Chapter 521: Intelligent Lifeform Locked On
Frank bent down and picked up the finger-thick thing that had fallen to the ground. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be something wrapped in plastic packaging.
Although he hadn't opened the package yet, Frank had already recognized what it was. This thing was an energy bar distributed by the army to soldiers.
Although military rations are also sold on the market, those are all gimmicky commodities, not real military rations. An energy bar like the one in front of him is not something ordinary people can obtain, let alone this mental patient in front of him.
Frank's hand holding the energy bar trembled uncontrollably. To prevent himself from crushing this only evidence, Frank could only place it on the table beside him.
Frank had never felt this emotion before. He felt his brain trembling, his chest felt like fire was burning, his lung was burning hot, and his limbs seemed to no longer obey his commands. Even the simple action of standing up was completed shakily.
"Why?" Frank placed his hand on the table, first asking calmly, then suddenly erupted and overturned the entire table onto the ground.
The bottles and cans on the table all fell to the ground. The murderer was already obvious; it was the troops he had once served.
Come to think of it, Frank, as an experiment of the top-secret plan, now that the plan had been exposed, the military couldn't possibly do nothing and just let it ferment naturally.
If they couldn't solve those experiments that had turned into monsters, then those family members of the military who knew some inside story would naturally be the primary target. Cleaning them up was natural. It was ridiculous that Frank still self-righteously wanted to live a good life with his family.
The military might have been thinking of silencing the family members of the experiments first, and then solving them who had turned into monsters. The reason for giving them, these grunts, houses might be to facilitate tracking their whereabouts.
But the military obviously hadn't expected that Frank would luckily transform back from a monster to a human and even rushed back home from New York non-stop. Unfortunately, it was all too late. When Frank returned, he only saw five cold corpses.
As for that mental patient, it was probably a scapegoat randomly found by the military. When the time came, they would ask the police to throw all the blame onto that mental patient, and the military could perfectly escape.
Thinking of this, Frank walked non-stop towards another house not far away. That was the home of another experiment. Frank's family had moved here with them. They had smiled and promised at the time that whether in the troops or as family, they would take care of each other.
As expected, Frank used the same method to climb into that person's home, only to see the corpses of that person's wife and mother. Perhaps because they were too close, the military didn't arrange a second mental patient, probably thinking that one scapegoat was enough, and more would arouse suspicion.
Frank understood that the family members of the remaining forty experiments were probably facing the same ending.
Frank kept his promise. He buried that person's wife and mother in the soil. Because it was already daytime, even if the town was deserted, there were people walking on the street at this time.
These people naturally noticed Frank. Facing Frank covered in fresh blood, they chose to call the police. There was no police station in the town, so they could only temporarily call police officers from the neighboring town.
Perhaps this was also one of the reasons why the military chose this place.
After Frank buried the corpses, the police also arrived. Seeing Frank's appearance at this time, two police officers immediately drew their sidearms and told Frank to drop the shovel in his hand.
Frank no longer believed in everything of this nation. He first dropped the shovel in his hand to attract the police officers' attention, and then drew the sidearm hidden in his belt. This gun was just found in the home of that experiment.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two gunshots in succession, Frank's precise shooting technology knocked off the sidearms in the police officers' hands. The police officers who lost their handguns immediately became like rabbits at a loss. One of the police officers wanted to pick up his sidearm but was threatened by Frank firing a warning shot.
"Don't want to die, then get back!"
Frank threatened coldly. The two police officers raised their hands and dared not move again. Seeing this, Frank raised his handgun and walked backwards into the house. He prepared to drive away and look for an opportunity for revenge.
"Bang!"
Just then, another gunshot. Frank only felt a sharp pain in his shoulder. He immediately understood that he had been shot. Not daring to delay, Frank ignored the two police officers and scrambled back into the house.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Several more gunshots. That person obviously didn't want to let Frank go, but Frank was fast and had already gotten into the house.
"Fuck!"
A curse. The two police officers looked in the direction of the sound, only to see a fully armed man getting out of a car parked on the side of the house. Just as they were about to ask who had come, the other party skillfully threw out credentials.
"Don't ask what you shouldn't ask. Now pick up your sidearms and kill that criminal with me." The man said, putting away his credentials, and then raised his handgun and walked towards the house.
Rank is everything. The two police officers could only admit they were unlucky, pick up their guns, and tiptoe behind the man.
William Rollins felt very unlucky. Being sent to perform this cleanup mission was already bad enough, but he didn't expect that when he thought it was completed and was about to drive away, something went wrong. Fortunately, he had been mindful when he saw the police car on the way back; otherwise, there might have been omissions.
'When I find that son of a bitch, I will definitely make him suffer,' William thought fiercely.
"Did something just fly into the house through the window?"
A police officer following William whispered to his partner.
"Don't be nosy." The partner glared at him and then continued to follow William silently.
…
Inside the house, Frank was hiding in the kitchen. Fortunately, the structure of these houses was similar. Frank could find the kitchen of this house based on his memory of his home.
Clutching his chest, Frank could only lament his bad luck. The other party had shot him twice in total, one shot hitting his right shoulder, and the other hitting his chest. Fresh blood was continuously flowing out of the small hole, just like a broken water pipe.
He was dying. This was Frank's first idea. He could feel his life rapidly draining away, but what followed was a bellyful of resentment.
Frank was unwilling. He didn't want to die like this. He still had many business unfinished. He hadn't made the mastermind pay the price, hadn't sought justice for the forty-two families, and hadn't avenged his family.
"Maria..." Frank mourned his deceased wife's life. The resentment in his heart then turned into a bellyful of anger.
"Crack!"
The sound of glass shattering, but it shouldn't be someone coming in through the window. It was estimated that only a pebble shattering glass could make such a small sound.
Frank tried hard to raise his head. He only saw a Red Lantern Power Ring flashing with a red light like blood floating in front of him.
"Intelligent Lifeform Locked On."
Who's speaking?
"Frank Castle from Earth, your heart is surging with raging rage, you belong to the Red Lantern Corps."
…
William shot open the lock with his gun and kicked open the gate. Just as he walked into the house, he only heard a passage of sound, like some kind of poetry.
"Scalding hot blood, crimson rage,
Taken from still-cold bones' cage.
Deep hatred boils, lungs engage,
To pave your path to hell's stage!"
