estimated to be less than ten square meters.
And he himself was currently crouching on a single bed. The white bed sheet was possibly covered in a thin layer of dust due to prolonged disuse, but it didn't affect its usability. However, the several clear footprints on it looked awkward no matter how you looked at them.
Steve compared the boot on his foot, and indeed, they were made by him. After a silence of less than a second, he obediently got off the bed and began to observe his surroundings.
"It looks like a teenager's room," Steve commented, but he didn't dare to guarantee it, because he had seen some plastic figurines like these at the homes of several friends.
After a simple search, Steve didn't find anything useful. So he quietly walked to the doorway with light footsteps. There was no door handle on the door, only two buttons embedded in the wall next to it, one red and one green. It was obvious that one of them should be the door opening button.
According to human thought, Steve hesitated again and again but still pressed the green button. Unexpectedly, the door really opened. He quietly poked his head out and just in time to see a sturdy back view not far away.
He was so familiar with that back view that he couldn't be more familiar. It was a member of the Plumbers who had supported them before, the Plumber agent code-named Gutrot. He would never mistake that black and white uniform and unique skin.
But out of safety considerations, Steve still didn't rashly open his mouth to greet him. He slowed his footsteps and approached Gutrot at a constant speed. When Steve was less than five meters distance from him, Gutrot opened his mouth.
"Awake? How was your sleep?"
Steve's body stiffened, and he unconsciously clenched his fist. For a moment, he didn't even know how to answer him.
Gutrot was currently sitting on a swivel chair, but the size of the swivel chair didn't seem to match his figure no matter how you looked at it, making people wonder if the chair would fall apart in the next second.
A slight creaking sound came. It turned out that Gutrot had turned the chair, turned his body sideways to look at Steve behind him, and at the same time, he also revealed the scene hidden behind his sturdy body.
Behind Gutrot was an oval long table. It looked like a dining table or something similar, but at this time, there were no delicacies placed on it, but rather a human. He knew that human, it was his good teammate Clint.
At this time, Clint was lying face-up on the dining table. His upper garment was stripped off, revealing his lean body. There were many scars distributed on it, burns, knife wounds, gun wounds, everything. It was simply an encyclopedia of injuries.
The sunglasses he always wore were also gone without a trace, revealing the wound that Clint himself had always wanted to hide. Below his forehead was a pair of dark and empty eye sockets. His eyeball and eyelids had disappeared without a trace.
Steve was a little anxious seeing his teammate like this. Just as he was about to open his mouth, he was preempted by Gutrot beside him, who stopped him from speaking.
"I find it hard to imagine how this man managed to get himself into this state. There are fifty-three wounds of all sizes on his body. Those eyes, if the injury were any more serious, his life might not be guaranteed."
"But even with such serious injuries, there are four places on his body. Captain, I really want to know what exactly happened here after we left?"
Steve didn't answer Gutrot's problem, instead, he first asked his own problem: "Can you heal him?"
"Eyes are impossible," Gutrot replied with his arms crossed. "His eyeballs are already gone, I have no way to regenerate his eyeball, but if I can find suitable ones, I can find a method to help him transplant them."
Because of Gutrot's ability, while mastering vast chemical knowledge, he also mastered various physiological knowledge. So Gutrot is also one of the few characters in the Omnitrix who can act as a healer.
Relying on that heaven-defying compound synthesis ability, Gutrot can heal most injuries and illnesses. But Clint's case has been delayed for too long. If it was when he was just injured, Gutrot would still have the confidence to heal him, but now it's impossible.
"As long as there's hope," Steve breathed a sigh of relief. "To be honest, Earth now has no way to heal him."
"I can see that," Gutrot placed his hand on the chair beside him, and with a strong push, sent it to Steve's presence. "Otherwise, it wouldn't have been delayed for so long."
Steve stopped the chair with his foot, then sat on it and was about to open his mouth again, but was interrupted by Gutrot once more.
"If you're going to ask about those clone soldiers, they've already been resolved," Gutrot picked up another drink from the side and threw it to Steve.
"As soon as I came back, I saw a dense mass of things had entered my home. I originally wanted to release toxic gas from the start, but luckily I noticed you, so I only released a kind of hypnotic gas."
So the pleasant smell we smelled at that time was this thing, Steve nodded in understanding.
"Later, I research the thing again and found that they are a kind of clone creature. So I mixed a kind of gas that targets this kind of creature, this gas can cause the gene of this kind of creature to collapse, as long as they touch a little, they will surely die."
"That's great!" Steve stood up excitedly after hearing Gutrot's words, but the words that the latter said casually made this human, who wouldn't even change his expression even if Mount Tai collapsed in front of him, couldn't help but tremble all over.
"Can you tell us its formula? We really need this thing! Please!"
"It seems like you guys have encountered a lot of trouble, Captain," Gutrot frowned and scratched his head. In fact, it's not just Hawkeye's body, he has checked the bodies of the other people as well, and they all have quite a few old wounds on them.
According to the degree of injury healing and the scar, the oldest injury should be Clint's eyes, it was an injury sustained about a year ago, at most no more than two years.
According to time calculation, it should be after he left, but the time of the parallel universe to be considered is not completely equivalent, so Gutrot doesn't dare to guarantee it.
"This business is a long story," Steve smiled sadly. Then, as if in exhaustion, he sat back down on the chair and began to slowly tell the story of what happened after they left.
