Chapter 529 Red Lantern Demon VS Supreme Squadron
The ground that was lifted shattered into pieces of rubble, scattering in all directions like a gale sweeping through.
Hyperion was already too preoccupied to worry about ordinary people. The enemy before him demanded his full attention, and the force from the fist made him click his tongue in surprise.
Hyperion wanted to disengage and create distance from the enemy. As he looked up, preparing to unleash atomic rays at Frank Castle, he realized his opponent seemed to have the same idea.
Except Hyperion's eyes widened, while Frank Castle opened his mouth.
"Urgh!" A viscous, scarlet flame, thick as blood, erupted from Frank Castle's mouth. Simultaneously, Hyperion's ray shot from his eyes. The two powerful energies collided in mid-air, causing a violent explosion.
The power of the explosion and the resulting gale forced Hyperion to sway, especially at such close distance. Caught off balance, Hyperion stumbled back a step.
But his opponent, Frank Castle, pressed forward instead of retreating, raising the alarmingly large battle axe and swinging it down at Hyperion.
"Clang!" The sound of metal clashing echoed. Hyperion, still unsteady, was driven straight to the ground by the sheer force of Frank Castle's downward strike. Hyperion finally understood why Frank Castle was unaffected by the earlier blast.
Frank Castle had braced himself, his feet anchored to the ground by a complex machine structure of red spectrum energy, like two ground stakes driven deep.
Being an Eternal, Hyperion's formidable defense power saved him. The axe, composed of rage energy, only managed to cut through Hyperion's battle suit, failing to penetrate his skin.
Seeing his attack ineffective, Frank Castle immediately changed tactics. The battle axe in his hands began to reconfigure, transforming into a chainsaw in an instant.
With a sharp pull of the starter cord and a deafening roar, the chainsaw sprang to life. The spinning chain relentlessly tore into Hyperion's body, sending sparks flying. From a distance, it looked like a scene from a horror movie.
Feeling his skin heat up and a constant pain spreading, Hyperion knew that if this continued, Frank Castle would indeed cut through his skin in this manner.
He was about to retaliate with atomic rays when Frank Castle moved even faster. He reached out his right hand towards Hyperion's head, and a red light enveloped Hyperion's head, instantly solidifying into a helmet with no air holes.
Having neutralized Hyperion's atomic rays, Frank Castle increased the chainsaw's speed. He needed to finish off the enemy before him quickly, or Old Dog Ross might escape to who-knows-where, making it difficult to find him again.
Just then, a bright ray shot out from a corner. Frank Castle, his eyes solely focused on Hyperion, was caught off guard and struck squarely in the back by this sneak attack, sending him flying.
Before Frank Castle could regain his balance in the air, a figure rushed in front of him, followed by a thunderous boom. Frank Castle was sent flying in another direction.
This time, no one stopped him. Frank Castle crashed heavily onto the ground, but his extensive combat experience kicked in. He used the momentum to roll several laps on the ground, dissipating some of the force and creating distance from his enemies, escaping the encirclement.
However, things were not as simple as he hoped. An afterimage of red and blue streaks capitalized on Frank Castle's momentary disorientation and was already upon him.
Faced with an enemy of such speed, Frank Castle was momentarily stunned. As mentioned before, Frank Castle, as a soldier, possessed considerable combat experience, but in the realm of superhuman combat, he was still a new recruit.
When faced with multiple enemies, each with unique abilities, Frank Castle suddenly felt overwhelmed.
In that brief moment of hesitation, the unseen enemy launched hundreds of attacks. While the damage from each attack was insignificant compared to Hyperion's, the sheer volume was enough to become a serious nuisance, even potentially overwhelming Frank Castle.
"Argh!" With a roar, the Red Lantern ring on his left hand blazed with scarlet light. A wave of red spectrum energy erupted from Frank Castle's body, forcing back the enemies that were relentlessly harassing him.
"That ability..." Whizzer, who had retreated to a safe distance in the blink of an eye, looked at Frank Castle with hesitation. "It's kind of like Doctor Spectrum's."
"Crack!" Tearing off the helmet, Hyperion, finally getting a chance to breathe thanks to his teammate's arrival, said, "I thought so too. Doctor Spectrum, what do you think?"
"It does resemble spectrum energy, but I can't affect the energy he's emitting," Doctor Spectrum said, flying to Hyperion's side. "Otherwise, I would have removed that helmet from your head earlier."
"It seems his ability is closely related to spectrum, but fundamentally different," Doctor Spectrum observed, glancing at the prism on his gloves, the source of his power.
"I noticed earlier, when he used his ability to push back Whizzer, the ring on his left hand glowed unusually bright. I suspect that ring is the source of his ability."
Perhaps due to the similarity of their abilities, Doctor Spectrum, though unable to decipher Frank Castle's power, immediately recognized his weakness.
Hyperion lowered his head, recalling the fight. He realized Doctor Spectrum was right. The ring on Frank Castle's hand had indeed emitted varying degrees of light whenever he used his abilities. He hadn't considered it before, but Doctor Spectrum's reminder suddenly made everything clear.
"Then the goal is obvious," Power Princess said, flexing her wrist as she joined the group. "We need to take off that red guy's ring."
"Leave it to me," Whizzer said, vanishing before his words even finished. He clearly intended to use his speed advantage to snatch Frank Castle's ring, hoping to end the battle quickly.
However, Frank Castle was well aware of his weakness. Before Whizzer could reach him, Frank Castle took flight. Whizzer, lacking flight ability, could only watch from the ground.
"Hey!" Whizzer exclaimed, widening his eyes. "That's not fair! Come down here if you dare!"
Frank Castle ignored the clownish antics. His gaze shifted to a more distant direction, towards the army's retreat. While he was entangled with Hyperion, the army had already moved far away.
The thought of his enemy escaping ignited an even more intense rage in Frank Castle's heart. The Red Lantern ring on his left hand blazed with an undeniable light, and the red glow covering his body erupted into raging flame!
"Clearly, he's become more difficult to deal with," Power Princess said, rolling her eyes. After years of fighting crime, she was used to this. But she wasn't worried at all.
Even if Frank Castle became more challenging, he couldn't possibly defeat all of them, could he? An opponent as powerful as that alien was a rare occurrence.
