Chapter 376: Goodwill? Friends? Contacting the Body of the Abyss
June 20, 2025 | Author: Amnesty L
In the depths of the dilapidated and decaying palace.
All sorts of miscellaneous items were strewn about. Among them were precious alchemical materials imbued with magic power, as well as the dismembered bodies of low-tier undead, scattered carelessly.
A single glance was all it took.
It was the very image of a macabre place associated with the undead, filled with a terror that would make children cry.
*Thump, thump!*
*Roar!*
The sound of cages rattling and roars echoed in her ears!
Evileye, treading on the relatively smooth and clean stone slabs, stood before two enormous cages, each containing an even stronger undead individual.
Looking at these two undead, Evileye felt a heart-wrenching pain, but more than that was an unspeakable self-reproach.
"Crystal Dagger!"
Evileye’s voice was hoarse as she raised her arm and aimed forward.
*Swoosh!*
A translucent crystal dagger materialized in mid-air and shot toward the cage in front of her. However, just as it was about to make contact, the dagger abruptly stopped.
The crystal dagger froze in mid-air!
Evileye’s palm, facing forward, trembled slightly before she finally clenched it into a fist.
With a *crack*, the crystal dagger suspended before the cage shattered in mid-air, dissolving into fine powder.
Evileye took one last deep look at the two undead in their cages, then spun around and headed back outside the palace.
Upon returning to the surface, she looked at the vast number of undead wandering aimlessly and the empty sky.
"Great Dragon Lord," Evileye's voice was tinged with emotion, but she still spoke loudly and respectfully.
Not far away, atop a sturdy outer wall among the surviving ruins, Tang Zheng stood quietly, looking at her with great interest. "Oh? What is it?"
Evileye bit her lip and lowered her head. "Regarding the matter of the Holy Sanctuary, I... I actually do not know anything about it."
After saying this, Evileye waited in silence for the fury of the Great Dragon Lord. She had originally thought that with her power, she could escape even if she couldn't defeat him.
But the more contact she had, the more Evileye could sense his immense strength, not to mention the mysterious Body of the Abyss that had appeared.
This being had existed for over 400 years and might have information about the "Holy Sanctuary" the Great Dragon Lord mentioned. Therefore, she had to make a move before Cassius Habakkuk returned.
At the same time, Evileye, being an undead herself, realized she would likely have to act as the Great Dragon Lord’s proxy in contacting the Body of the Abyss.
She still had value. Even if she angered the Great Dragon Lord, he wouldn't act against her immediately.
"I am aware."
A faint voice drifted down from mid-air.
Evileye froze, looking up in astonishment toward the source of the voice, though she could see nothing.
"I can see through the essence of things, Evileye."
Tang Zheng spoke calmly, "Just like your identity is not that of an ordinary noble from this ruined country."
The air grew still.
"Deception is meaningless."
"Your identity, your false name—they are the same. From the very beginning, what I have valued is your own worth."
Tang Zheng’s majestic voice vibrated the air, creating a low hum.
"As one who has stepped into the domain of a demon god, you possess the right to speak with me as an equal. I can forgive your hopeful deceit, born from a desire to save your companions."
"This is my goodwill, Evileye!"
The response was completely unexpected.
Evileye had never imagined that not only would she not face the Great Dragon Lord's wrath, but she would receive such an answer instead.
Recalling her experiences over this period, the Great Dragon Lord truly held no hostility toward her. On the contrary, she was the one who had been constantly on guard and full of petty schemes.
A sense of shame rose in Evileye's heart. For the proud dragon race, such deceit was clearly beneath them.
"I praise your heart, as vast as surging flames."
Evileye bowed deeply to the empty air before her.
A smile touched Tang Zheng’s lips. His words had not been wasted. He knew that Evileye held a considerable degree of wariness and vigilance toward him.
It couldn't be helped; he was, after all, currently in the disguise of a Dragon Lord.
"My true name is Keno Fasris Invern, the princess of this fallen Imperia Kingdom before you..."
Evileye straightened up, her tone mournful and sorrowful as she recounted everything that had happened. As she finished, her voice grew agitated.
"Great Dragon Lord, can everyone really be saved?!"
She had long since given up hope.
It wasn't until she met this Dragon Lord and returned to the homeland of this kingdom that the hope hidden deep within her heart began to sprout anew.
But…
Evileye was no longer the weak person she once was. Having lived through what for a human is a long time and accumulated much knowledge, she knew all too well.
No matter how hard she tried, faced with a reality she couldn't comprehend, her power was simply not enough to save everyone.
And now... at least... at least she finally knew that the power that had turned everyone into this state was something called Wild Magic.
Evileye looked forward, a certain will flickering in the red pupils behind her mask. It was not "expectation," but a kind of "resolve."
Regarding this question, Tang Zheng had previously given the answer "I do not know." Now that they were in the Imperia Kingdom and she had seen these undead with her own eyes, Evileye clearly wanted a more definite answer from him.
"Keno... I'm more used to calling you Evileye."
"Among the Fifth-Tier spells of the divine magic system, there is a spell called Raise Dead."
Tang Zheng spoke softly and calmly. "In fact, in the higher tiers, there exists resurrection magic of equal power."
"Such as the Seventh-Tier's Resurrection, and the Ninth-Tier's True Resurrection."
Tang Zheng didn't mind sharing this knowledge, which was inaccessible to the people of this otherworld. It could also indirectly demonstrate his own power.
It would give Evileye the impression that he possessed a vast amount of knowledge unknown to ordinary people.
"There's... even higher-tier resurrection magic!"
Evileye's voice trembled, finding this level of information incredible. She then quickly thought of something and said excitedly, "Great Dragon Lord, do you mean we can use higher-tier magic to resurrect everyone?"
Ninth-Tier!
Just hearing those words made Evileye's head spin.
"No!"
Tang Zheng denied it with great certainty. "Based on my understanding, even Ninth-Tier resurrection magic would still be unable to accomplish it."
He didn't give Evileye a precise answer, but he did indirectly state that it was almost impossible.
Evileye lifted her head slightly, feeling no disappointment. Perhaps she had already accepted such an outcome long ago.
"Thank you, Great Dragon Lord."
Evileye's shoulders slumped a little, her red pupils faintly shimmering.
