Chapter 478
chapter 358 part 2
Chief Justice Gureido lifted his loose sleeve, and his withered hand, holding the parchment scroll, placed it on a small wooden shelf next to the door used for sundries.
"This is an ancient map. Although its contents are not accurate, it makes for a fine gift as a collectible."
Chief Justice Gureido smiled amiably. After setting down the gift, without waiting for Tang Zheng to speak, he had already turned and left down the corridor.
Once his figure disappeared down the corridor, the cold, wary look on Tang Zheng's face vanished, replaced by a blank expression as he looked at the scroll on the wooden shelf.
There was indeed no fluctuation of magic power. It had to be an ordinary parchment scroll.
However.
"First-Tier, Summon Angel!" Tang Zheng activated the magic.
A flash of white light.
An ordinary angel appeared and picked up the parchment scroll from the wooden shelf.
*Click!*
He shut the door.
Tang Zheng turned and walked back to the living room. The ordinary angel holding the parchment scroll followed him in, hovering in mid-air.
"Open the scroll."
The command was given.
The ordinary angel reached out and unrolled the parchment. It was rather large when unfurled, which made the parchment scroll look even more ancient.
Seeing that nothing happened, Tang Zheng had the ordinary angel hand him the scroll while simultaneously dismissing the summon.
The ancient parchment scroll was spread flat on the table. A peculiar map was drawn on it, with no markings for mountains or terrain.
There was a simple outline that looked as if it had been drawn casually, not conforming to the structure of a proper map at all.
However, in the upper-left corner of this simple map, a single small area had been specially marked.
"This map is... an Otherworld map?"
Tang Zheng's pupils contracted slightly, a look of stunned disbelief on his face.
If anyone else saw this map, they would probably think it was just a simple drawing, or they would try to compare its general outline with the maps of the various Human nations.
But upon seeing the specially marked northwest corner, Tang Zheng instantly realized that this map didn't depict any of the current Human nations or the regions they inhabited, but the outline of the entire Otherworld.
A lone northwest corner, which, compared to the entire map, occupied only a tiny fraction of it.
Unfortunately.
This map was just a simple outline, more like a doodle sketched casually while listening to someone's description. It had very little reference value.
"The Chief Justice..."
Tang Zheng's eyes flickered, the doubt in his heart deepening. Speaking of which, he had been somewhat puzzled from the very beginning.
Why would the Theocracy send a Chief Justice to welcome them?
"Justice, infants..."
"This is getting more and more interesting. Could Zesshi Zetsumei's appearance have been his handiwork?"
With a thought, Tang Zheng's vision quickly switched to a Mourning Sparrow outside the guesthouse.
Late at night.
10:55 PM.
Chief Justice Gureido walked along the wide street, his body slightly hunched. The light from the Perpetual Lamps on both sides of the main street constantly stretched and shortened his shadow, changing its direction.
*Swoosh!*
A nearly imperceptible sound vibrated faintly high above.
A Mourning Sparrow gently flapped its wings, gliding high in the sky. It moved without a sound, a pair of jet-black eyes fixed on Chief Justice Gureido below.
At this hour, even in the Theocracy's Divine Capital, there were few figures on the streets. Although there was no legal curfew, because of their doctrine, very few people would be strolling around at this time.
Only the patrol teams, upon passing, would bow respectfully to Chief Justice Gureido.
*DONG!*
The toll of an ancient bell from within the church echoed in the sky.
Hands behind his back, Chief Justice Gureido finally stopped beneath the oldest building of the Church—the same place where he had welcomed Tang Zheng and the delegation from the Holy Kingdom.
The moonlight pierced through the thin clouds. A chilling light scattered down, catching the bell tower atop the ancient church and reflecting a faint, cold white gleam.
"Thank God."
Chief Justice Gureido stood at the bottom of the steps. After a moment of silence, he suddenly spoke with piety.
At some unknown time, two figures suddenly appeared behind Chief Justice Gureido.
"That child's appearance was your doing, wasn't it?" a cold voice spoke. "Do you have any idea that you've disrupted our original plans?"
"You of all people should know how important that child is. Any leak of information could lead to unforeseeable consequences, even the destruction of the entire Theocracy."
The voice was filled with reprimand and anger.
Chief Justice Gureido didn't turn around. He placed his hands piously on his chest and prayed quietly, as if he hadn't heard a thing.
The corner of Earth God Cardinal Raymond's eye twitched, and he was about to speak again.
The Water God Cardinal Sinedine shook his head, motioning for him to stop. He quietly clasped his hands behind his back and also looked at the ancient church before them.
Time passed bit by bit.
The prayer ended.
Only then did Chief Justice Gureido lower his hands from his chest and turn to face the two Cardinals behind him, whose positions were higher than his.
"Lord Raymond's temper is as explosive as ever," Chief Justice Gureido said faintly. After speaking, he gave a respectful bow to the Water God Cardinal Sinedine beside him.
Clearly, compared to the Earth God Cardinal Raymond, Chief Justice Gureido was more respectful toward the Water God Cardinal Sinedine.
"That child has a mind of her own."
"I am not qualified to offer any guidance," Chief Justice Gureido replied to the earlier accusation.
The Earth God Cardinal Raymond frowned deeply. He didn't believe the man's words. Besides, Gureido was acting strangely today.
"Is this your choice..."
The Water God Cardinal Sinedine's sallow cheeks tightened slightly as he spoke in a complicated tone.
Chief Justice Gureido just smiled without responding, asking instead, "What do you plan to do next? Use that divine relic?"
The two Cardinals naturally knew what he was asking about.
"Hmph!" the Earth God Cardinal Raymond snorted coldly. "There are some things you are not yet qualified to know."
"We will not."
The Water God Cardinal Sinedine shook his head. "That divine relic is being prepared to deal with the Catastrophe Dragon Lord, who will break his seal in a few years."
"Once used, it can only control one person. The control over the previous person will be automatically released."
"I see," Chief Justice Gureido nodded in understanding.
"Your Excellency Sinedine!" The Earth God Cardinal Raymond was stunned. This was one of the Theocracy's highest secrets.
Unless one reached the level of a Cardinal, no one was qualified to know this. The Water God Cardinal Sinedine shouldn't have made such a mistake.
"Haha."
"Your Excellency Sinedine, do you think I am worthy of receiving the highest blessing of 'Gimuowa'?" Chief Justice Gureido chuckled lightly.
