Chapter 391 Constantine
The Dead Rabbit, literally translated, should be "Dead Rabbit." It's usually used to describe something worthless, or to refer to Desperadoes. This naming style is indeed typical of a bar, and a bar is indeed the kind of place Constantine would frequent.
It's just that Constantine usually goes to mid-to-low-end bars, where he can use his unkempt, weathered appearance to score a one-night stand, regardless of gender.
But the bar in front of them was clearly a high-end bar, not just because of the doorman in a suit and leather shoes standing at the doorway, but also because of the melancholic blues music that spilled out when guests opened the door to enter or exit.
"Thank you for leading the way, Zatanna." Wonder Woman looked at the bar in front of them. They were hiding in the alley across from the bar to avoid causing chaos by a super hero appearing on the street.
"Your mission is complete. You should go home now."
"Hey, I just guided you here, and you're already trying to get rid of me?" Zatanna pouted, clearly unwilling to leave.
"Otherwise?" Yang Le said matter-of-factly. "You're a minor, aren't you? You can't get into a bar."
Zatanna blinked and snapped her fingers. Her appearance changed, making her look several years older.
"How's this?" Zatanna struck a pose. "This is what I believe I'll look like in five years."
Yang Le sized her up. Indeed, she didn't look much different from her adult version in comics, but that still didn't make her an adult.
"You've only changed your appearance. Physiologically, you're still a minor."
"Don't be so rigid." Zatanna rolled her eyes at Yang Le. Seeing that Yang Le was unmoved, she turned her attention to Wonder Woman.
"If it weren't for me, Constantine definitely wouldn't help you. Maybe I can put in a good word for you."
Wonder Woman considered it for a moment and agreed that Zatanna had a point. After all, she was an Amazon demigod, and many human concepts didn't apply to her. Diana was already an accomplished warrior at Zatanna's age.
"Wait a minute." Zatanna stopped Wonder Woman, who was about to step out of the alley, and sized her up and down.
"You can't go in dressed like that. It'll cause a huge commotion. Leave it to me; I'll handle it."
Zatanna waved her hand, and a magic wand appeared in it. With a flick of her wrist, a bracelet appeared in her hand. Aiming the magic wand at the bracelet, she whispered a few words and handed the bracelet to Wonder Woman.
"Since my magic can't directly affect you, I've cast an illusion on this bracelet. It will make you look less conspicuous to ordinary people."
"Thank you." Diana didn't waste words. She took the bracelet, put it on, and headed towards the bar without stopping.
Zatanna watched the decisive Wonder Woman, feeling a little helpless. She asked Yang Le beside her, "Is she always like this?"
Yang Le didn't directly answer Zatanna's question. Instead, he said, "If you'd been through what she has and could still be as composed as she is, I'd admire you."
After speaking, Yang Le caught up with Diana, leaving Zatanna standing in the original place, stunned. Seeing that she had been left behind, she hurriedly followed.
With Zatanna's magic, Yang Le and his group entered the Dead Rabbit bar without any hindrance. Just as Yang Le had expected, the bar interior was decorated elaborately and was very clean. It was clearly a place frequented by upper-class people, which was exactly the kind of place Constantine loathed.
Because of his childhood experiences, Constantine hated upper-class society people the most. So, a place like this must be like a toilet to Constantine. He would never stay longer than necessary. Coincidentally, Zatanna was probably the reason he was here.
As soon as they entered the bar, after taking in the bar's interior decorations, Yang Le immediately spotted Constantine. He stood out like a star in the night. Everyone else was dressed fashionably or elegantly, but he was unkempt. It was hard not to notice him.
Seeing their goal, Zatanna walked over to Constantine in a few quick steps and lightly patted his shoulder, asking, "Have you been waiting long?"
The drowsy Constantine was startled. His listless eyes immediately brightened when he saw who had suddenly approached him. The cigarette that had long gone out in the corner of his mouth fell out.
"Little Zat, it's really good to see you." Constantine turned to Zatanna, flashing his most enthusiastic smile. "I thought your dad would definitely not let you come."
"He didn't agree," Zatanna said, sitting down beside him. "But I always find a method to get out."
"That's definitely you." Constantine was as energetic as a young man in his twenties. "Your wisdom has always been directly proportional to your beauty."
"That's too cheesy," Zatanna said, but the corner of mouth that turned upwards betrayed her.
Constantine said it on purpose. Otherwise, with his slyness, he could definitely come up with more appropriate compliment. But that wouldn't work on Zatanna.
Zatanna was born into a proper magic family, a heiress, which fostered a somewhat arrogant heart in her. If you tried to be clever in front of her, she would definitely dislike it.
However, if Constantine, famous in the magical realm, occasionally played dumb to satisfy this young lady's competitiveness, it would definitely play a key role in closing the distance between them.
"Enough about that, Constantine. I have some business to ask for your help with."
After a brief greeting, Zatanna turned serious and said to Constantine.
"Oh? What business could make you, the young lady of the Zatara family, come to me for help? Don't worry, since you've asked, if I can do it, I definitely will."
Constantine picked up the wine glass that had been sitting in front of him for a long time. He had originally intended to look profound in front of Zatanna, but unfortunately, because Zatanna was late, he had almost fallen asleep and missed the opportunity to put on an act.
"It's not me asking for your help, but them." Zatanna gestured, and Yang Le and Wonder Woman, who had been waiting for a while, walked over.
"Cough, cough!"
The moment he saw Wonder Woman, Constantine almost spat out the wine in his corner of mouth. In his opinion, getting involved with her couldn't be anything good.
"I need your help, Constantine," Wonder Woman said directly to the coughing Constantine.
"Stop!" Constantine interrupted Wonder Woman. "You've got the wrong person. You're the famous demigod. What are you doing looking for a nobody smoker like me? Don't tell me you're going to do a good deed and help me fix my lung that's been smoking for decades."
"If you help me, I'll find a way to treat your lung," Wonder Woman said earnestly.
"That's not the problem, okay?" Constantine was a little exasperated.
