Chapter 56
Chapter 56: The Craftsmanship of Recovery Potions, Three Possibilities
2024-11-18 Author: Amnesty L
It was not until dusk.
Tang Zheng had used up seven stalks of Heat Grass before the color of the alchemy solution finally stabilized into a woody-yellow liquid.
He tested its effect on a wound and found the recovery rate far exceeded what could be achieved by simply covering the wound with medicinal powder.
Seeing this outcome, Tang Zheng's face showed no sign of happiness; instead, he frowned slightly.
After a moment of thought.
He completely drained his just-recovered and already meager mana, casting *Item Appraisal* on the alchemy solution he had created.
*Vmmm—*
Item: Inferior Alchemy Solution
Effect: A solution made using the Herb "Heat Grass" that has styptic and disinfectant properties. When consumed, it has the minor effect of restoring 1 Health Point.
(Cannot be stored for long periods. The effect will be completely lost within one hour.)
...
Looking at the information from *Item Appraisal*, Tang Zheng's frown deepened.
*Despite being a higher-Level Alchemist and Potion Master than Nfirea Bale, the potion I made can only be described as 'inferior'?*
Tang Zheng had originally obtained the Potion Master Job from Nfirea Bale precisely because he wanted to create his own potions to increase his sustainability in combat.
But now, it seemed he had been too naive.
He knew too little about Herbs—the medicinal properties of different Herbs, whether they could be combined, the proper dosage, and so on, were all problems.
Mastering this knowledge alone would take time; it wasn't something he could just conjure up by activating a Skill, as he had imagined.
And time was what he lacked most right now.
The alchemy solution he had just created was merely a clever trick to fully draw out the medicinal effects of a Herb.
It couldn't even be considered a Low-Tier Potion!
Potions in the Otherworld and potions in the game YGGDRASIL were, in fact, two completely different things.
According to their respective manufacturing processes, potions could be divided into three major categories based on their ingredients.
① Potions made from Herbs!
② Potions made using both Herbs and Magic!
③ Potions made using only Magic.
The first manufacturing process was the most common in the Otherworld. These potions were very cheap, making them a very cost-effective means of healing for commoners and low-Level adventurers.
The second manufacturing process produced potions with superior effects that could be used by adventurers in combat, so they were naturally more expensive.
As for the third type, it did not exist in the Otherworld!
In fact, the second and third methods were the common ways of making potions in YGGDRASIL.
But for the second process, the Potion Masters of the Otherworld had already carved out a path completely different from the one in the game.
Since the Healing Potions from YGGDRASIL—the so-called "God's Blood"—existed in the Otherworld, the Bone King had once speculated on the reasons why Potion Masters were unable to create them.
There were no more than three possibilities.
① The knowledge passed down by the Players who arrived in the Otherworld, including the manufacturing process, was lost.
② Potion Masters like Nfirea Bale were simply unaware of it, and this technology existed in other countries or more distant nations.
③ The Healing Potions from YGGDRASIL could only be made using Materials from YGGDRASIL.
And since the Otherworld obviously lacked the Materials from the game, the method for creating "God's Blood" was naturally lost as well.
Of these three possibilities, Tang Zheng clearly leaned towards the third.
He even suspected that Nfirea Bale's future ability to create the Red Potion might be due to using Materials provided by the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
Perhaps, through Nfirea Bale's research, the amount of Materials consumed was simply reduced.
Otherwise, it was simply too incredible that Nfirea Bale could, in less than a year, completely surpass the method for creating the Red Potion that had taken the entire Slane Theocracy two to three hundred years and great cost to develop.
Coming back to his senses.
He had no time, no one to teach him knowledge about potions and Herbs, and he couldn't acquire the relevant Skills for a Job simply by raising its Job Level like in the game.
Even if there really was a magic that could conjure a potion with a simple rub of the hands, he had no way to learn it.
"It seems now," he sighed helplessly, "the idea of making my own potions to strengthen my foundation was a bit unrealistic."
As for the Alchemist Job?
He had learned from Nfirea Bale that in the view of most Potion Masters, Alchemy was seen as nothing more than a support Job for crafting Healing Potions.
In reality, in YGGDRASIL, among the many Life Professions, the Alchemist held a much broader position than the Potion Master.
When paired with Jobs like Artisan, Puppeteer, Forger, Golem Crafter, and others, it could produce powerful Job effects.
Higher-Tier Professions like "Alchemy Master" and "Artificer" could even allow Alchemy to exhibit combat power far exceeding other Production Professions!
Unfortunately, Tang Zheng couldn't possibly waste his limited leeway to learn an Alchemist's Higher-Tier Profession or its compatible Jobs.
Without the specialization bonus from a Higher-Tier Profession, learning only the basic version of a Life Profession held little meaning in the game.
In that case, did that mean the Alchemist Job, like the Potion Master Job, was useless to him?
Hmm~
Tang Zheng lowered his head in thought.
*You can't apply the game's situation entirely to reality, and vice versa.*
*The purpose of Alchemy is to create alchemy solutions. The effects are simpler and more direct. Perhaps it doesn't necessarily have to be an auxiliary craft for making potions,* he mused.
For instance, he could temporarily create alchemy solutions with various effects.
The only drawback was that alchemy solutions were not easy to preserve; they would degrade rapidly over time and lose their effect.
That, however, wasn't much of a problem.
Grandma Lijie possessed a magic called *Preservation*, which could maintain medicinal effects for a whole year.
After all, all potions created in the Otherworld suffered from degradation, where their effects gradually diminished over time.
Mastering the *Preservation* magic was extremely important for the Potion Masters of the Otherworld.
With this idea in mind, Tang Zheng's mood improved considerably. He looked up at the darkening sky and decided to make camp right there on the bank of the small river.
Nearby, Big Goblin Mokuguo lay obediently on the ground. Only the occasional fearful and reverent glances he cautiously stole at Tang Zheng's movements proved that he was still alive.
During this period of observation, Big Goblin Mokuguo had witnessed too many incredible things from Tang Zheng, such as how, with a casual wave of his hand, all the goblin corpses on the ground would simply vanish.
