Chapter 72

Chapter 72: Magic Detection, Platinum Coins

After about half a minute.

The brown-haired woman who had left returned, accompanied by a middle-aged man who looked like an appraiser. He was dressed in a black formal suit, a pocket watch hung from his chest, and he wore a monocle.

The middle-aged man’s expression turned serious after a single glance at the bone chain on the package.

"This way, esteemed sir."

The middle-aged man spoke respectfully to Tang Zheng, extending a hand in an inviting gesture toward another area of the counter.

Tang Zheng nodded lightly, picked up the package, and followed the middle-aged man to the back.

As Tang Zheng left, many of the adventurers in the main hall burst into an uproar. What had only been speculation before was now confirmed—those two black chains were indeed bone chains from an Evil Spirit Hound.

"That lesser soulhound following him must have just been born, right?"

"Once it's raised, it'll become a monster with a difficulty of 45 when it grows up!"

"Evil Spirit Hounds are cunning and extremely dangerous monsters. Even if you raise one, there's a high probability it will bite its master to death the moment it's strong enough to resist."

"For that black-haired kid to dare tame such a monster, he might be a Magic Beast Summoner."

"I think he's more like a Beast Tamer."

All sorts of discussions erupted in the main hall. Clearly, discussing a powerful individual was more exciting than talking about the events in the Touv Great Forest.

Some adventurers in the crowd remained silent, lost in thought, but it was clear that most people's first impression of Tang Zheng, who had appeared so suddenly, was that he was someone not to be trifled with.

If Tang Zheng, who had just left, could hear their discussion, a satisfied smile would have surely appeared on his face.

What is a disguise?

A disguise is meant to make your opponent misjudge your information. The very existence of the lesser soulhound was, in itself, a deceptive act.

And the information revealed after peeling back this layer of deception would be all the more convincing.

Inside a simply decorated and very quiet room.

Tang Zheng placed the package on the table, then sat on the sofa, quietly waiting for the middle-aged man's appraisal.

"Please, enjoy your tea. This will just take a moment."

The middle-aged man brought over a cup of black tea, placed it respectfully in front of Tang Zheng, and then spoke.

"Please, go ahead," Tang Zheng nodded.

Only then did the middle-aged man sit on the sofa opposite him. Wearing a pair of clean white gloves, he gently picked up the bone chain to inspect it.

"Both its luster and hardness are of exceptionally high quality."

"It is the bone chain of an adult Evil Spirit Hound."

The middle-aged man gently caressed the bone chain, his eyes shining. He then found one end of the chain, and upon seeing the break, his movements paused.

"The break is a bit rough, but it's not a major issue. A little time spent polishing it would fix that."

Then.

The middle-aged man gently set the chain down, raised his hands toward the bone chain, and intoned in a low voice, "Magic Detection!"

A faint blue magical light flashed from the middle-aged man's palms.

*Bzz—*

*Detected Second-Tier Magic: "Magic Detection." Level requirement: 8-14. Current conditions met.*

*Consume 1 Skill Point to learn?*

Seeing the message flash across his status panel, Tang Zheng was slightly stunned. He glanced at the middle-aged man opposite him with some surprise, not expecting him to be a magic caster.

"No," he thought to himself.

The spell "Magic Detection" was relatively weak among detection-type spells. It could only perform a simple appraisal of an item's magical power or determine if an opponent possessed a magic item containing such power.

It had little practical use in combat.

A moment later.

The middle-aged man canceled the spell, a look of regret on his face.

"After an Evil Spirit Hound dies, a portion of the magic power contained within its bone chain dissipates. The loss is especially severe during the process of severing the chain."

"That's why a special method is required. However, your pair of bone chains is still quite well-preserved. The price will just be slightly lower as a result."

The middle-aged man looked up at Tang Zheng and explained respectfully and earnestly.

"Can I sell them quickly?"

Hearing the man's answer, Tang Zheng felt a bit of regret as well.

"Of course."

The middle-aged man nodded hastily. "This is a high-quality magical material. With a little processing, it can be made into a magic weapon."

"If you are not in a hurry, sir, we can find a buyer who most needs this pair of bone chains within three days and sell it for the highest price."

"Of course, we would take a ten percent fee."

"If you want to sell it immediately, we can purchase it directly, but the price will be a bit lower. Naturally, there would be no commission fee."

Both options had their pros and cons.

Tang Zheng thought for a moment. "How much will you give me for them?"

"360 gold coins for one, for a total of 720 gold coins for the two bone chains," the middle-aged man straightened his back and replied immediately.

Tang Zheng's eyes flickered. This price had actually exceeded his expectations.

However, considering the value of magic items in this world, it was actually quite normal.

Seeing Tang Zheng agree, a clear smile appeared on the middle-aged man's face. He immediately stood up and left, returning in about two to three minutes.

When the middle-aged man returned, he was holding two coin pouches. One was noticeably bulging, while the other was much flatter.

"720 gold coins. Since that would be inconvenient to carry, I took the liberty of exchanging them into platinum coins for you."

The middle-aged man placed the two coin pouches on the table, pushed them toward Tang Zheng, and said softly, "Here are 34 platinum coins, and here are 40 gold coins."

Platinum coins?

Tang Zheng frowned slightly upon hearing the name. He had heard of them but had never seen one before.

Besides, 34 platinum coins and 40 gold coins... that exchange rate seemed off.

The lesser soulhound seemed to sense the change in Tang Zheng's mood, baring its sharp teeth as it stared at the middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man's face paled, and he quickly explained, "The exchange rate for platinum coins is different from the kingdom's... to be precise, it's different from the gold, silver, and copper coin exchange rates of other countries."

"Twenty gold coins can be exchanged for one platinum coin. In some smaller countries, the exchange rate for platinum coins is even higher."

"Furthermore, platinum coins are given higher priority in all countries. Of course, if you would prefer gold coins, sir, I can exchange them back for you right away."

The middle-aged man's tone held a hint of panic. He leaned back, looking fearfully at the lesser soulhound, afraid it would pounce on him at any moment.

Platinum coins, huh.

After hearing the middle-aged man's explanation, Tang Zheng didn't speak immediately. Instead, he reached into the coin pouch and took out a platinum coin.

Its color was similar to a silver coin, but it was noticeably heavier and thicker than a gold coin.

Suddenly!

Tang Zheng's eyes narrowed. On the back of the platinum coin, he saw that the engraving wasn't the national emblem of the Re-Estize Kingdom, but the image of a dragon's head.

A dragon!

A glint flashed in Tang Zheng's eyes.

The dragons of this world were all extraordinary beings.

Platinum coins?

The Platinum Dragon Lord?
