Chapter 45: A Mutated Goblin? The Prepared Trap

He continued along his usual route. Aside from the normal bird calls, there was little noise from ordinary beasts in the forest.
"It's a bit quiet."
Tang Zheng lowered the waterskin from his lips, hung it back on his waist, and listened intently to his surroundings.
His expression remained unchanged as he moved forward.
Since he was certain he was being watched, he naturally needed to be more vigilant.
Hmm?
Tang Zheng's ear suddenly twitched. There was a sound!
*That direction is... northwest?*
Tang Zheng seemed thoughtful, but his feet never stopped moving. He turned and approached the direction the sound came from.
As he drew closer, the sounds grew clearer. They were the roars of a beast, mixed with the shouts of goblins.
Soon, a large number of goblins appeared in his field of vision.
He swept his gaze over them.
There were over twenty goblins!
At this moment, these twenty-plus goblins were besieging a massive black bear.
"Roar!"
The black bear opened its great, bloody maw, roaring as it tore into a goblin.
The gory scene didn't scare the numerous goblins away; instead, it seemed to incite their ferocity.
They shrieked wildly, relentlessly smashing the black bear with their crudely made weapons and even stones.
Only after suffering casualties of nearly half their number did the blood-soaked black bear finally collapse!
The remaining goblins shouted excitedly as they lifted the black bear and headed deeper into the jungle.
The goblin corpses left on the ground were casually dragged along by the others as they returned.
The dead goblins, who had just been companions in the hunt, were now nothing more than food in the eyes of the living.
Tang Zheng stood behind a large tree, arms crossed, watching the group of goblins gradually depart. A cold smirk touched the corner of his mouth.
The direction the goblins were headed clearly contained one of their encampments.
"So this is the trap they've been preparing for several days?"
"And it's the same kind of trap?" Tang Zheng's eye twitched.
He now understood perfectly. The previous ambush by six ogres had clearly been a result of him being inadvertently led into a trap.
And now they were using the same method again.
Tang Zheng felt he might have overestimated the intelligence of that mutated goblin.
However, a special goblin that could influence ogres greatly intrigued him.
"I still haven't figured it out. It's certainly cautious."
"If I don't make it let its guard down completely, it probably won't expose itself," Tang Zheng murmured, raising his head slightly before following after the group of goblins.
As he went deeper, a somewhat dilapidated Goblin Encampment appeared ahead, just as he expected.
Tang Zheng's focus, however, was not on the encampment itself, but on the terrain of the area.
The ground on both sides was noticeably higher, causing the trees there to be significantly taller than those in the surrounding areas.
The two protruding small hillocks created a narrow path, like a concave gourd, with the Goblin Encampment situated inside.
"They chose a good spot."
"Leading me into terrain like this... once I'm surrounded, escaping won't be as easy as last time."
"No... that's not entirely right."
Tang Zheng pretended to be completely unaware and continued forward expressionlessly. "With the intelligence of ordinary goblins, they clearly couldn't coordinate something as complex as this 'performance'."
"Are they planning to sacrifice this entire Goblin Encampment? How ruthless."
Tang Zheng's gaze turned cold, and he let out a low, chilling laugh.
"Speaking of which, I still haven't fully adapted to this world. It's not just humans who possess intelligence."
"The intelligence of some demi-humans is on par with humans. Treating them as mindless creatures will inevitably lead to suffering."
"My mindset needs to shift. I still subconsciously forget that in this world, humans are actually a disadvantaged group."
Tang Zheng lightly shook his head, muttering to himself.
Ever since entering the Touv Great Forest, he had been traveling consistently eastward.
Once his general direction was known, it would be easy to set up something on the path behind him. This was a point he hadn't considered at first.
Of course, a larger reason was that the jungle environment was too complex, and it was best to stick to a fixed direction to avoid getting lost.
Behind him!
The figure that had been trailing far behind Tang Zheng cautiously poked its head out from a thicket.
Watching Tang Zheng walk into the narrow jungle path, the creature let out a slow sigh of relief, its nervous and timid green face relaxing.
That human was too strong.
A powerful ogre, in his hands, was cleaved in two with a single strike. It had never witnessed such strength before.
It wasn't that it hadn't seen humans fight ogres, but it usually took several humans working together to kill a single powerful ogre.
"Damn human!"
"To kill so many of my children and dare to enter the great forest alone... I'll absolutely make you join them in death!"
The green figure crouched on the ground, muttering as it clenched its fists, its voice sharp with anger and resentment.
If Tang Zheng had heard this goblin speak, he would have been utterly astonished.
Under this goblin's gaze, Tang Zheng completely entered the narrow jungle path. A light of excitement and bloodlust immediately emerged in its tiny, black pupils.
Its timidity receded.
The goblin relaxed completely, stood up, and followed him.
It had to watch this human die at the hands of numerous ogres.
His flesh must be delicious.
The goblin thought of the food with the uniquely sweet aroma that the human ate every morning, and it couldn't help but lick the drool from the corner of its mouth.
On the other side.
Tang Zheng advanced at a leisurely pace. When he was about halfway through the narrow jungle path, he suddenly stopped.
Since it had been secretly following him all this time, now that it saw him enter the prepared trap, it must have relaxed its guard.
*Then—*
Without the slightest hesitation, Tang Zheng spun around and broke into a sprint.
This time, he paid no mind to the commotion he would cause. He spun around and sprinted back the way he came, his gaze fixed on the jungle behind him.
At the same time, Tang Zheng suddenly roared, "I see you!"
